I commute with a heavy load after years of running 53 39 and 12 27 10 speed I now run full mtb triple front and 10 speed 12-28 rear. The difference is amazing and makes my commute more fun. People look down on the granny gear until they got a ton of load and had to go up a steep hill.
+Justmyopinionlol it's nice to have a light gear when you want. But the 40-36 is not much different (if any) than a 34-28. The simplicity of 1x in the front is awesome though and I rarely spin out the 40-11

I'm currently in the process of piecing together a Frankenbike to handle city streets, dirt/gravel roads and be comfortable to ride for long distance treks. It's a KHS Urban Xcape flat bar bike with a 28/38/48 chainring set, Shimano Megarange 11-34t cassette, double-walled rims and 700X35 tires. I've added a Jones Loop H-Bar and Topeak rear rack. So far, I like the way it feels given I only had time to do a short test ride. I like the way things are coming together on this ride.

Looks really stylish. I'm about to convert my '03 Saracen Morzine to a riser bar. It's already a 1x8 speed and I use a 48t crankset with a 28-11t cassette and has worked just fine as a commuter for many years. I've never liked the ITM europa bars because the drops are too low and also don't extend far back enough, so I'm always on the hoods or the tops.
LiveFreeandShred Gotcha. If you could go narrower, would you? I just always associate narrow bars with speed, wide ones for negotiating technical terrain.
I too have an m2 stumpy Can I use the deore groupset with the shifters crank the lot . I took my Kona lav back when Specialized dropped the price. That was the last multi purpose bike made . It determines the high of your handle bars. See how low to the frame your bars are in the video? I’m trying to improve the height of that with increase the distance from the frame.. less stress on my back.
780mm wide bar? Really? How does it handle tho? Better then drop bar? Thinking of going 60mm stem and maybe 740mm or 760mm for daily commuting from home to work with 2x10 105 groupset. Reckon that will work?
i did something like this... with a '70 Atala roadbike frame, a triple chainring Biopace from '80, a pair of '90 Mavic wheels, a mixed cogs Campagnolo/Shimano cassette, and 3ttt 2000 handlebar! My one is a little heavier than yours, i guess :-D :-D

What kind of stupid fucking comment is that ?
@livefreeandshred9818
You're funny.
Don't let your lack of knowledge in physiology, geometry and physics stop you from doing what you're doing.

I like it a lot. Good job!
Thanks
Great looking bike..now I have an idea to follow
That is one baddas looking bike I really like that conversion I am contemplating doing it myself to my Gravel bike
It was a great bike while I had it
That's a cool bike, love it
Thinking of converting my 2020 domane to a flat bar due to b ack problems. Did video made my day. Nice bike and good job

Very nice build. Thanks for sharing.
Looks sexy but what's up with that super wide handle bar. On fast descent you might start flying with such wingspan...
+michwoz had the bars. Don't want to cut them. Might use them for an xc build
Yeah but I bet he can Bunny Hop like a boss at high speed.

yeah because it is terrible
Hi. Hope you're still monitoring this but can I ask what shifter you used there? Can't quite make it out in the video. Thanks.

did swapping the flat bars make the bike a bit Twichie ?
