0:04 Personally I think it would have been better served if it was in the land around the Howard Frankland bridge so that people from Tampa and all those areas plus the people from Pinellas could see games. If people love their team and can afford it they'll go to a game and you don't see that in the Rays stadium unless the Yankees or Boston are playing. Personally the seats that I could afford wouldn't show me anything and I'd rather watch it on my big screen TV at home

I wish that the people of Pinellas County could have got a 1% rebate on the profits that Ray's are going to be making..we as taxpayers deserve something in return, financially....from the Ray's...why is it that goverment can't be making any money on corporate investments !!!! If it wasn't for taxpayers money the project would not have happened !!!! Right...

This is nuts. The Rays don't have the fan base to support this. I was at a Yankees v Rays game on the 10th. The fan base was easily 75/25 Yankee fans. You could hear them in the stands every time a good play was made. For Ray's good plays there were literal crickets... and with good reason. The pathetic response from the Ray's fans said it all.
This plan should have been brought in Tampa (As their name says) perhaps at the Fairgrounds area where many more could come from tows like Lakeland, Ocala, etc. No many want to drive through Tampa to see the Rays.

*Here is the problem the TAMPA BAY Rays have... they play in ST PETE!! ST PETE is NOT TAMPA... many people in Tampa will NOT support them due to that fact. As well many in ST PETE won't support them because their name is TAMPA!!! Rename them the Tampa/St Pete Rays and you might get more attendance! This has ALWAYS been the problem! I've lived here for 43 years now and I've been all over both cities so believe me when I tell you what the problem is.*

    • @TheDevilHydraProdsXXII

They're the Tampa BAY Rays, it refers to the entire Tampa Bay area. They're not the Tampa Rays, kind of like how they're not the Tampa Lightning, they're the Tampa Bay Lightning, or Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

  • @abovebeyondandforever6571

The rays cant even get people to come out now, theyre certainly not going to fill the seats in a new stadium. Fix the team! They suck, wasting 6.5 billion on a lousy team is not the answer.

It's all about the money. Not the sport. Rays have a low fan base, mostly because of their location. I'm a veteran and have many veterans friends. We get offers for free Rays games
all the time. There are many programs to give away tickets to veterans. I have been to a few games but it's a struggle. I've rejected so many free tickets (some offers are for 4 tickets) so many times over the years, and its all because of the "location". It's on the south tip of St. Pete. Call the team the "St. Pete Rays", because to go to a game from Brandon, Valrico, or from Wesley Chapel, or from Riverview area, or even North Tampa, Lutz, Land O Lakes areas, it takes a day of planning, full tank of gas, leave early from work to account for 1 to 2hrs drive (in afternoon rush traffic over one of the bridges/causeways spanning the bay). Can't stop to eat something because you'll be late to the game, so you eat there. $10 dry hotdog and $12 soda/beer. It's a hassle and takes from the experience of going to enjoy a game. If the Rays (the owners $$$) cared about attendance they would build it in a centralized location within Tampa proper. The Ybor plan was perfect, right dead smack in the center of ALL of the TAMPA BAY residents. That would've double the attendance, at least! An easier drive for 70-80% of the Tampa Bay area footprint residents. It's all location, location and location. But no, their default considerations are politics and money, the heck with the fans. 😑

I don't think you realize how many stadiums are located away from major population centers, and yet they still sell out. The Rays have sold out plenty of times before, but Tropicana Field itself is so unbearable and bad, nobody wants to be there. Give them a better stadium and people will start showing up.
