    I posit the M6Mk2 and the R7 have the same basic guts. The R7 has the advantage of better developed firmware and was marketed as an entry level camera for the R series of lenses Canon wants to sell. The disadvantage of the R7 system is the loss of the M series lenses ... which had a promise of offering a small compact and light weight lens array ... until, of course, Canon killed the series to sell more higher profit R mount lenses. The M series was the beta max of cameras - potentially superior concept ditched for superior profits. I shoot Canon cameras as they are the Toyota of camera systems - boring, predictable and reliable. But, Canon, the company, is not about supporting its user community.

    The result I've got comparing the same RAW images at ISO 100 from DPREVIEW was different of yours, probably you missed a configuration in your camera, I downloaded a 100 ISO RAWs from M6mkII and R7 and processed them with DXO RAW 3.0, there is no difference in noise, clarity and sharpness, the result is exactly the same picture at 400%.
    If you go to Photon to Photos site, the DR and NOISE curve are exactly the same in M6mkII and R7, that site confirm my findings and demostrates that the youtuber did mistakes in the testings.
    I do mostly landscape and portraits, the R7 is more a downgrade than an upgrade in my case.

    I have both cameras. The R7 has the major advantage of animal eye tracking that is incredible. Other than that I love my little m6ii. The best part is I can use ef lenses with the adaptor, have a few ef-m lenses from Canon and Sigma. I still have not bought an RF lens due to mostly the price, omg! Canon needs to let third party makers build for the rf mount.

      I use the Ef to RF adapter to mount ef L grade telezooms to my R7 and they work very well. I am sure native RF may be a little more snappy to focus, however the cost is way to much, and I am not spending the cost of a reasonable used car amount on replacing my current EF mount lenses !

    Good video on the comparisons of two popular cameras. I suspect the digiX CPU in the R7 is a big reason for the improvement in image quality.
    Both cameras have what is still a relatively slow read out sensor. I own 7Dii, R7, Sony A6600, Sony NEX5R. The R7 is by far the best eye AF detection I have used, with only the R5 and Sony A9ii which are at the pinnacle of their game.

    I was eager to hear your review, as I recently recently upgraded my M6 II to the R7 (though like you, I wasn't ready to give up on the M6 II, which I still use for video and astrophotography). My main application is birding, and I swear I never had so much fun as I did with the M6 II, which I used with both a Sigma 150-600C and Tamron 100-400 Di VC with Canon's EF to EF-M adaptor. But the late 2022 saw a 20% off sale here in Canada, and my wife persuaded me to trade in my two bird lenses for the Canon RF 100-500 mm, and I fear there is no going back. The Tamron 100-400 weigh the same as the RF 100-500, and the Sigma weighs 50% more, which was a serious limitation due to a physical handicap. In addition, I no longer have to worry about AF pulsing, the dual focus motors are exquisitely responsive, and the image quality is breathtaking (as you would expect for L glass). Add animal eye tracking and better co-ordination between the lens IS and R7 IBIS, and I'm now singing a completely different tune. If you can manage the price, it's definitely worth the upgrade, at least for birds and wildlife.

      The RF 100-500 would probably have been a great lens, but the price 😅 I’ve been looking at the RF 100-400.. it’s not an L lens, but I’ve seen some YT videos about it and it looks promising 😊 Glad you found joy in your new setup ☺️

    • @randallbrander8157
      @randallbrander8157 Год назад +2

      I do not know if Mr. Hansen has ever used the Sony A7IV but the lenses are the most important component for the camera. Wide field of view, Macro or lower aperture will make any picture or video that you create pop. You will always get new cameras but it is the lenses that you will keep. It also depends on your budget. You cannot go wrong with any decision that you choose. Just remember buying a newer camera will be outdated pretty quickly. Sony has a great lens collection APSC and Full Frame for the Mirrorless. Canon has just two APSC Zoom Lenses and I believe the RF-S 24mm but you can get an adapter for the EF lenses. Also the Sony A7IV is a Full Frame camera which lets in more light than the Canon M6II is APSC. Hope this helps in your decision. Cheers!

    • @RogerAVHansen
      @RogerAVHansen  Год назад +1

      I own the A7IV, haven’t tried the R6 mark ii (yet). One advantage of the R6 mark II is 40fps in electronic shutter against 10fps on the A7IV. Not sure how the rolling shutter is on the R6 mark ii, but with 40fps there has to be some keepers there 😊 The lower MP sensor on the R6 mark II should help in low light situations also. Both cameras is full frame but Sony have so many more lenses for their system. But again, I haven’t tried the R6 mark II, nor have I tried fashion photography, so I’m not the best person to answer this question 😊

    • @RogerAVHansen
      @RogerAVHansen  Год назад +1

      Hi!
      Well, your budget sets a limit to what you can buy.. getting something used could definitely get you more quality for the money.
      Getting the cinematic look is more often about lighting and lenses than it is about cameras nowadays.
      I would take lens options in consideration when deciding on what camera brand to go for. Canon has put themselves in a corner banning third party lenses on their RF mount. I think I would look toward a brand that had third party lens options, like Sony and Lumix for example.
      With your budget you should probably look for a camera with an APS-C sensor, those are cheaper cameras but you can still get great looking footage out of them with the right lens, and lenses for APS-C cameras are often cheaper also.
      Don’t know if I have one specific camera to recommend to you, but hopefully my answer can help you narrow the search a bit. The best of luck to you 😊

    I think we can all agree that the R7 is a much better camera spec wise than the M6 mkii, but the huge gap in APS-C lenses is the reason I wouldn't by the R7 or R10 now. I think lenses matter more than the body. Once Canon actually has some good lenses for their APS-C RF cameras this could be a much different story. Also using a full frame lens comparison is kinda misleading since the Sigma 56mm f1.4 will give you much better image quality for the M6 mkii than the ef 50mm 1.8 can offer with a similar field of view. Sadly the R7 doesn't have any real 3rd party lens option and likely won't. I haven't been happy with the full frame image quality of the M6 mkii but when I use APS-C lenses I see better image detail, colors and quality. Also the colors and images are much more comparable once you used an APS-C lens comparison, even if the M6MKii has more noise. SO I think the real takeaway is do you want to buy a camera now that has more native/3rd party lens options or do you trust Canon to make better lenses in the future? I'll wait to see what lenses these body get before I go back to an RF mount camera.

      Yeah, the lenses collection for the R7 and R10 is not that huge at the moment. Rumors has it that the next lens coming together with the new R50 is a RF 22mm f/2… you could almost think that Canon is refurbishing the EF-M lenses… 🤔 If this is Canons strategy for the APS-C lenses I’m a bit disappointed. I was hoping to see something new.. in that case the EF-M collection is better since you have the third party options.

      @@RogerAVHansen it seems to me the R7 was really made to be used with high quality full frame lenses. 50mb "cropped" images would be amazing for wildlife and it definitely has the auto focus to keep up with just about anything if the lenses are fast enough. I think this is where the RF 100-400 would excel. I can consistently get 40-50 mb images using my full frame lenses with my M6 mkii so the R7 should be able to get higher resolution by a healthy amount with enough quality glass.

    It is the mount size makes the difference.

    Dpreview test scene shows different results. LR profile for RAW image is still not comparable. It is showing you SOMETHING to begin with, not to compare in the apples to oranges. This is not a good investigative work.

    Using the worst lens from Canon and the most worst for the M-System.

      Też mam takie podejrzenie, że odszumianie, styl obrazu oraz wyostrzanie dało taki efekt na finalnym porównaniu.
