Great summer anthem from this group from Illinois. The group originally released the disc on the LUV label out of Detroit and it then got picked by Warners, who helped drive it to #90 on the Hot-100 in August, 1972.
Dave Bickler, who sang lead on “Summer Sun” moved on to join Survivor, while the rest of the group renamed themselves Mariah and moved to the West Coast. They returned to Chicago and eventually called it a day. - Видеоклипы
Listened to this band playing in storage unit on front St..yup that little kid was me.Set me on rock n roll path for the rest of my life!! Thanks guys.!!
Sounds like a cross between Chicago and America. Very popular sound in 1972. Surprised it wasn’t a bigger hit.
Favorite song!! My Dad, Lenny was one of the guitar players and vocalists. Miss him. Love that this is on RUclips!
This song should be part of a 70's Compilation. Billboard or Time Life etc.
1972, whew. Listening in 2023. Hearing this again for the first time FIFTY YEARS LATER!
This version has the clearest sound quality I've ever heard. Thanks for showing related knowledge as well.
These guys played at my sisters wedding reception. That was June 1973. It was excellent. They were from around Downers Grove, IL.. My brother in laws brother Bruce knew them and that was his wedding gift to Bev and Ralph. That was a great night. Open bar and a lot of dancing. Sad to say that was the only good thing out of that marriage.
OOps.
Those kinds of marriages took p!ace throughout history. Thank God for no fault divorce laws despite their flaws. Sometimes the best and only option is to split up sooner than later---I knew mine was a mistake eight months into it, but stayed way longer.
Same here barely a year
@@msr1116 it was a great reception a little drinking and a lot of dancing. Jamestown was great.
Cool tune! And the beginnings of one of the greatest vocalists of all time!...Dave Bickler rocks!
i agre 4 first survivor records are great
Dave Bickler ❤️
love this song
Great song...I can remember this being played on the radio in New Zealand 1972
I remember going to high school dances and this song would play. Track really takes me back. THANK YOU!
We All need more of this type of Happy Music --> Thanks for posting :-)
I never heard of this group but they sure remind me of the group Chicago.
They're actually from a suburb of Chicago! (Downers Grove, IL, to be exact.)
@@10acious_D I don't think we need to make a big to do about it.
@@MIKECNW oh yes DG is the greatest. So many wonderful memories.
@@10acious_D I grew up in DG and went to DGN.
Love you ❤
This great track I heard locally in Ohio in 1972 but never had a chance to purchase due to low chart position, I found in a second hand shop in 1980. I bought three copies. I Played it to others who never heard it in 1972-they loved it. The record buying public missed the boat on this one. This instantly removes you from the blues or depression.
How does the fact it was low charting have any affect on you purchasing it?
@@MIKECNW Prolly not stocked in local stores.
@@MIKECNW .....record shops in those days were sometimes small storefronts. Limited space for albums, and singles came and went every week. Lots of 45s disappeared quickly if not selling well, which made a few rarities quite valuable. Led Zep's Hey Hey What Can I Do was lost for many years except the lucky few who bought it in 1970 and radio stations of course had it. It was finally put on a CD twenty years later.
@@MIKECNW
This was in the Billboard 100 the year this was released. I don't think we can call that low charting.
@@Riri-oj1zs I didn't say it was! Don't respond if you can't read my reply correctly.
I heard this gem a lot on Chicago radio stations during 1972. Fabulous song, awesome memories! Yeah, sounds a lot like the lead singer from Chicago. Released on July 29, 1972, reaching # 90 on September 9. Only #90? What a travesty. I still believe it was Top 10 material.
There were probably other songs from that time that didn't. Can't expect everything to but at least now we can listen to it here and other can discover it who haven't before.
I learned recently it was a hit in Hawaii and a band from there called "Greenwood" covered it. Check them out.
Indeed This is an uptempo "Suavacitio" in my opinion. The 1972 record buying public were morons:_)
I believe that this fine record might have done better if the band chose a different name. The friendly vibe of the record is quite at odds with the tragedy that surrounded that violent event of long ago. (Sad to say, but there may be some truth to this--with some people in the Warner Brothers A&R department.)
@@truethought62 Very true. Filly agreed. People do not want to be reminded of nasty events.
@@musiccollector--BTW--I am originally from the Chicago area--I remember hearing this song on the local stations a few times back then.
I had this 45 back in the day.
I've always loved this song. Just found out, their bass player, Gary Manata, played in the same group I did earlier. Gary, if you're out there, Frank, the Rhythm Guitar player from The Banshees, Acolytes, says hello!
Was a junior in high school here in Chicago when this sound came out. Awesome vocals and rhythm section. And, that ending!
What a great song!
Missed this song somehow back in my teen-age years. Thanks for posting!
Yeah .. This tune did get quite a bit
of airplay here in Southern New England.
It was one of the favorites at that time.
I always thought this was the Doobie Brothers until a few years ago.
GREAT record - thanks for posting.
Dave Bickler. What a vocalist. He got recruited by a trash band afterwards.
This lead could probably do a great job on Orpheus songs.
even came out in the united kingdom that summer of 1972
hmm interesting name for a band lol
Yeah, you'd think with a name like "Jamestown Massacre" they'd write more hard rock numbers. But absolutely love this upbeat, chair-dancing happy tune! This song was really popular in Hawaii in the 70's!!
Why isn’t this song somewhere that it can be downloaded?
35年くらい探していますが、レコードでもCDでも見つかりません。RUclipsz様様です。
ワーナーポップロックナゲッツvol.5というアルバム(CD)に収録されています。ご参考にどうぞ。
Love this! John Gilleran, rhythm guitarist and vocalist in the JM - still playing and singing...check it out www.artisticlicensehawaii.com. youtube channel same name.
