The Chinese Navy can easily impose a sea blockade on the Philippines without US assistance. While the Philippines might be capable on land, they lack sufficient ships, making it nearly impossible to compete at sea. Moreover, the Philippines cannot build a large navy because its economy has been weak in recent years. Even if the Philippines were to allocate most of its budget to the military, it would still not be enough to fight against China. And what would happen to social projects if the Philippines took this route? I don't mean to undermine the Philippines; I would love to see a strong Philippines working together with Vietnam to protect the Southeast Sea. However, both countries are currently not strong enough to fight China alone.

The United States was spending easily between 8 to 10% of its GDP on Defense during the Cold War. That should be the target for the Philippines.
