Been going to Grand Isle every summer my whole life of nearly 40 years. Grandpa bought a trailer there in the 70's. Katrina smashed it. We got a new one in its place on stilts. This video makes me want to cry. The island is so small and fragile, yet so vital to so many.
@@Thyalwaysseek the news said 100% of the structures were destroyed or badly damaged. I have been watch drone footage and that is why youtube recommended this video. There were no trailers left on stilts only a handful of houses with steel roof were still standing but they looked bigger than a trailer and all of them had damage too.
I enjoyed this peaceful video. It brings back lots of memories of 30-40 years ago when we lived in La and took our kids and my dad to Grand Isle, mostly to fish. My son and I would love to make another trip down there. I feel the trout and reds calling!
I remember seeing those breakers out in the ocean when i visited almost 20 years ago. What a beautiful place it was. This is how i will always remember it. It is a shame it was just completely destroyed by hurricane ida.
They should turn this entire island into a portable tiny house island. So whenever there is a storm, people can just hitch up their tiny homes and take it somewhere safe. That way, all they have to do when they return is shovel off the concrete pad and utility connections and re hook them up to the systems. It would be possible, force people to evacuate and take all their lawn stuff with them too, so there is no debris left behind or very little.
I am now seventy five years old, l grew up on the island. What a great life I've had !!!
i lost a buddy of mine that grew up here, never knew how beautiful it was. may he rest easy. till we meet again budd. 🙏

Did your new place survive Ida?
