The old smith's before the damn key hole , were great guns. Now their quality control is weak A lot of canted barrels , rough edged barrels at the end of them. This is stuff I see on RUclips from the owners. Not to mention they don't have a triple locking cylinder like the GP100 . Its 70s Caddy compared to a 2 door Honda.
@Jimmy Jammy I just bought the 7 shot 4 inch Gp100 about 3 weeks ago . When I can find some ammo thats not $135 for 20 rounds I can't wait to shoot it lol
@jackburton9331 so you don't even own a smith and talking like that. I actually have two smith 686 plus and 586 and they are great guns and none of that bs you just said is true.
I have the 2.5" snub-nose model, it's super accurate. Standing using 148Gr target wadcuttters, I shot a 4" five (5) shot group at an NRA Bullseye Target from 50 yards using Double Action! Double Action is smooth as silk. Twenty five yards puts 22 rounds into that 4"Bullseye. Great gun.
I was going to ask if they made a snub nose model. I'm carrying an LC-9 presently, it doesn't carry any more ammo but I'm an old fashioned guy who would prefer a wheel gun. Added Bonus is your accuracy is better than anything I can get with the 9.
Another bonus on The Sourdough Pancake is that if you he e one for a 4” S&W 629, it fits the GP100 4” EXACTLY. I’ve swapped my 6 shot 357 and the 629 with zero loss of retention.
it breaks my heart to know I'll never get to watch Jeff do his reviews 💔 ,thank for all the wonderful videos we all love and miss u!!! I,m taking my Ruger to the range and I ll fire a 6 gun salute just for u Jeff!!!
I am a Ruger Fan from back.I am like you.I love and have Security Six,Speed Six.and Police Six in stainless 357 and A cpuple in just 38 special. Then I picked up 327 mag .I also have the SP 101 in a 5 shot. I need to.get this 7 shot now. Thanks for a great video on this gun MANY THANX
Great video and tunes. 2 thumbs up 👍👍I baught the sp101 4 inch 357 and I love all ruger revolvers there built like a tank and I hope one day my great grand kids will be shooting them. The 2nd ammenment is so important that I made being in the NRA a family tradition.
1st time coming across one of your gun review videos. Great review. Also just learned in the comments that you have passed on so continue to Rest In Paradise brother 🙏
Great review. I like that the front sight is pinned with a set screw and it's a 7 shot. I wish they would pin the front sight on the 8 shot Redhawk, then I'd buy that one instead for the extra capacity.
I really join your channel you never talk over or above and I appreciate that. Thanks for you just want to sit and have a Whiskey with you after a day of shooting.
Cool! But I already have a full size .357 Mag... a pretty nice one at that. If Ruger makes an 8-9 round .327 Fed Mag version, then I'll be back in the wheel gun market again.
I held one of these in my hand this morning at my local Cabelas. Identical to this one to be exact. I thought it felt good in the hand, pointed and balanced well, looks awesome and I just about walked out with it, but I don't buy anything without Jeff's approval, so here I am. I will own this tomorrow. I have a whole piss pot full of .38 Special ammo from wad cutters to FMJ ball to the new Federal HST to Hornady Critical Duty Red Tips and Speer Gold Dots. I don't have any in .357 but I will get some of that in the above flavors. Thanks for the honest reviews. You sound tired bud.
Hateful Hermit Yeah in the 80s maybe. New S&W bluing is garbage same with that ugly matte stainless with the blued controls. Ruger has a far superior finish than new Smiths.
that's the blue, for stainless Smith has better finish. Now I'd agree with you if they still did that Ruger GRey... that's sexy as hell. but nope, they stopped that.
Hi, before buying the Ruger GP100 7 rounds of 6 inches for a sport I would like to ask you about very accurate measurements if possible: weight of the trigger pull, dimensions (length, height and depth including the thickness of the drum) and line of sight (from one aims at the other). A thousand thanks.
I went to a local sporting goods store and looked at the guns there. The clerk asked me if I wanted to hold one, and this is the one I chose. I find myself loving it.
There are reports that the 7-round 357 mag GP100 has issues with some ammo not seating all the way in the cylinder due to the cylinder holes were drilled too close together. Have you seen this issue?
I've seen videos on this problem. It seems to be hit or miss, with not every owner having issues. So far it looks like the only real solution is to find out which ammo people have been having issues with and avoid them. Or stick with the six-shot model to be sure.
Nice review as always. I've been eyeing the 357 Redhawk or 686 plus, now I'm even more conflicted. Any thoughts on which would be the best for a range/Home defense choice? Thanks
I don't think the 8 rounds in a Redhawk over 7 rounds in the GP100 is worth the extra heft. Go with the GP100, I find that the single action on the Redhawk revolvers is disappointing and the GP's are better.
I was in the same boat as you last December as I was looking for a 4" 357. I was just about to buy the 686 plus and my dealer said hey I can get the new 7 shot GP 100. I'm glad i went with the gp, couldn't be happier.
Lol I went with all 3 also, I love all of them but the gp has the best double action feel to me. Of course the black hawk is only a single. I recently added the 8 shot 627 to the lineup and its becoming my favorite hiking gun.
Vapor Trails I have the Black Hawk in 357/9mm and like it, so I'm sure either Ruger would be great but the 686 has always been calling my name. I hate choices 🤣
I have and it still has one spring doing it all. Prefer the GP-100/Super Redhawk two spring set up on trigger and hammer. The Alaskan over the Redhawk for me.
Hey man good video what is your favorite barrel length on the any caliber. I have a Ruger GP100 I've had it since 1989 always been there with me everywhere I went but I'm thinking about getting the new GP100 6 inch 7 shot always wanted a longer Barrel but I love my old GP100
Word of warning this gun does not accept all ammo. Google ruger 7 shot gp100 binding issues. I'm considering canceling my order and getting 6 shot version
Logan Waltz yeah you would think, but this gun proves they can. If you can make a cylinder strong enough for seven rounds of 357 magnum, you can make one strong enough for five rounds of 44mag. Smith and Wesson did the same thing. As for why they released one in 44spl? It’s just good marketing. Glock wouldn’t of sold nearly as many single stacks if they released the 43 at the same time as the 42..... and I already have a redhawk haha
Yeah I really want the .44 GP100 but the thinness of the throat compared to a Smith or a Redhawk is concerning enough to put me off at least a little bit.
These are going for $749 plus tax new where I live. I got lucky and found a used example in great shape for $452 out the door. Great revolver! Now, do I keep my 4.2 inch 6 shot GP100...
The problem with simply rugged is that their leather coloring bleeds onto your clothes. I’ve ordered two belts and a holster from them. Same issues. If you contact them about it, they are pretty rude. Just my experience.
spyderxtra777 the belts were both black. The holster was oxblood. All of them had the same issue. When I contacted them, I think I was talking to the wife...and she was not friendly about it at all. I ran a search and found people with the same issues. I suppose it’s possible they changed their processes since then. It was about 3 years ago.
Huh, I ordered a sourdough pancake for my speed six 9mm and got it with in two weeks. Problem was it was a real loose fit. I tried my GP100 in it and it fit perfectly. I emailed Rob and explained it to him to which he replied I should keep the first holster for my GP and he would send me the correct one for my speed six. I told him I wasn't expecting a 2 for 1. Just a replacement. He told me keep it anyway. No attitude what so ever. Got the Speed six holster with in a few weeks and it perfectly. Love them both. Can't ask for better customer service than that.
I dig your vids. I need a get er done bear, snake and man gun for my environment; like a 6 in judge mag but this looks like comp. plus have ammo swap w my 38s.
I have a random question for anybody including the maker of this video. I'm left handed but I was shot in my left hand. I healed n it's some what back to normal but I still shoot with my right hand considering the ejector button & everything is for right handed users. Should I be true to myself & use my revolver (686 snub) southpaw or should I just keep practicing with my right hand? Any thoughts?
Gunblastdotcom yea it was a known issue on the ones a few years back I hope it’s solved because I ordered one today ! Lol...I’m thinking some of that was due to out of spec ammo
I really enjoy watching these older videos of this man shooting, I was very sad to hear of his passing.
Same
I did not know he passed 😢
Jeff was one of the good ones.
When....?😮
So who is the guy still making videos??? Is this his brother?
Never gone NEVER forgotten.
This man's spirit is with Creator and his works remain here with us till this day.
Watching these videos is my meditation.
What's not to like? Ruger... .357... 7 shots. A win all the way around. Good review like always.
This is by Far more Superior Revolver than a 686 plus. Coming from a S&W owner

@jackburton9331 so you don't even own a smith and talking like that. I actually have two smith 686 plus and 586 and they are great guns and none of that bs you just said is true.
Another great review. Owned a couple of GP100s over the years. They're excellent guns.
Sir, I’ve been watching you for years. Thanks for the honest review and great close ups.
Jeff... Dude.... Chicken noodle soup and rest man. We can't lose you. You're important to the 2ND amendment movement.
Christos1680 Poor guy sounds like shit 🤣
Jeff, glad you are not sick! Wish I could say he same for those fan blades in the background!
Tennessee Valley hunidty does that.
jeff

Love that song Jeff!
I really enjoy this gun reviewer. Lays the facts & personal impressions out there with plain honesty. I enjoy the music, too.
Another bonus on The Sourdough Pancake is that if you he e one for a 4” S&W 629, it fits the GP100 4” EXACTLY. I’ve swapped my 6 shot 357 and the 629 with zero loss of retention.
Man, as a southern boy I love the introduction music. Great review. Love your videos
it breaks my heart to know I'll never get to watch Jeff do his reviews 💔 ,thank for all the wonderful videos we all love and miss u!!! I,m taking my Ruger to the range and I ll fire a 6 gun salute just for u Jeff!!!
A fine, good looking revolver! Thanks bro Jeff. Its always nice to see you n bro Boge's videos...goes with me morning coffee like a sweet roll!! Mike

MANY THANX
Love this channel, already have a 6' 686+ do I really need another .357? No. Do I want one? yeah... that double action looks sweet.
Great video and tunes. 2 thumbs up 👍👍I baught the sp101 4 inch 357 and I love all ruger revolvers there built like a tank and I hope one day my great grand kids will be shooting them. The 2nd ammenment is so important that I made being in the NRA a family tradition.

Great review. I like that the front sight is pinned with a set screw and it's a 7 shot. I wish they would pin the front sight on the 8 shot Redhawk, then I'd buy that one instead for the extra capacity.
And here is another Ruger thats needs adding to my Ruger collection.
I really join your channel you never talk over or above and I appreciate that. Thanks for you just want to sit and have a Whiskey with you after a day of shooting.
I would settle for a cold RC Cola.
jeff
Cool! But I already have a full size .357 Mag... a pretty nice one at that. If Ruger makes an 8-9 round .327 Fed Mag version, then I'll be back in the wheel gun market again.

I knew I shouldn't have clicked on this video. I have a 1707 [GP100/6rds/6" barrel]. Now I gotta get myself one of these because...well...because!
in my opinion GP100 is the best .357 magnum revolver... thank you man for the video!!! respect from Rome, Italy
Si, bellissimo revolver
The Pachmyr diamond pro grips really helped me with hot 158 grain loads. Only $20.
What a piece of a art you have on your hand. Just awesome
In the slow motion, he’s not jerking his pull. It’s smooth, and you can’t fake that. But, I already am a huge fan of Ruger
just got the same gun today, first gun ever bought!
Very nice! The GP100 is a great gun. Stout as an ox too!
Nice gun. I'd buy one if I wouldn't have bought a security six 33 years ago. Still my favorite
I hope Smith sees the nice satin finish on that Ruger and learns how to do it.
454pakr The S&W finish is better.
The smith finish is a better finish.
I don't see how ANYONE could say that the ugly Smith matte stainless finish looks good!
I just got mine today and gooooootdamn that GP100 is beautiful.
Hi, before buying the Ruger GP100 7 rounds of 6 inches for a sport I would like to ask you about very accurate measurements if possible: weight of the trigger pull, dimensions (length, height and depth including the thickness of the drum) and line of sight (from one aims at the other). Great video sir. Thanks for showing us this superb revolver.
Awesome job on the Video Jeff
I'd like mine with a 6 inch barrel please! It's a great looking revolver, for sure.
There are reports that the 7-round 357 mag GP100 has issues with some ammo not seating all the way in the cylinder due to the cylinder holes were drilled too close together. Have you seen this issue?

4:58 WOW she has a very steady grip. I bet she's a hell of a shot.
Nice review as always. I've been eyeing the 357 Redhawk or 686 plus, now I'm even more conflicted. Any thoughts on which would be the best for a range/Home defense choice? Thanks
I couldn't decide either, so I have all three, but forced to choose, I would go with this GP.
jeff
I don't think the 8 rounds in a Redhawk over 7 rounds in the GP100 is worth the extra heft. Go with the GP100, I find that the single action on the Redhawk revolvers is disappointing and the GP's are better.

Vapor Trails I have the Black Hawk in 357/9mm and like it, so I'm sure either Ruger would be great but the 686 has always been calling my name. I hate choices 🤣
Was the cylinder enlarged to accept the seventh round, or were they able to fit it in with the same one that uses the traditional six founds?
Yup 125 grain has a good kick on mine
That's a nice ass gun!! 👍👍I love the 357 revolvers. Thanks for sharing👍👍.
Miss u Jeff
Love the Rugers - not sure i can afford that one anymore
Miss you Jeff.
Oldman I grew up knowing my whole life killed 2 arm robbers with one of those 357’s..battle tested and approved
Does this mean we'll get a 8 shot .327 fed?
Yes, it now exists.
Good review Jeff. Keep on keeping on🇺🇸
This dude gives a hell of a review
My 6 inch rocks. Love these, going to get the 4 inch next
Yeah my 6 inch rocks also...👍🤓🙈
What about the Taurus 692 relative to the 686 and the Gp100?
A very good investment the Ruger GP 100 7 - shot .357 Mag. , whats the longest barrel it comes in ?
The 7-shot 357 is available in 2.5, 4.2, and 6 inch models.
jeff
So nice. Very cool revolver.
Have you tried the Charter Arms Southpaw? 🤔🧐
May someone tell me the disadvantages of having a 7 round cylinder? If they can make 7, then why do people still buy 6
🙏 RIP
Does the 6 shooter version shoot just as smooth and reliable as this 7 shooter does?
Is it a bad idea to name mine's Grandpa since it used to be his
Not at all. I expect he would be proud.
Boge
Very nice revolver! Hope you're feeling ok.
Love those grips.
Is that cylinder much wider than the normal gp100 cylinder because I wanna ccw iwb it but idk if it’s too bulky
Gunblast, do you know if the cylinder on the 6-rnd version is smaller OD than the cylinder on this 7-rnd version?
Great video sir. Have you had any ammo binding in the cylinder?
None at all.
jeff
It's been a few months now. Have you had any issues with rounds not fitting when the cylinder is full?
Very nice. I'd also like to see an 8 shot 357 Alaskan.
Diapsid the OG check out the ruger redhawk 357
I have and it still has one spring doing it all. Prefer the GP-100/Super Redhawk two spring set up on trigger and hammer. The Alaskan over the Redhawk for me.
Hey man good video what is your favorite barrel length on the any caliber. I have a Ruger GP100 I've had it since 1989 always been there with me everywhere I went but I'm thinking about getting the new GP100 6 inch 7 shot always wanted a longer Barrel but I love my old GP100
I prefer the 4.2 for handiness hunting, and the 2.5 to 3 inch concealed
jeff
nice one Jeff, take care of yourself, get some cough drops.
Boy we miss you Jeff! Rest in Peace! Let's Go Brandon!
Any issues loading all 7 rounds of different brands/calibers/sizes of ammo?
None at all.
jeff
Word of warning this gun does not accept all ammo. Google ruger 7 shot gp100 binding issues. I'm considering canceling my order and getting 6 shot version
Two of hearts? ruclips.net/video/lfBdGT4dn4E/видео.html
Hey sir that Gp Ruger u got there what's the weight ..it's got seven shots..wow.. mine only 5 shots Sp.101..
According to Ruger's web site, the weight is 40 ounces.

DANG ETHAN GREW up!!!
How much is the cylinder gap on this?
I am predicting a 5 shot 44magnum next to compete with Smith 69
Logan Waltz yeah you would think, but this gun proves they can. If you can make a cylinder strong enough for seven rounds of 357 magnum, you can make one strong enough for five rounds of 44mag. Smith and Wesson did the same thing. As for why they released one in 44spl? It’s just good marketing. Glock wouldn’t of sold nearly as many single stacks if they released the 43 at the same time as the 42..... and I already have a redhawk haha
I would rather see it in 41 magnum
Ain't going to happen, talked with Lipseys and the throat area is way too thin for magnum pressure at .429 and from what I understand even at .410.
Excellent deal! Especially since Ruger has excellent customer service and will take care of any gun issues(not likely with a gp100!).
I’ve heard the cylinder is too small; the casings touch and cause binding.
That has not been my experience, using several brands of ammunition.
jeff
The problem with simply rugged is that their leather coloring bleeds onto your clothes. I’ve ordered two belts and a holster from them. Same issues. If you contact them about it, they are pretty rude. Just my experience.
Trent M what color? I have a black belt from them for a few years now worn almost daily, no issues.
spyderxtra777 the belts were both black.
GREAT. REVOLVER. & VIDEO-!!!!! THANKS-!!!! DJB@PA...U.S.A...!!!!!
Great video
I dig your vids. I need a get er done bear, snake and man gun for my environment; like a 6 in judge mag but this looks like comp. plus have ammo swap w my 38s.
Jeff does it come in a 3 inch barrel?
The 7-shot is available with a 2.5 inch, but not a 3 inch.
jeff
Gunblastdotcom Thank you Jeff and stay safe brother.
I used to have the 2.5 in barrel one it was amazing felt very solid and quality
I miss Jeff. He sounds a little hoarse here.
Do whatever words best for YOU. Only you can determine that.
jeff
My last name is Shepherd, I wonder if we were related? Main family out of Roanoke VA.
can i upgrade my 6 shot to 7?
Get some!
Sooo, is this what was in the famous gray box?
It was not.
jeff
Watching you shoot in slo-mo it appears as if the cylinder blow by is minimal.
I wish Ruger would bring back the security six tbh
I like this revolver and that pancake holster too.
really like your vid. god down home feel.
The one that was 'in the box'? :D
It is not.
jeff
Drat!
Jeff, what happened to your forearms?
I got old.
jeff
Looked like you injured them.
Hks speed loader 587-a
Any issues with the 7 round cylinder binding due to rounds touching it’s a known issue in this model
None whatsoever. Nor have I heard of any such problems.
Boge
Gunblastdotcom yea it was a known issue on the ones a few years back I hope it’s solved because I ordered one today ! Lol...I’m thinking some of that was due to out of spec ammo
Good video...thank you
Sounds like ya got a Jack And Romeo yJulietta throat there Jeff.
Jeff doesn't drink or smoke. Never did, that always aggravated me.
Boge
Lovn the music!!
Thanks!
Boge
