Unfortunately i can’t understand you. I’m thalassemia intermediate 35 of age. My recent test 2 days ago my hgb is 8.1. I’m of west African decent and live in the US. I’m struggling physically, tired and drain with other medical problems but no one will transfuse me unless I’m under 8.0. I would like to one day be at a 10.0. I’m sick every other month and no one believes me. I need options because I’m loosing hope. Too many years of suffering alone.

My sister is suffering from minor beta Thalassemia... and the hemoglobin level is not rising,she is taking supplement like folic acid, vitamin B12, she is not taking iron because iron level is 250 because of blood transfusion, done in previous month... we are consulting with hematologist but they cant figure out currently, why the hemoglobin level is not rising and at this time it is about 6unit..and it may fall after menstrual cycle..

@@MubashirHematologist Dr sahib , we have done RBCs screening and anibodies which is positive and recomended negative jka so we transfuse again negative jka now his spleen is enlarged what is best possiblity to reduces , second i said to doctor that if we did few more transfused will spleen be back on his stage he said yes but an other antibodies could be created chances but not sure , so we will see condition first . intermedia is difficult case

25% normal, no symptoms
25% D trait which is expected to be asymptomatic

@@MubashirHematologist yes it is very good medicine and can i use with out hydroxy urea , bcoz it does not suits. but when i transfuse my son his hib increased but slowly decreased. his iron overload is increased 1479 so doctor gave me asurna 800 mh , when i gave him he has loose motion now im giving him 400 mg only for few days .

Good age for BMT is around 2 years or after. But Many clinical considerations are there before selecting for BMT

Yesterday, my doctor told me that I have minor thalassemia. I was surprised as im 29 years old Im an athlete , body builder and even I donated blood a few years ago. My HB level is 7.4 ferritin level is high to 452. Alt is 90, ast is 59, GGT is 66 .
However, serum iron level B12 and iron folate are normal. HB a2 is 5.2 a sign of minor thalassemia. I feel headache, vertigo, exacted, and weak now please suggest me some treatment. I dont want to go for transfusion. Regards

It's difficult to prescribe medication. Bc different countries have different preparations for medicines and different regulations. We can only guidelines on treatment.

Assalamualaikum Dr sahab. My son recently diagnosed with beta Thal intermedia. Overall Hb 6.8, Hb elec. showed Beta Thal intermedia with HbF 95%, HbA 2%, HbA2 2.5. Dr put him on hydroxyurea for Hb increase. What are long-term permanent treatment options? Is hydroxyurea safe?
Hydroxyurea is beneficial but not always. It needs monitoring hemoglobin, liver and kidney tests.

No. Bc genetic defect between thalassemia minor and other two is different. However, thalassemia intermedia can convert to major later in life.

No issues I think. I just take vitB12, pyridoxine, vitD, vitC, zink, and Folic acid lifelong to avoid any deficiency states. Thalassemia minor is also a high consumption state.

Dr can I get my 2 year old son a stem cell transplant? He has thalassemia intermedia, his hb levels are 7.4 and he's on hydroxyurea
First of all build up his vitb12, folic acid, pyridoxine, vitD, vitC, zinc, calcium, phosphate, vitE, vitA levels. Check his dependence on blood transfusion. If he does not maintain hemoglobin level above 10, get his SCT done.

No need of transplant if he maintains hemoglobin more than 10 with multivitamin and micronutrient support.
However, if he get SCT in any case, he can cure completely. But there can be relapse.
Success rates vary from center to center, availability of suitable HLA match, conditioning status, expansion of BM, etc.
