I'm glad I don't watch the show with a very critical eye. It remains highly enjoyable for me.
The music is great. The animation is very high quality and I even like most of the writing.
The fanbase and it's creativity is positively jaw dropping and keeps me coming back for more.
You know the show is going downhill when some of the fan fiction is better than the actual show it’s based off of.

Midnight Sorrow I understand where your coming from. I loved the first few seasons of the show however it seems as though Hasbro is running out of ideas for this show, it will be sad to see the show go if it comes to that but the past few seasons just haven’t been the same.

Welcome back dude. I love the show but I completely understand what you're saying. I'm in a community called Equestria Amino and its hard to stay active there because the show keeps getting worse. I think MLP is meant for kids and Gravity Falls for teens so that's why GF is more in depth. My biggest thing that gets me irritated constantly is the fact that Twilight is an Alicorn Princess but everyone just shits on her and treats her like a random street pony.
"Oh, look, it's the princess of friendship and Celestia's best pupil so far. No big deal, let's just treat her however we want with no respect at all!"

Old video yeah but it totally makes sense why it "fell off" im pretty sure Lauren had pretty much the first 3 season in the bag and already done or in concept it was the other writers who are scrambling around because they were hired to make a kids show around the ip but after Lauren left they all of a sudden had millions of adult fans screaming in their ears and now had some of the biggest boots to fill I personally think give it another 3 or 4 years and all of a sudden once the old guard mlps fans fall out the new ones will see that the later seasons weren't that bad and then you'll see multi hour documentarys all over saying remember mlp fim ?

A lot of character potential is squandered. Spike is a good example. Every time he makes character progress another episode ruins it.
I'll apologize for my previous comment. Sorry. I've gotten more than sick of hearing "mlp is dying" from people because everyone who has said that in the last few months has been talking about the fandom. With nothing to back it up. NONE were talking about the show. You're the first that I've seen. Here, you actually laid out your arguments. Though I disagree with some. It's not the show that's stagnant. It's the mane 6....and DISCORD. Discord especially is awful and it seems mostly because the writers feel they don't have to do anything for him. As if a discord episode will write itself. It won't. I like what they've done with starlight, celestia, luna, cmc, trixie, cozy glow and the student 6 in recent times though. Also, I'll give 2 of the mane 6 a slight break. Applejack grew some cuz of the extended family dynamic (grand pear and learning more about her parents). Rarity cuz of her expanding businesses (she might actually leave them one day and it gives them a good story reason why). First teasing that in rarity takes manehattan. And to touch on something you didn't.....SOMBRA. The biggest single wasted opportunity in this shows history. Sombra had so much potential.....and they never did anything with it. Now it looks like they never will.
To everyone else, I'll leave an abridged version of my original comment here (in case anyone wants to call me out on it........kek):
That is ridiculous…..as are the many people regurgitating it in the last few months. I guess everyone gets an opinion but: The brony creation and music scenes are as thriving as they have ever been. Many have said the fandom is dying. That is not remotely true. I don't know if fans are just running with the theory that everything has taken a nosedive because some have said it (with no evidence....other than it is year 9 and they simply feel that way) or if they simply don't know about the newer creators and the fact that the show is still going. But they are there....and it is. Whether season 9 is it or not, that doesn't mean the death of fandom. There are still plenty of sites that bronies get together on outside of youtube. Though, my forte is youtube. As far as youtube, there are many brony video makers and musicians releasing videos/songs all the time. Maybe even as many as 2011-2012. I can say with ease there are more than 50 musicians and 50 other video makers who produce something regularly, which are simply the ones I like. I am subbed to over 1000 brony channels. Yes, many are inactive. But just as many, if not more, are active. Not even touching the actual amount who produce content regularly across youtube (mainly lesser known pmvs/comic dubs/voice actors in training/cover artists/nsfw). They just aren't the original few who made it 'big' then left to do other things (no names). The newer creators simply are smaller and have not gotten that recognition yet (partially from people who would rather whine that "OMG........THE FANDOM IS DYING!!!" instead of spend a few minutes on eqd or a few minutes on youtube, out of the hundreds of thousands of minutes they have). It's a bit premature to announce the death of a fandom, ESPECIALLY while that show is still running. The fandom is not dead. It is not dying. It has simply gone to a new generation. /)
Why not do fan fic reviews? I know at times the the word “fanfic” creates a reaction similar to that of chewing on aluminum. Having said this, there have been some rather talented unknowns( with regard to professional story telling of this show) that have answered many of your problems with the show with their storylines. Don’t get me wrong there are garbage fan made stories but there are some rather novel and original stories that dwarf the the show in content a thousand times over, that do progress the story line and offer growth to the characters.
Truth be told I am more a fan of the fan works then most of the show’s overall storyline. I don’t know if that makes me a pariah in regards to the fandom, but the original a ideas and the ability to remain consistent in character development has always drawn me more to fan works of note. Examples being ( ‘Change’ series, ‘Bug in the basement’, ‘message in a bottle’, Chrysalis: savior of time’, Into the Depths, etc)
Now having the training and education that you have had, along with ability to produce great RUclips content , I think it would be rather interesting to get your take on fan works and how they compare to the original content. Just a thought, but I think the fandom and it’s works maybe on the decline due new Gen show starting soon.
I'd argue that each time that the ponies are faced with the same problem is when it's on a higher scale, especially Twilights anxiety issues.
I watch the show because i have a good feeling when watching it, it just make me happy.

Do I think it's ever gonna be as good as the current show, or even...good? Nnnnnnnot really, with the current writing staff and Hasbro heads who don't really seem to understand how to make the LIMITLESS POTENTIAL MAGICAL FANTASY LAND they're working with appealing. I do think it'll it least be quite INTERESTING though, just to see what happens.

@@ConspiraPon3 I got places to be in the next couple hours but I'll see what I can find later. It's difficult to find stuff because Hasbro tries to shut this kind of information down wherever it can. The leaks were quite extensive though and we learned a lot. (Much of it is not final and subject to change, but is still a great window as to what's in store.) I'll see if I can scrounge up a compilation of leaks later. /mlp/ is where all this stuff went down.
@@ConspiraPon3 Man, I failed HARD on this promise. I can't find this stuff ANYWHERE. I mean if you just look up 'mlp g5 leaks' you'll see bits and pieces of it, but I really really wanted to find a full, complete compilation of all the leaks that happened, and I cannot for the life of me find one.

Good video, most of new episodes are really boring. They have so many characters and they do nothing with them (I'm still waiting for episode about Shining Armour or episode about Twilight's school times). Anyway have you seen Perfect Pear? It's prabobly one of the best episodes in this show.

I really feel like MLP has recently figured out how to fix a lot of these problems- not all of them, obviously, but with the advent of the map quests (which are getting more diverse and genuinely interesting now) they've gotten back to their roots, in a way. They've found a workaround for the sudden demand of 'HEY GIMME MY MAGIC I DON'T SEE ENOUGH MAGIC FRIENDSHIP LASERS OMGGGGGGG'/darker, deeper storylines from older fans that can only stand so many daily festivals, and have an instant character matchup machine to address problems with varying kinds of relationships. They've tackled how advancing 'friendships' (read: romantic partnerships) too quickly can cause rifts between you and your 'friend', as you'll see sides of them you didn't get to before if you live with them for a while and that can be overwhelming. There was the episode where Starlight Glimmer and Sunburst go back home to reconcile their relationships with their (single) parents, which are each in turn two different extremes; the coddling helicopter parent who can't understand that children become adults, and the pressuring tiger parent who's determined to organize their child's entire life to make sure they succeed. The 'friendship problem' is fixed by a mature, rational discussion where each party apologizes for their behavior and performs a real example of how they intend to make the new lesson stick. The most recent seasons of MLP are in my opinion really doing their best to address issues like these, and seem to be having a similar (if accelerated) timeline to Spongebob; a sudden dip in writing quality barring a few episodes that was met with fan backlash, and then an immediate heel-face turn as they started to learn how to remain faithful to the original few seasons while still producing new and interesting content. Magic is usually just a minor plot point, or is the problem rather than the solution, and Deus Ex Machina moments have slipped into relative rarity.
...No pun intended.
And as for Tirek, he does return; not as the main villain, however, but as the inspiration for another one that is built up during the entire season. The threat is hidden in the background, and while physically feeble, they masterfully use their superior intellect to manipulate and eliminate any potential hazard to their plans Moriarty-style, using friendship as a weapon for evil. It's fascinating to watch and surprisingly full of suspense, even if there's a couple of slightly out of place gags. And finally, we don't forgive a villain; not because they died or ran away, but because they committed legitimate crimes and need to be served justice. It's delicious.

To me it always seemed like there was more care and attention to detail put into the earlier seasons. It seems now they're just throwing sh*t at the wall and seeing if it sticks.
This is something that Fame and Misfortune brought up. People aren’t flawless and don’t completely change after one lesson, just like real people in the real world. That’s what makes the characters in FiM so relatable.
I fell out of touch with the show a whole while ago too, although I seemingly watched for a bit longer than you did.
I admit, I don't quite agree with all of your points.
It's both obvious and a shame that the show has a butt load of missed potential, but to be fair, most shows do. The truth is, it was never designed to be a linear show akin to Gravity falls (where the order of the episodes in a season actually matters), the way I see it it was meant as an amalgamation between the old type of cartoon with independent episodes, sprinkled with some continuity.
And from this point of view things actually worked kinda well for a while. I often times saw small instances, almost easter eggs, where you clearly see character growing or having learned from past episodes. It was neat, an cute ... but in the end I just got tired of this general type of story telling.
I just can't stand shows anymore where every episode is an independent episode. For example, I loves Star Gate back then, one of my favorite shows, it had a great setting, some wonderful ideas, interesting characters ... and a story that really only got told during during season finales and openers. It's unwatchable for me these days.
I need shows like Gravity falls, like over the garden wall, like the man in the high castle, stranger things. Animes do this great, they just have a culture of telling a linear story because they have actual source material unlike most western cartoons that are simply based on visual (toy)-concepts instead of a narrative medium.
I believe that the very essence that the main characters took as a basis is incorrect. This is friendship, and it is interpreted endlessly as a phenomenon with all the consequences, it is difficult to say whether the main characters need to change their thinking and character along with the latter, but still the main essence of the series was fulfilled by talking about the problems of friendship.
The series does not single out the main characters as something unusual that requires it. Rather, these are just unremarkable ponies who, in parallel with their normal lives, solve friendship issues for granted. I am sure that the series is a series and if it interprets friendship in a fairly uniform way, then this is only a feature.
I don't even know, but it seems to me all this is complete madness because I feel a sense of missed opportunity from the moment I got acquainted with the series, I feel depersonalization directly related to cyclothymia. I took a lot of pills, but all this is complete nonsense because the problem is in my mind and only I am able to change it through logical thinking and only that.
I loved this show and sad its ending but for me it never declined it was always an amazing show so I disagree with what you say about it and the charters being static
I've been seeing Season 9 being the final season on leaked schedules and then G5 looks like its gonna be anime ponies so if they are keeping the same characters I hope to see a Sailor Saturn reincarnation from an epic G4 battle to the start of G5

back from the latest episode of S9 and maybe they might have listened to your opinion on this and included it here? Because I realise I've seen a lot of change that sounds similar to what's listed here.
Feel validated - it's taken a massive nose dive. Strong characters have been reduced to drooling newborns (lookin' at you, Starswirl) who should be leading on magical education, yet falls prey to petty problems that common sense should have deterred him from. Even if I were a child, I'd be upset by this.

Yeah, it was a lot of fun helping you make theories and enjoying the show with you, but I have to agree. The show was slowing down a little before episode 100, which was a fantastic episode--but, by that point, they were so focused on easter eggs, in-jokes, and flashy effects that they forgot the heart of the show. The Mane Six were supposed to be relatable people who gave us courage to get better with our own struggles. But, if Applejack is just going to learn to be honest over and over and over, and Rarity learns to be generous over and over and over, and the occasional pie from Discord flies by to remind us he exists, and they never, ever get back to *using* the things they've learned (skills or otherwise) to build up to something new, what's really the point? Why would a kid be convinced they could succeed if they're getting told nothing they learn matters, and stupid gimmicks will make them forget anything useful they can do to fix the problem until they scream "FRIENDSHIP" loud enough?

Brony notion came back. Maybe you could too? But I think you're right. It's easy to write for the show because there's so many things that are never explained. Since the show has had so many writers, there's too many hands in the pot & 1 strong story at the center can't come through. But hopefully gen 5 will be better.
