Exactly the kind of video I’d be looking for! No talk, just side-by-side comparisons, stock equipment, and a tune most guitarists are familiar with. Would have loved to hear more bridge pickup sounds though.
    Thanks!

Kt88 for me. The clarity they have allows me to hear more of the guitar and less of the amp...if that makes any sense.

They all sound good. I wish more players still set their Marshalls for this kind of tone - rough, tweedy, and woofy! Ever since EVH it’s all about tight smooth and gainy.

same with metal amps- I love setting my ENGL Ironball to clean low gain and get a nice chimey Vox tone and can also get a Marshall Plexi crunch tone even though ENGL is better known as a high gain metal monster amp.

I own both 50 watt & 100 watt .It's hard to explain but the difference between the two are extreme. The 50 watters are easy to control where the 100 watter is a force of nature.

I've run a set up for years, it's in a stereo set up through an Earthquaker swiss things pedal. Amp "A" is a 89 Carvin X50B with 4x12 cab and amp "B" is a Marshall jcm800 4010 combo. The Carvin I switched the tubes from el34's to 6L6 and the Marshall has El34's. It's a big sound with huge frequency spread. The Carvin provides all the low end "boom & woof" and the Marshall provides all the mid range and high end cut. If your able to do such a set up, I recommend it! It's alot of fun.

This is the only video on RUclips that truly shows the difference between these power tubes. Everyone else just talks but you show it in a mix, on its own, everything.
I've re-watched this multiple times because it's hard to hear the differences sometimes and my ear tastes change. Anyway... Thanks a ton

I totally dig the KT88 mod on a plexi now that I learned about it and understand why, now that you can hear it in this video t solidifies my understanding of modding a JCM with KT88’s.. I prefer 6L6 personally but thats just my personal choice. I understand why a lot of player like for example Billy Corgan did this mod. I got it in my ears thanks to you my good man. Thank you.

In order, really liked the KT88, EL34 & EL84 (EL84 was a surprise) then 6L6. KT88 sounded great. Nice demo providing a good overview. Would have been awesome to be in the room at the time..............with ear plugs no doubt.

the two greenbacks playing in the room was a total of 25w, so no ear plugs needed... the other speakers were isolated in a closet to help keep volume levels useable : )

@@guitarmedia3623 Hey man, love your videos. Quick question: did you have to change to mod the 100W to accomodate the KT88? Did you simply had to change the bias resistor and rebias the tube to the same value you would do for El34?

@@troyredford149 having the ability to change output tubes in vintage marshall jmp amplifiers without changing the output tube pinout, bias or output transformer was something I stumbled across dealing with counterfeit amplifiers... (finding out they were running stable with the wrong output transformer)...after an in depth study i found that these circuits were originally designed to run with 5881's then el34's and finally 6550's...this helped me to understand that it's ok as long as the pinout is (compatible) in the amp...el34 is a pentode type 6l6 is a tetrode type so the pinout in these tubes are not the same!
!warning! you are dealing with 500v so you need to have a really good understanding before trying to change your valve type.
the reason i cannot answer your question directly, is because i don't know how to read a schematic. this is why i googled many output tube pinout photos in order to verify that the grounding was compatible in these vintage amps. in other words, if i can see it, i can tell after several cross references...it also helps to understand that 6l6 tubes have a much bigger number window in every way are also much more stable and more forgiving than el34's or el84's all the numbers involved with these tubes are much closer in order for them to operate safely...do more research (i hope this helps)
