I love AR. I'm amazed at the quality of the recording - my VHS tapes from the early 1990s are very rough. I have been enjoying the fashion of the times. I didn't remember there being that big a difference between then and now, but people did dress differently back then. You have made me very happy, VHS UK. Thanks!
Indeed - people actually took the care to dress! It's wonderful to see (though slightly depressing when one considers the scarcity of suits, ties, and dresses in the present era.)
No wonder why I can't find a Chatelaine in America, this guy has them all, I really want one bad, I collect Victorian items and work as a Housekeeper, one of these is perfect for me.
Philip Hook says around 39:00 that 1830 is the date of the restoration of the French monarchy. Not quite - the Bourbon monarchy was restored in 1814 at the defeat of Napoleon. 1830 is when the "july revolution" took the Bourbon monarchy out (the last king being Charles X) and replaced it with the "July Monarchy" under a different king, Louis Philippe.
I love the British reactions when they receive the value of their items, calm and demure as opposed to the American responses which can be over the top and always a" wow" most times. The British a much more refined group, I must say.
It is true that it was the fashion that if a dog had stillborn pups in the litter, the taxidermist made them into ornaments and attached the story of it being a numbers of years old. Not a lot of people would have bought it knowing it was a stillborn. It was during the science curiosity time and sold better as an oddity.
It never ceases to amaze me how the most beautyful materials can be turnd into the most horrible looking things. Like your "Almelew". You can tell us whatever you like - it does not make it handsome.

I love the look on the woman's face as she found that the little desk was a fake!!!
Ha! That's what I thought. Very disapproving! If he'd said it was worth £10,00 she would still be pissed off. And he kept rubbing it in!

You must not have spent much time in Britain! I think if anything, this is a generational difference.
@@lalochka3578 Perhaps so, but none the less quite refreshing.
That tiny dog? How could it possibly be real!!??
