    I’m going to go with this. 1/3 price of the borla touring I was looking at and sounds just as good. Even if it didn’t its still so much better than stock.

      That’s basically why I bought this kit as well. If money was no object, I would buy the AWE kit, but it’s literally 3x more than the Rough Country kit and, for $600, my truck sounds great.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  3 дня назад

      This video shows me taking off the factory Silverado exhaust and replacing it with the Rough Country exhaust kit. The sound comparison segment shows which exhaust is which.

  • @champzman19
    @champzman19 10 месяцев назад +2

    You can get the exhaust out in one piece but you have to drop the spare tire and jack the back of your truck up as high as you can so it creates the biggest gap between the frame and axle.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  10 месяцев назад +1

      I didn’t even think about dropping the spare tire. That’s a good idea. Cutting it up wasn’t a big deal, the exhaust just ended up going to the metal yard anyway, but would have been nice to if I could have gotten it out in one piece and maybe sold it to someone who wanted to do a single exit to dual exit conversion or something.

    Will it fit a 2.7L turbocharged Gmc sierra 1500 elevation

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Год назад

      This exhaust kit is only for 5.3L or 6.2L engines with factory rear exit exhaust. Rough Country doesn’t appear to have an exhaust kit for the 2.7L at this time.
      You may have to look somewhere like Flowmaster or Borla.

    It sounds amazing. Thank you for the video, i have a single exhaust system and planing on installing this system anyway you can give me the measurements of the oem exhaust exits so I can cut my bumper

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  2 года назад +2

      I’m glad you like the video and the sound of the exhaust!
      As for cutout measurements, just note that getting perfectly accurate measurements is not simple since there are no straight/sharp edges to go off of on a bumper. Edges of a bumper are rolled around so figuring out how to line up a tape measure with rolled edges is a little complicated (at least for someone like me who is not a professional). The sides of the cutouts are also slanted so the top of the cutout is not as wide as the bottom. I did attempt to get measurements for you, but please be aware that these are just the best approximations I could get using a tape measure to try and get the size of the cutouts. You may want to see if you can find a bumper with the cutouts already in it (either new or used depending on prices you are able to find).
      1: Inside edge of the cutouts is ~17 1/2” from the center of the bumper.
      2: the cutouts are ~9” wide at the bottom
      3: the cutouts are ~6 1/2” wide at the top
      4: the cutouts are ~3” tall from the bottom of the bumper where it is rolled under.
      Again, these measurements are likely not 100% accurate. I’m just trying to help as best I can. My recommendation would be to look into buying a bumper with the cutouts already in it if you want to add the dual / quad exhaust look.

    If you had to couldnt you just put a clamp on the old exhaust that u cut if you did have to use it?

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Месяц назад

      I guess “technically” if you had a wide enough and strong enough clamp, you “could”. But when you are connecting exhaust pipes together you want one pipe to slide over the end of the pipe that it is connecting to and then clamp that down to seal up both pipes and hold them together.
      When cutting pipe, you don’t have one end that will slide over the other because both ends of the pipe that you cut are the same size. That means the connection point will not only be weak even with an extra wide clamp, but will also be a point where you will likely have an exhaust leak.

  • @DK-lw8ys

    When you tighten the clamps, does each side have to make contact with the grooved spacer in the middle? I’m getting exhaust leaks at every clam and I’ve tighten them as much as I can. Not sure if I over or under tightened them though.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  4 месяца назад +1

      The sides of the clamps on my truck are not fully seated against the spacer. Most of them are at least touching it at its widest point on the outer side of the spacer, but not all of the clamps. Some are just close to it. I will say that over tightening can be easy to do. I actually over tightened a clamp during install to the point that the spacer snapped in half and I had to replace it. I don’t really know what to recommend if you are having exhaust leaks. I would hate to recommend tightening the clamps more, only for you to break a spacer like I did.

      I have pulled my 1970 Nova on its trailer multiple times since adding the exhaust. I, personally, have not had any issues with cabin noise. My family have even said that in-cabin noise is not bad. It doesn't interfere with listening to the radio or having conversations between passengers. You can hear the exhaust inside the truck during acceleration (and a little bit while cruising), but I would not say that it is problematic at all.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Год назад +1

      I don’t think it would affect the sound much, if even at all. The chrome “tips” are just for looks. The exhaust pipes don’t actually connect to them. The pipes stop about an inch or two from the factory “tips” so they should have no impact on the sound.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  Год назад

      I didn’t mention horsepower in the video title or in the video itself, but, since you brought it up: opening up the exhaust by removing restrictive factory exhaust can provide some amount of performance (horsepower) gains depending on the vehicle and the vehicle’s condition. Estimates range up to around a 10% increase in some cases, although this not guaranteed.

    Sounds good, looks great! Any drone? thx

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  2 года назад +1

      I personally don’t really notice much of a drone (if any at all). My dad has said that he hears a drone when he rides in it, but it’s not bad enough to make the ride uncomfortable or annoying. I can easily have conversations with people in the truck without the exhaust overpowering conversations. I was probably more aware of the drone when I first put the exhaust on, but I feel like as I’ve driven it, that awareness has faded away. I think it was probably more noticeable when I first installed it because the stock exhaust really has almost no sound to it at all so it was just a difference in volume that I have sense gotten used to.

    • @SouthpawGarage

      That’s great if you just want to swap the muffler. A complete exhaust kit allows you to get rid of the flapper valve, eliminate the resonators, change the pipe size, and change the exhaust tips to give the vehicle a bit of a sportier / more aggressive look.

    • @SouthpawGarage
      @SouthpawGarage  2 года назад +2

      So far so exhaust leaks that I’ve noticed.
      We had to adjust where the rear-most brackets slot into the frame. I loosened the bolts for the rear most brackets and rotated them clock-wise until the tips were lined up in the center of the cutouts. Then I marked the frame and drilled a hole where the bracket notch needed to slot into the frame in order to keep the tips aligned properly. Then I tightened the bracket bolt back down.
