"Compress textures" option is there for peaple with very small VRAM memory on graphic card. Card will use compress algorithms on textures only once, when it loads a scene (area). When texture is needed it will get decompressed and rendered, via hardware accelerated process. Main reason not to use it is that its LOSSY compression (some detail will get lost).
First off gotta say awesome videos! Really nice to see someone pushing videos of AO even after all this time. :) Second: I followed this video to a T with my settings, but now when I log in, it almost looks worse. I was running everything on minimum due to my laptop (decent with 8gb ram, 2.3 quad and Geforce 630M) Now after the changes its almost like things are more foggy, letters in my chat looks really low quality. Tried turning everything on on max in the game, but to no change. Not sure if you have any idea what it might be. Anyways keep up the good work :)
+Kai Klette Same here when I used these settings. So I turned Antialiasing - FXAA back to OFF or global setting (off) and the letters were clear again. Not sure what this does but having it blurry like that was unplayable for me.
+vprst Oh and I run AO in "windowed" mode if that makes a difference. He did say it was fullscreen antialiasing. Specs are Quad i5 3.0 ghz, 8 GB ram, and GeForce GTX 650 Ti
just built my new comp and was doing the settings from this video. the antialiasing - fxaa setting when i turn it on makes all texts and images in game not sharp, blurry even. Thought i would let you and other people know if you are experiencing it and not sure what is causing it. Any reason why it would when it seems to work with yours? Running a 2060 with amd 3600 with 16gb ram.
@@caloss2 trying to find the newer nvidia driver panel but not having any luck. on a sad side note, I saw that I had posted a few years ago on this video of the same exact issue from the old computer. LOL I can't believe i forgot about that already.
Have to admit i never really bothered with that controlpanel but maybe i should, i can see in games like World of Warcraft how other players show up like after i stand still for a few seconds, not fun on a pvp server :)
Love this video and recommend it to everyone i see. Have a question on the settings though. I just got the latest windows update and it reset a lot of my settings. I put them back to the way you have them in the video and it seems to be back to normal for the most part. Only problem now is any text is not as crisp looking, almost a blur and dim effect on it. also when i zone every ui element from bars to open bags blur out. Any idea as to what is causing it?? the only setting that seems different atm is the antialiasing-setting, mine has 8x where you have 8x csaa. thanks for any help :)

I still cannot get my actual graphics card to show up. I did all the nvidia and other settings as an exact copy. Still see some odd frame dips when I run it on my laptop (ryzen 5 4600h, gtx1650ti, 8gb ram 3200mhz) Running on high performance mode, boost is on etc. Not sure what else i can do to stabilize the framerate on this old yet great game...
Hey I’m trying to run the new engine on a 2019 Mac using windows in boot camp. Has a 4K display and Radeon 555 graphics. But every resolution I try to use is either streched and weird looking or the GUI is so tiny. There is no in between. 1980x something works great old engine but new engine it’s streched. Doesn’t make sense really.
lol I (with a BA IT-system analyst) found out that my system still runs it on my integrated gfx card instead of my gtx 880m on my laptop. Thanks for destupidfying me...

Hello caloss! i watch your videos a lot, and i have viewed this one before but I have a problem: I use a nvidia geforce 940m graphics card but the only one which shows up in the anarchy online client settings is intel hd graphics 5500 which does not seem to be affected by altering nvidia settings. how can I get anarchy online to recognize my graphics card?

If you have laptop with regular graphics/gaming graphics, you may need to follow the guide for the new engine and enable optimus on AO. Link here :- ruclips.net/video/zYTZXoH59uo/видео.html

Anarchy Online now runs rock solid!. Before the fix i crashed every time i was using the grid or teleporters. Thank you!

Thank you for this video! I just re-installed AO and now it's running smoother than ever :)

Kai Klette Not sure if it made sense when I said foggy, but its like things are blurry, just not very visual but still straining on the eyes.

aint working for me with current drivers. Pimping up both exe in the Manage 3D Settings tab, but no go
Is it worse, or just no changes ?
may we have an update for 18.8 ?
Could you make similar video about how to set up graphics for new live engine please?

Excellent suggestions. Thank you for sharing!

Use borderless windowed mode on the new beta engine or you will get that bug

Is it just me or the old engine is way more darker? In some parts of the game I can barely see my character.
Some areas are brighter with the beta engine due it using more light sources, which is correct is difficult to say
I know its a long shot but my comouter won't recognize my NVIDIA card when changing the Rendering Device. Any idea on how to add it?
You could try the method for the new engine "fix" it will enable AO for optimus etc ruclips.net/video/zYTZXoH59uo/видео.html
