I wish I could talk to Steffen about his lyrical and philosophical ideas. Most of the questions he gets are gear related, but the lyrics are one of the best parts of Obscura, much more important than what pedals the guys use in my opinion... They are the reason I got into learning about philosophy when I discovered them a few years back, and that set me on a whole new path in life. I can't thank Steffen and the band enough for this. Can't wait for Diluvium!
David Miljkovic I really know how that feels like. Been on the same path myself too, and having bands sing about it all is just fantastic haha Did you like the new record?
Unfortunately this happens to a lot of intelligent bands and artists in general, they almost always don't get asked about the art itself or the ideas pf the music and lyrics, it's just superficial things and they usually have to "dumb down" their explanations by excusing themselves about their lyrics or art being about "nerdy things". Most people, in any given situation in any given country, cannot be bothered to think for themselves or look a little deeper into things.
@@mido3ontheway My god, I am so sorry that my reply is coming so late! Interestingly enough, I wasn't *amazed* by the album, in fact I've only heard it once in it's entirety. But still, it's a very nice conclusion to a decade long story :)) what about you? How did you like it?
@@Surokkh Never too late! Well I truly liked the album. I literally think each album they make is a step ahead of its predecessor. However, Rafael was a truly fine addition to the lineup, he's one of my top favorite musicians. But since he and Linus left to form their own band, I'm curious of what's in store for us from Obscura. They have Christian back..
Definitely one of the best and arguably my personal favourite. But most original?? Obscura are in MANY ways Death 2.0, hardly too original - just perfect at what they do.
It's fun to think THIS is the guy Fountainhead was dissing some time ago. I mean yeah, he might not be such a nice guy all the time and that tends to happen with very talented and creative people, specially when it comes to HIS band, but based on this interview alone, without ever meeting him in person , he seems like a nice down to earth guy. I mean, both he and Tom are extremely talented musicians and sometimes that comes with a BIG ego, so I'm guessing it must have been very difficult being in the same room with those two in there (poor Victor, Linus and Sebastian). But as always, there are two sides of a story, I guess. Nice interview though! Thanks Banger. PS: love Obscura! :)
THIS guy screwed fountainhead out of royalties, slandered his name and dramatically affected the promoting of his newest solo record by getting all his social media accounts shut down because they still had playthroughs of HIS solos from akroasis. He also wouldn't allow tom to finish his thank your in the inner sleeve of the record with "love and peace" because it wasn't 'metal'. I love Steffen and he was super nice to me and my lady when we saw him at the casino bar on the boat when this was filmed, but even Hannes Grossman left because Steffen was too sloppy and couldn't remember lyrics half the time. You can find videos of him doing this frequently. He's the Dave mustaine of death metal. Great writer, but needs musicians far better than him around to pull off his plans and is incredibly hard to work with.
Hi there, guy from 2021 here to tell you - Steffen still copyright claims Fountainhead's covers of Akroasis material. I saw Fountainhead post screenshots of Steffen's claims in an Instagram story, some days ago. I then called Steffen out on it on the last Facebook post Obscura did, yesterday, - others reacted the same way as me. Then I checked again, this morning - every comment on the subject has been removed from Obscura's post... I really don't get why Steffen is so stern in keeping Fountainhead "secret" from Obscura's fans... He's hurting Obscura way more than any cover of their songs would (...and why would it be bad for Obscura to have independent playthroughs from former members, anyway..?) I love the music, but I have a hard time finding love for the guy..
Quite liked the interview. The interviewer sounds like a kid who finally got to meet his heroes in real life, and i mean this in a positive way. It was quite engaging, and nice to hear them talk.
1:08 Pretty sure that's Julien Truchan to the left. Vocalist from Benighted. Met him on board, he was super cool. That's the magic about this boat ride. Everyone are just chilling and mingling. Even the artists!
This is the first interview with Steffen I've seen.... prior to watching this my whole assumption of him was by hearing/reading about him obnoxious, suppressive, dictator-like, and overall a pain to work with.... but it's really difficult to imagine that given how humble and friendly he is in this interview.
Great band,... i cant see how they'll ever beat OMNIVIUM tho... i LOVE that album. It will be interesting to see what the next album will sound like now that the trilogy concept is over.
If you just like me love dissection then I would recommend to begin with fallen angels dominion as it's good to get you introduced and simply as the layout is ver very close to storm of the lights bane and also the songs are very similar ( its basically a tribute album) and they even had done a the somberlain cover but if you are looking for something a bit different I would say their under a frozen sun is their best release simply as it's a lot more original but with that being said all 3 albums are good and hopefully they dont stop at 3 like dissection... Just a list to make it clearer a bit: 1. Under a Frozen Sun 2. Fallen angel's dominion 3. Ascension lost
Interviewer: Cool! Was he playing fretless, like, doing the proper, the whole thing?
Steffen: Yeh!
LOL

This guy. My idol. And a superband that doesn't calls itself a superband.
Wow, really great to see how humble he actually is. And horns up 4 the great music too \m/
he isn't actually
@@tlr9403 why?
Like most of the biggest people out there: Down to earth and humble. Great interview.
Lol...Obscura being big.
These people are philosophers
The best and most original modern death metal band.
Thanks for the interview!!!!
HighTech X LowLife disagree I get that to ULCERATE
agreed but add decapitated and gojira

Quite liked the interview. The interviewer sounds like a kid who finally got to meet his heroes in real life, and i mean this in a positive way. It was quite engaging, and nice to hear them talk.
Obscura...lots of respect..very modern but always with a "true" death metal sound...no trend no bullshit

Obscura is amazing live.
The interviewer was awesome, therefore Steffen was comfortably talking about many topics, hope to see more like this! :)
Thanks for getting hold of them, good interview
Benighted's singer at 1:09.
Talk about raw talent... Exellent band
Finally a good band to interview
Listen to his other band Thulcandra. Awesome band.
Fuckin love OBSCURA.
Their new album in amazing! Totally unreal.
The best drummer DEATH ever had was Richard Christie from the Howard stern show and CHARED WALLS OF THE DAMNED.

Chris Greene He looked pretty shocked. Probably it was the guy's attitude, then it was cut lol
Daniel interviews really well!
can you guys do an interview with cor scorpii? new album coming out this month
NEW ALBUM :)
this guy is toki from metalocalypse
Yes! Haha
Jaja
I think Steffan looks very similar to ENB.. if there’s any dark souls players out there \o/

Sounds like he's been reading the Quadrivium.
You do pronounce it wrong. It's pronounced "obskoorah".
sincierly, an accurate german citizen.
[edit] The interviewer is great!
It's not a german word though
Dude reminds me of Skwisgar from Dethclok.
Zis is wery goot!
Thulcandra is still better.
