I admire your passion for film and TV. In fact, I'd like to say since first following your reviews of The Leftovers week by week, Since then, I've been inspired to venture deeper into the world which you've actually genuinely played a strong role in unveiling to me!
Keep up the great work! Hope all is well :)
Wow! That sincerely made my week! Thank you for sharing that, Nicolas!
One of the best reviewers on RUclips!
I completly agree with everything you said but I would give it a higher score. I really really enjoyed it... but I hope Nolans next movie will go back and be more emotional like Interstellar, Inception and Prestige 👌
Very excited to revisit and hoping my score goes up as well!
I missed your reviews very much! So glad to see you again! Great review!!!
Hey, hey! Yes indeed, it's been a minute! Glad to be back :)
When you said “I don’t want to sound arrogant but..” at the beginning of the video, I knew exactly what point you were about to make because I frequently find myself in that same position of taking my movie time more seriously as deep entertainment and thinking time than some of my friends or family. So thanks for the reaffirmation that I’m not alone in that, Chris!
You are most certainly not alone, good man! :)
I've been a subscriber since The Leftovers and just really appreciate his presence on here and look forward to his uploads.
Well, I appreciate _you_ too!
I wanted to drive my car home backward after this movie. I too felt like my world had changed. Cool.
I felt the _exact_ same way! Nolan gets into your head so successfully!
Fantastic review as always.
I just finished the movie and I'm still trying to figure parts out. Funny thing is, it wouldn't be half as convoluted without unnecessarily horrible audio mixing. Still, I absolutely enjoyed my experience. I completely agree that a bit more emotion would be very helpful, but I think actors were great enough to convey a lot with very little given to them.
At the end, the thing I respect the most is that this the blockbuster movie where director was given free reign to do whatever he wants.
Yes, yes, and yes! You FEEL that freedom and it's so refreshing!
Yes, the audio mixing is beyond awful. Just compare the exposition in this movie with the exposition in Inception, Inception is just so much clearer. I would advice every one watching this movie to not even try to understand anything they are talking. First: It's impossible Second: It's not necessary, because the visuals are enough to understand the story. And the motivations of the characters are either nonexistent or don't make a lot of sense anyways. But I'm still trying to understand the point of making every single conversation unintelligible.
Neil is Max.
That's where the heart of it comes from, but you don't know that as you're watching it the first time.
I love when movies and TV shows demand that you invest in everything. That you remember the little clue they gave back in the beginning. Stories that make you think about what it MIGHT have meant by that ambiguous scene. I don't need a story to tell me every little detail for me to enjoy it. Unfortunately, stories like these seem to be less popular.
It can be hard to strike that balance, especially when most of us want things spelled out and clearly communicated. We too easily get uncomfortable with questions, doubts, and uncertainty... which isn't great for the movies or for reality.
@@ChrisHartwell there have been a lot of complicated shows (that I was invested in) cancelled because of rating drops as a result of the story being "too complicated".
I'm not the smartest person ever, but when I watch a show, I watch and listen. I try to take it all in. That's what I love about the medium.
@@notoriousbmc1 Right there with ya.
A familiar face back on my feed! I appreciate the thoughtful review.
The Leftovers made me discover ur channel. Just here to let u know I really enjoy your videos !
Seeing it Thursday can’t wait!!
Hope you enjoy!
Really appreciate hearing your take on the movie, Chris. I've heard mix rumblings about the film thus far, but nothing that really takes away from my overall excitement of getting another Nolan flick to enjoy. Not sure, if I'll make it to a cinema, but I will certainly be catching one way or another.
As always, thank you sir. Take care!!
A line in the movie sums up all Nolan movies-"Don't try and think about it. Feel it." That's not a bad thing.
I just watched this yesterday at the IMAX because of your recommendation Chris and ... WOW.
I've genuinly never seen anything like this in a movie before. How does Nolan do it?!
The IMAX definitely enhanced it for me. The thumping music during those action scenes was amazing!
Great job :)
Thank you much!
I feel like you're the only reviewer on RUclips who knows how to criticize a film while still enjoying it. With this film especially, most people on here seem to love it or hate it.
Are you saying Tenent? Anyway I completely agree with your assessment of Tenet. I wonder how much more I'll appreciate it after a second watch.
BTW I totally thought Neil was Cat's son the entire time and I am not convinced he is not😂
I think he definitely is.
Invert: Maximilien.
First 4 letters are Neil...
@@PeedgeMcDuck awesome! I LOVE A GOOD NUGGET LIKE THAT!
Nice
Haha yes Ludwig is his real name - it’s pretty common in Sweden 😊 and no, it’s not really the right pronounciation of ”Göransson” but I haven’t heard a single american pronounce it correct. It’s a very Swedish name 😅
I loved your review as always but in the case of Nolan i am totally against some general thoughts about him. I totally respect the guy, he can do a good spectacle and their movies have some great ideas in it. He is one of the few directors who can do an original blockbuster film BUT i dont think he is that good as a storyteller. A complex movie doesnt have to be hard to understand. Thats is what a good filmaker do. Iam against the notion of that you have to be smart to follow it or saying Nolan is a genius and i am not so i couldnt follow it. Why is always our fault? Why nobody thinks that maybe Is Nolan who is failing? Inception had some great ideas but as a story is a mess. 80 percent of the dialog is exposition. The movies tries to explain itself constantly. That is not good storytelling. You will laugh but take a movie like groundhog day wich didnt need to use that kind of weird dialog to explain a time travel loop. And people get it. That is genius! Watchmen is a complex book. It follows different eras and characters but still people can follow it to the end. Maybe some will not dig it but they will understand whats happening. You can have a ton of questions about the ambigous elements and meanings but not about the basic plot. I am pro movies which ask audience participation but when you read and see 1000 reviews and everybody agress that the movie is hard to follow. Well in that case maybe is not our fault
Ok.
Agreed on the emotional level. I feel it lacks heart, and it feels a bit cold. I feel like this has become a trend for Nolan's films since Dunkirk was similar in a way. The characters feel more like vessels to serve the story. With all of that said, it was a blast seeing a movie like this in theaters again. I really enjoyed myself, especially when looking over to my friend who would shake his head every five minutes :P
Is it just as confusing as PRIMER?
I didn't try to figure things out too deep the first time around because everything was happening so fast that it would have just distracted me. I just went for the ride Nolan was taking me on and really enjoyed the experience. 4/5
Tenet is in fact a confusing movie. The writers were clever by half.
yikes dude I think your way off base in this review. This movie is a total convoluted mess
