    One good tip I learned from Christian (Crazy Plant Guy) is when you combine cuttings with an existing plant is to be sure to plant the rooted cuttings with their roots at the same depth as your existing plant. In other words, I was planting the new cuttings too shallow. The top of the soil dries out quicker so planting them deeper allows them to be closer to the damp soil for longer in the pot. Hope that makes sense. It was a real game-changer for me!

    The fact I know all of these tips already but im stubborn and impatient and keep killing cuttings 🤣 this was a great reminder of the time and care it takes to propagate plants properly!

    Great tips! Especially like the one for adding cuttings back in an existing pot. I’ve had trouble with that. Thank you!

    I have several propagations that need potted. I have been putting it off due to time constraints. Usually I will lose one or two of the cuttings once I put them in soil. Once they are established I do put them in an existing pot of the same. I agree that choosing the correct size pot when first putting them in soil is extremely important. Thank you for this video it is always important for us to be reminded. Thank you for your hard work with these videos and always all the information you give us!

    I literally said "Jeff that's a spoon not a pencil"... Thought I was seeing things 🤣
    If I move a water prop to the mother pot, I spray the soil around the prop for several days so those roots can acclimate. I don't ever really do too many at once though so it makes it easier to know whose who.

    Good morning Jeff 🌅
    How timely. Just yesterday I tossed 8 of 12 hibiscus cuttings because they would not root in water. The four that I did save were sprouting tiny leaves, so I used a rooting hormone in very moist soil. We shall see.
    I have a miniature schefflera tree cutting in water. It also will not root. I will try the perlite moist box. I like this as one can inspect for any root growth.
    Thanks for the video Jeff, u da man 🇨🇦👍

    Thank you for the great tips. I always lose some when I plant them to existing pots. So this is helpful. But can you share how long on average it should take for them to get acclimated to soil? To then move to existing pot?

    Great tips thank you! I love terracotta but I find my new water props prefer plastic. I never thought about using a little larger pot but now that you mention it ….makes sense and I may try that next time. I killed my lime heart leaf philodendron, and have just been given some very healthy cuttings in water. I wanted to try growing them on a plank wondering if I should just establish roots in soil before adding the plank?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Год назад

      Hello! You can definitely establish the roots first and I actually have a plank video coming out soon....the first thing I mention is the plank or pole process takes time haha

    Great video. Would love one like this but a bit more in depth just on hoyas. I have a pretty good record of getting roots in perlite, decent in water, but when transferring to soil it's like all growth comes to a stop. Not sure if it's just because of the time of year and they'll take off once spring is here or something else, but it's frustrating.

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Год назад +2

      Good point and I should actually make a video or mention sometime. I have some hoya that grow so fast and others that do nothing for a year or more....which can be frustrating for sure haha

    Definitely going to give the perlite box a try
    I guess it depends on the plant, but how do you know once the plant has transitioned properly once potted in the soil

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Год назад +1

      Thays a good question and I gauge that by if the leaves continue to look healthy. Sometimes you will see the odd leaf die, but as long as the whole bunch doesn't quickly droop or die as you cut back on watering (or let the soil get drier over time)

    Do you have to stick the cutting down in the perlite or can you just lay them on top?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  Год назад +1

      I just lightly cover them with perlite. The humidity alone in the container should be enough to root them just laying on top
