@lukakiwi You can purchase the film from FacetsDVD - there is a link to the product webpage in the video info above. It is in Czech with English subtitles.
One of funniest movies, unfortunately: 1. You must/should know something from history - to understand, why Sveik and other characters act as they do. Some of them are dead serrious while others are not... . 2. Language used in movies is kinda more complicated than one (czech) used in normal talk. For example using czech variants of german words (not used in normal conversation any more). That alone is creating many funny situations - but translate it properly is sometimes impossible... .
Yes, Švejk was so good with goodwill that he "agreed" and "admitted" everything of their arrogance and stupidity. :)))) He put political correctness to reality.
@@blurryart1898 There was no such thing as Czechoslovakia back then. Slovaks lived in the Hungarian part of the Empire whereas Czechs in the Austrian part.
hey, do you americans have even dubbing? I didn't see in my life any non-english movie in english dub! well, in this case it's better, cuz nothing is better than Czech language (maybe only Japanese... but in Japanese is everything best :D)
One of the best movies ever made! I pity all of you who cant understand this beautiful language.
Spectans1 Czech language
Beg to report, that you're right! I understand, cuz I'm Slovak and we know each other.
Why we all speak english when we all are Czech or Slovak? 😂😂😂

The Good Soldier Svejk. Takes place in Czechoslavkia in WWI when it was part of the Austria-Hungarian empire. They are speaking German and Czech.
It takes place in Czechia or you may call it Bohemia there was nothing like Czechoslovakia in Austria-Hungary

i dont find this special edition of that movie from the 50s in german, but only the black/white with heinz rühmann. thanks.
What happened to the English-subtitles.? I was enjoying this
Svejk taught me love Austria-Hungary Empire.
But the story and Svejk himself are both scathing critiques of the Austro-Hungarian Empire
@@victimedelamode1 Yes, but hadn't it been for the Austro-hungarian empire, we would have never been able to enjoy Svejk's story, would we?
