This looked great (of course). I’ve used pan pastels for a few years as a base for color pencil pieces. Your kneaded eraser is the best way to remove pan pastels. I love mixing new colors on a sheet of printer paper like you would on a pallet. Sadly you do need to use fixative because over time the pastels will fall off. Clairefontaine or Spectrafix are best as they don’t affect the color or add a finishing texture like gloss or matt.

Very beautiful! Now I have a great way to experiment with the pan pastels just sitting in my closet!!

I have an artist friend who combines watercolors and pastels all of the time. Thanks for showing us your experiments. Now I have an even longer art supply wish list!!!

It would be neat to see these tested out on white paper with a variety of watercolor techniques.

Wow! Interesting. Always wondered about those! Never thought about using them with watercolors. Love this. Now I have to go buy some.😀

Love seeing this useful exploration! I was curious about how Panpastels would work with dreamy watercolours - very well! I am pleasantly surprised about how it layers so well. Thankyou for sharing.

That looks really good. I have pan pastels, but have never used them. Do you think that anything extra is needed to be done to make the pastels “permanent” on the watercolor? Like, would it need to be wetted or have a fixative applied? Do you think it would hold up on its own without having to do either of those? Thanks!
