- This thing is running so good now. Just needed some love. A little bit of carb attention. A little bit of Electrical attention. Ready to hit the lake and I do not mean me.

Thanks so much for the videos on TOP....I just bought a 1986 Mariner 90hp and have the exact same problem...leaking fuel from carb intake...left us stranded on lake the other day...hopefully can find the rebuild kits as appear to be out of stock.....thanks again!
Sorry to hear that you got stranded. it does happen. it is getting harder to find the rebuild kits for these things. i did a search for a few other viewers and most of them are sold out. I will keep looking and if I can find them I will add the links to the description. i have found out that you will get a few drips out of the carb intake even after a fresh rebuild but it should not be as much as i was seeing. 2 out of the 3 floats were full of gas. And don't forget the floats are sold sperate.
Got all sorts of things to try on my 115 now. Thanks for the tips.
I did learn a lot on the tower of power. :) it runs so good. As long as you put gas in it. They are thirsty. This is on our sister channel. ruclips.net/video/HZ9Li8P3btY/видео.html
Thanks for the watch and good luck.
I have that exact same outboard 1986 mercury
115hp and it flies when it works.thanks for the tiips. Those carbs were scarring me.
All good. Once i rebuilt the carbs and replaced the stater. This thing runs like a champ. I love this thing. I do not see you having issues. Some of the screws might be stuck but take your time..
Also you can check the health by doing a compression test.

good luck
Thanks for the video. Attacking carb rebuild next week. Got two leaking and prime bulb never gets solid. Boats runs decent but starting takes for ever and she’s down about 10 mph from where it was before.
Good luck. The job is not as bad as some people think. I took mine out yesterday for some fishing. Ran beautifully. Quick to start, quick take off. I even got a few looks from other fishermen with beautiful new boats. :)
Don't worry you got this.
I have a 85-87 mariner 115hp it idles great, did a carb clean and it runs smooth but bogs down when I hit the throttle.
Sorry to hear about your issue. I am sure you will be able to get this thing running reliably.
The next step you can try is to test out your stator. Most of it can be done with a basic Ohm meter.
ruclips.net/video/jlfrhwPYYV0/видео.htmlsi=N9nNmXFt3tSX0Cpv
Try this video. you will need to lookup the readings for your mariner since it might be a bit different from the tower of power.
Good luck and let me know what you find out.
I have a murc 115, did a full overhaul on it. Now it will start and run just fine in my driveway, but as soon as it's under load on the water it doesn't want to punch it.
I would start at the wires from the Stater. Two wires are for idle and low RPM and once it goes to higher RPM the other two will kick in. Here is chart that should have your engine in there.
www.outboardignition.com/page39.asp
Mine were 5800ish ohms on the low side and 7000ish ohms on the high side.
Check them out and let me know.
good luck
Dude, don't be bombed when you're doing a tutorial, it's gross.
I have a 1979 mercury 90hp cant find oil dipstick am i missing something thanks for your video and help!
Sorry for the delay. I was in the woods with the scouts and did not have fancy internet. :) These engines are 2 cycle so the oil is in the fuel. Most of these outboards come with an automatic oiler. Mine has been taken out so I mix it with the gas when I fill it. Now you do need to be aware of the lower unit oil level. ruclips.net/video/soekr7hXi1g/видео.htmlsi=PAB9DSwSoHq3LhAu
Where can I get new floats needles and seat? Gaskets etc? Thanks.
Sorry for the delay. I was at summer Camp with the scouts.
I picked up mine from wholesalemarine.com
A lot of them are sold out. Check to see if this will work.

Best way it to reference your S/N
is this much different than the 115s from the early 90s? i got one and running nice now, but curious about longevity and repairability
ah well spoke too soon definitely different, mine is 4 cylinder
what up. Sorry I have been out of town for a bit. There were a few changes. but the basics should be close. Love the tower of power. Took it out this morning and it ran better then the 4 strokes at the dock.
Good luck.
The Floats in my 1984 115, used to somehow get cockeyed in the Fuel Bowl and jam. Often a few Love Taps with a Hammer would free the stuck Float. For some reason the Pickup Timing, when set to spec, would always result in a Bog and Stall. The Dealer, with the Merc Service Rep, went far off the Spec to get it to run Correctly.
That happens. I am happy to say mine doesn't get stuck. I did gave two out of the three have holes in them. I live the way she runs now. I just need to find more time to go fishing
thanks for the jar model look long time to find out what model is it stater gif problems but will Fikes it an try sort it out not lot info on net for 6 Sellinders straits.
Man I have a 1986 115 like yours. I checked compression and it has 75 lbs on all six holes. Seem low but if worn how can every hole read the same
Sorry for the delay. I just checked my over the weekend and should have a video out soon. All 6 holes came out to be about 110 for each. 75 does seem low. Interesting that all 6 are the same. i will try to grab some time to do more research.
If you can borrow one you should try a different compression tester.
Atleast they are all the same psi lol.
Just found out I should have checked with throttle wide open. I did not. Maybe that's the issue
I just acquired a boat with the same motor. I've not done much work at all on a boat motor but my buddy that does says it's missing some parts. Can you point me in the direction where to get parts for it at?
Good luck with your tower of power. What kind of parts are you missing?
There are a few places I go too.

Just make sure you have the S/N.
@@5LakesGarage thank you so much! Enjoyed the video, I'm sure I'll have to watch it many more times lol
@@5LakesGarage as far as missing parts I'm not sure yet, I'm taking it to my buddy's at some point to try to figure it out.
You can watch it as many times as you want. :) got a entire playlist of engine, wiring, etc.

Good luck and keep us posted.
hi can you tel me wat model is jour 115 power head moter
it is a 1986 Mercury 115. I have not been able to find the exact S/N to get more specific. I do plan on doing some more investigation when I bring it out of winter storage. Hope that helps
I have 90 hp 79 modle that runs perfect in the yard but when I put it in river it doesn't run good at all won't go over 2 or 3 miles pH wonder what it could be
i would start with the Stator. it has two levels on them. one for idle and low rev and another for higher revs. Try this video. ruclips.net/video/jlfrhwPYYV0/видео.html
Still could be a fuel issue. Not sure on the 79 model but mine has a diaphragm fuel pump and it just works off of vibration.
Excellent video. I have a 1987 115 on a 17ft 1968 whaler. I am having an issue of it stalling when I go from neutral into gear. It is also having an issue with flooding. Would those two issues be related? I have always loved the way these engines look and sound.
They could be related. I would start with the carb first. Running too rich would cause issues. Once the flooding issue is sorted and it still stalls when going in gear, I would then start checking trigger, and stater
ruclips.net/video/jlfrhwPYYV0/видео.html
hope this helps
I have this same issue. Where did you get your rebuild kits for these carbs? Do you have part numbers?
Mine are still running strong. I hope to burn out the carbon out this weekend. :). it appears that these things are out of stock all over the place.
I did find this one.
www.westmarine.com/sierra-18-7021-carburetor-kit-for-mercury-mariner-outboard-motors-495319.html
Just make sure your part number on your carbs match what is on the site.
Good luck and hit me up if you have any questions.
I changed my needles and seats after actualy watching this video lol but it still leaks fuel.. when shutting it off.. does yours still leak fuel?
It leaks a little bit but nothing as it did. It would make a puddle before. I think it is coming from the "choke" system. The hoses that are on top of the carbs. It is not leaking enough to worry about.
@@5LakesGarage I purchased a 1987 115hp. The guy I bought it from mounted it on the boat and we took it out. It was dying at idle and leaking fuel. When he took the carb off, two of the three floats were full of fuel. The one that was not full of fuel was black and the other two were varnished white plastic looking and hollow allowing fuel to get it. He took the carbs out, bought two new floats, and brought them back. We took it out and it looked to have solved some of the problem. Now it is sitting in my driveway and it looks like the top carb is still dripping fuel. Any suggestions?
@@crateandbarrels how much is it leaking. I found that the "choke" enricher will have a little fuel left in the hose and it will leak out. it is not much but enough to see it. I have not worried about it much since it is not pouring out like it used too.
Hi, new subscriber here. I have an '86 90hp 'ToP', I'm assuming these are the same carbs? They look exactly the same.
I believe they are the same. There is a S/N on the carb to match up for the rebuild kit.
I love these engines. One of the easiest setups to work on. And they just work. (most of the time). I am trying to get time off of work long enough to "blow out the carbon" :)
Good luck
Hi can you send me the link for all this parts please how much its cost and what is your hydrofoil on your motor se sport 300 or 400 ?
Sup, it is a 400 hydrofoil. Works pretty well.

Amazing how much prices went up for some of this stuff. I did not have to replace all of it but figured why I was in there, I might as well do it.
I hope this helps.
@@5LakesGarage thanks for all this infos its gonna help me alots
No worries. Good luck. I did have an issue with the starter today. Thinking it is a ground that I have to track down. I hope to have a video out on it in a few days. Will see if I have time to get to it. .
Thanks for posting this, I’m having a problem starting mine if it sits for like a week. After u rebuild the carb, how did u sink the carbs together
@@WEBER801 The way mine is set up all three cars share a central shaft. Not like some others I have seen. These were pretty easy. I have had times where I flood it out if I am not careful.
Where can I find this kit
i picked up the carbs kits from Wholesale marine

The floats

There are slight differences in models. make sure the number on the bottom of the carbs match the kit.
Good luck
you got links for those rebuild kits etc?
Sorry about that. i guess that would help. Now these fit my carb. Cross check to make sure they will fit yours.

What is the ratio you use for your 115 outboard tower fuel mix?
I am about a 50:1. about 13ish oz per 5 gallons. I am not sure that i will be putting the auto injector back in. 5 gallons at a time seems to work out.
What tool did you use to get the 2 bolts holding the carb to the engine off? None of my wrenches or sockets will fit. Thank you
i have a 7/16 or 11 mm box end that is only 4 inches long. Once it was broken free I was able to spin it off with my fingers. it is not in the most convenient spot. Would of been good we could put a socket on it.
I loved my tower of power I had 87
So far the tower of power is one of the best I have worked on. Easy and so far reliable. Love it.
motor crank on but cant find no spark key get lost cant find key number for controls think is ignition that not put that put not soleniod on
Sorry it took so long to get back to you. This guy is pretty good.
ruclips.net/video/IxOAgMUnrFI/видео.html
I did not go into this much of a deep dive on it due to that fact that I had so much corrosion on everything I replaced it all.
Good luck. We have to get this running so we all can keep fishing.
