This brought back a lot of memories for me! I used to go to Ala Moana on Sundays to watch these girls dance the hula! Enjoyed it very much! And this was in the 70s!!!!

Actually, the beat of the ipu hitting the ground actually helps them. The ipu “vibrates” the stage. The ipu is what keeps the beat, so the girls memorize the moves and beats.
I don't mind the audience because to me it sounds like it was filled with proud moms, aunts, sisters, and grannies. Who am I to tell people how to enjoy their culture? Maybe the kids got a real kick out of getting that response? I don't know. Anyway, they were cute as buttons. 😊
