I love that the husband is able to express himself gently and has so much emotional awareness, but also has a backbone of his own. And I admire the wife and her honestly and bravery. It would have been "easier" to go along to get along.
Gawd I empathize with her so much. Leaving a fundamentalist religion will break you down to the most raw and basic components of who you are. It's one of the most painful things you can experience mentally and emotionally. The beautiful thing is that once you rebuild and find yourself on the other side, there is no going back. Your life, your actual life can begin and it will be bigger and more beautiful than you could have ever imagined.

No, actually, she's one of the most oblivious, self involved people I've ever personally witnessed! She was adamant she didn't feel any remorse for the immense pain that had been caused to him when she cheated on him, she felt no regret for her infidelity. She quite literally said she was proud of herself for betraying him because she "freed" him from the close minded, monogamous model of love. Even though he didn't WANT to be "freed", didn't ASK to be "freed", and was devastated by her betrayal. Neither his pain or desire to be committed mattered, only her beliefs were valid. She fully believed she was entitled to betray him and destroy his life as he knew it, in order to "enlighten" him, she gave herself that right. She was annoyed he wasn't grateful to her for the gift she had given him....the gift of having an affair behind his back. She's had some truly strong narcissistic traits and was REALLY hard to watch!

You try to move forward in life, however, you’re still living the life you created while you traumatized and/or addicted.
As an ex Jehovah's Witness this is so accurate. Married very young . Never questioning. My husband left 1st. But it took me much longer. Now it makes me so angry to think of lost time. Honestly I think this couple have a really good chance. They are brave and honest❤
As a Protestant Christian (non-denominational/Baptist) who is now in OCIA for the Catholic Church, I wonder if ex-Jehovah's Witnesses or ex-Mormons ever consider transitioning to other denominations of the faith or do they leave the faith altogether? While we all believe in Jesus, certain denominations portray Christianity in different ways and teach different doctrines, that in my opinion, may even be harmful to those who believe it, since it affects their worldview and their view of God and the church, and could be based on a twisted interpretation of scripture that doesn't align with the truth of the Gospel. It's cool to study Church history to see what the early-century Christians believed before all of these different denominations were created. I also believe it's what led me (along with many other factors) to the Catholic Church. God Bless ❤.

It’s tricky since, like they mention, both of their families have been generationally Mormon, which makes me think their social circle is probably all Mormon. And like he says, he wants to make a decision because he wants to, not just for her. He probably wants to be genuine, form his own thoughts, and imagine what leaving the religion would look like for him. That’s much more rational than doing something to do it.
