Just picked up my Mk8 2 weeks ago. Noticeably better than my mk7 and the internet has over reacted about the touch screens and haptic buttons. They're really not that bad. My only complaints is the AC seats are lacking and the turn signal is obnoxiously loud. Impatiently waiting for Integrated Engineering to drop a tune!
I just picked one up last Thursday and it’s the S as well. I paid 33000 usd. This was my first new car I’ve ever bought so I didn’t realize I got overcharged until after I bought it. I will never make that mistake again lol I was planning on getting a GLI but they didn’t have any nor could they order any. The sales guy talked me into the GTI especially after I test drove it. It came with a 3 month Sirius XM subscription but the car doesn’t even have a satellite band in the radio 😂 Other than that I really love the car I just wish I paid a little less and took my dad with me to the dealership 😂
All GTI get the actual LED front lights in 2024 model:) All I can say after owning a 2010 and newer AWESOME is an understatement , and the GTI base is the best actually loaded now with heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charger standard......!

Great review. I haven’t noticed the headlights. But from what I understand the 2023 S trim has cornering lights - just a little light that come on versus the headlights that turn.
The North American GTI 's doesn't matter what trim do not swivel like the MK7.5's did. They do have cornering lights though that come on when you signal or turn the wheel. They are only auto leveling lights. So they only adjust either up or down.
Supposedly the S trim sound system is better than the Harmon Kardon system. There is also a recent recall on the back up camera software. I am debating between the S and SE trims. I would get the S trim but the manual seat holds me back.
Loved my launch edition mk8 6 speed. It got hurt a little after a couple months and it took months to get it back from the body shop even though it wasn’t that bad. So I sold it while I could still make some money. I ordered a 20th anniversary R and got it in June. It’s awesome. It defaults to sport not comfort. Tip for you, pulling on the shifter only changes the trans, not suspension.
I definitely didn’t follow your under steering example. How can you say that the car was “understeering” off the throttle, when you’re nowhere near a cornering speed that would actually induce possible understeer? Just food for thought since your complaint didn’t even correlate to your video.
Thanks for the feedback, Jeremy :) I'm generally looking to test "at what speed does understeer begin (or not)" and if it's a low speed, that's unfortunate. As mentioned, it's decently neutral on-power.
I have the mk8 gtd with 19" Adelaide wheels in white.... 21 plate.. what a waste of £30k... spent most time in the garage due to SOS/travel assist errors... They thought they'd fixed it by replacing a module..nope..so booked in yet again..been told it's a steering wheel issue but they won't replace or order one till it's been diagnosed, so that's another 2-6 month's wait. . then found out the front alloy was cracked on the inside after I got a puncture which had already been welded by previous owner but cracked again luckily that's now being replaced free of charge.. transmission errors...this car is a complete headache lol

Perhaps it's just my example, but I stand by the fact that my 22 GTI S headlights are unimpressive. To the point where the brights are often necessary if there are no oncoming cars.

Of course! You can swipe down from the top of the screen to summon the drop down menu. You can also click that little "globe-looking thing" right under the clock to do the same. You can then customize what favorites appear. All you have to do is click and hold one of them down & more possible favorites will show up. Click & hold one of these new potential favorites & just drag them to the position you'd like :)

Shifter just puts the transmission in Sport, your steering, suspension (if you have DCC), and exhaust will stay in whatever actual mode you selected. Selecting sport mode allows pops out of the exhaust, pumps in more augmented engine noise through thr "soundaktor", tightens the steering, suspension, etc.

@@chai192 Just to clarify. "Travel Assist" is lane centering + adaptive cruise control. Lane Assist is if you drift out of your lane. Travel Assist can be turned off on the steering wheel, and lane assist is on the tip of that left stock.

They come with a sticky tack command-strip thing, but they fell off a few times mid-shift, so I ultimately gorilla glued them & they've been solid. If you do that, wear gloves 👌🏻 Before this, I tried different paddles (not extenders) from other brands, but none of them fit the module.
Black Forest Industries sells a set of paddle shifters. They require removal of the airbag core and the steering wheel trim. Better than the ones that stick to the back. You just need a pick, a mirror and an hour of time. Pricey, but worth it.
I used to have the stock Eagle Sport all seasons (and stock wheels, but I'm still on 18's). They were a bit loud for me. Now I have DWS 06 Plus, and they're noticeably quieter and more forgiving in terms of comfort, but I still get good road feel.
The Euro and international versions of the GTI/R come with numerous options the US doesn't get. They also have dual-injection whereas the US only gets direct injection (DI) which has carbon buildup over time. Dual-injection resolves that issue. They have also have more power as a result.

Oops, 19% VAT on new car purchases in Germany. So yeah, a 30k car car here can cost a lot more than you think.
I bought 2022 Gti MK 8 s and it has 9,600miles already but i have no issues at all it’s beautiful and reliable car. I owned 2019 mk7.5 gti as well with stage 2 tuned and i have no issues at all proven reliable car the GTI ..its fun especially when you tune its more fun and fast car..yes its reliable car i had no problem at all..
Cars nowadays are fairly competitive regarding reliability. Even Toyotas aren’t doing as well as they used to while the GTI is doing better than it used to. Anyway, I just wanted a small car without a CVT. So that means there’s extremely few choices.

Love my GTI and the mk8 platform, the golf R is looking juicy for a minor upgrade.
A tune would cost less if you don't need AWD, but yes the R is sick!

I'm a new to the gti, I just got my 23 GTI 40th anniversary and it's so much fun and coming from a 22 stinger gt-line this is way better handling car.

His car doesn't have an adjustable suspension. That's only on 40th and Autobahn versions.

In my experience, the gloss black coating on it scratches off as easily as a scratch off lottery ticket. You could always PPF it, though.

The light bar looks cool, but many experience condensation. As for the SE, the DCC would be my main interest, but the S Trim is the value play.

26mpg?? What fuel are you using in the US? We’re averaging 36-40mpg in the U.K. I got 43mpg on a long mway drive.
I'm lucky if I get above 16mpg. 87 back then. 93 now.

Was that auto emergency brake not super dangerous?
I turn mine off every drive. The car brake checked me once while trying to make a pass and that was enough for me!
