  • Carol Burnett affected me deeply as a child when I used to watch her on television. I had no idea that as an adult it would become far more personal and profound for me.

Well, if it's any consolation, Eunice didn't just help you see the humor in your own mother, as per Miss Burnett herself, she helped HER relate to her late tragic angsty mother Louise Creighton Burnett (1911-1958). When they first proposed 'The Family' skits, they originally thought to have Miss Burnett do the part of Mama but something about Eunice drew her and I can't help but think it was cathartic for her- though even THAT would pale compared to when she wrote the book then the play about her childhood, parents and grandmother in which she found herself having far more understanding and empathy for Louise than she had when she was growing up.
Miss Burnett has always seemed as though she'd be a great friend to have if one had reason to know her- to say nothing of being a fantastic dramatic performer and comedienne!
Thanks for sharing that with us!

You are so lucky to be born in The Greatest Generation shadow, Carol Burnett is one of the nicest people on television ever right. My thanks to G-D for finding your channel. 😊

Something i have always found to be remarkable is that Carol claimed she always portrayed Eunice as a straight dramatic character and that the laughs came only from the dialogue in the scripts. Thank you for your lovely comments.

She's such a treasure, and I'm so glad you met her and that it was healing for you -- what a wonderful story! (I wrote to her last year and never heard back -- but I realize she must receive hundreds of thousands of letters...). I love that the universe responded to your call and provided the warm and compassionate encounter you had with Carol with such perfect timing! Thanks for sharing this, Chuck -- and on her birthday! :-)

That's right! It's also the anniversary of Lucy's passing which Miss Burnett will NEVER forget because hours after Lucy left this world, Miss Burnett received flowers with a card from her for Miss Burnett's 56th Birthday which read 'Happy Birthday, Kid!' .

@@wardarcade7452 Yes! I've heard Carol Burnett share that story, and thank you for adding it here. Lucy's my other favorite redhead!

That's an incredible story. What a blessing to meet her on any occasion but right after your mom passed? I'm happy that Carol was so lovely and helped you in your grief. I really appreciate your sharing because I watched Carol Burnett as a child and loved the companionship the show gave me.
