  • Going back to a time when there was no such thing as freeze drying - canning was the best option. Because of Harvest Right, a lot of people that grew up working alongside their parents or grandparents canning and bottling fruits and vegetables are now turning to freeze drying. It's much easier, the food lasts longer, and the nutrition and flavor are locked in. Even 25 years later, the food is just like it was the day you freeze dried it.
Freeze drying vs canning: Freeze drying is extremely easy. Just prepare the food and place it in the freeze dryer. Freeze drying is able to preserve the nutrition of food because it removes the water from food at -40 to -50, whereas dehydrating uses heat to remove the water from food which destroys about half of the food's nutrition. Plus, freeze drying allows you to preserve full meals, all of your own recipes of casseroles, soups, you name it. Plus, you can do raw and cooked meat that can be rehydrated to be like they were fresh. You can do all of your dairy products like cheese, yogurt, ice cream, and even cheesecake. And, all of it will last up to 25 years (10-15 for meat, 25 for everything else).
