  • How the Navy gets supplies at sea (5/8) [PUMADET VERTREP w/navy carrier] @blaharski
MSC provides fleet support to the US and allies (e.g. England, Japan). They deliver/recieve via underway replenishment (UNREP) and vertical replenishment (VERTREP).
An UNREP is when a ship, or multiple ships, pull alongside and we send them material via a span wire and or fuel hose. We can do this simultaneously on both port and starboard sides with numerous stations working at once on both sides. This can be done in conjunction with VERTREPs all at the same time (see the videos). Meaning, we can be hooked up and delivering on multiple stations, on both sides of the ship, while also doing VERTREPs with multiple other ships in the area all at once.
A VERTREP is when a ship receives its material via helicopter. We will put cargo on pallets, wrap in netting, then use a specially designed grabbing/hooking tool that we manually attach to the bottom of a hovering helicopter. Once attached that helo goes to another ship to drop off the cargo. (See video)
