We are Heather, Bradey, Alexa and Chloe. We purchased an abandoned stone barn in the foothills of the Italian Alps and we are working together as a family to renovate and restore this old stone barn into our dream home.
The girls are sos lucky to be growing up in this beautiful place in the mountains. I love hearing the church bells chime. You are a good husband and father. God bless you all. I live in Fort Myers Fl USA.

The Caves were also used by the Soldiers during WW2 etc to take supplies through the Alps. There is a documentary on how the Italians did that to also sneak up on the Germans etc. I can't remember what it was called. Some of the older people in the village may remember. Good job on giving your daughters a great childhood. Please be careful doing work on the terrace walls. Mudslides etc.. Stay healthy and strong..
Leave Hollywood mental social engineered propaganda protocols, no soldier's war's or germanphobia, that's someone placed on almost every single human being . Its a rural mountain, animals landscape and wonderful human stories.
Would that have been like the French Resistance? Because the Italians were allies with the Germans in WWII ...perhaps you are thinking of WWI when the Italians switched sides because they resented the Austro-Hungarian Empires' control & influence in the Italian-speaking portion of the Alps.
(from a history blog)... "Annexing territory along the two countries’ frontier stretching from the Trentino region in the Alps eastward to Trieste at the northern end of the Adriatic Sea was a primary goal and would “liberate” Italian speaking populations from the Austro-Hungarian Empire, while uniting them with their cultural homeland. During the immediate pre-war years, Italy started aligning itself closer to the Entente powers, France and Great Britain, for military and economic support.
On April 26, 1915, Italy negotiated the secret Pact of London by which Great Britain and France promised to support Italy annexing the frontier lands in return for entering the war on the Entente side. On May 3, Italy resigned from the Triple Alliance and later declared war against Austria-Hungary at midnight on May 23."
Grazie. Un abbraccio.

Hello people!! We wanted to tell you that we follow you from Uruguay, South America and although we understand little or nothing about the language, we are very happy for what you do and for what you teach your girls and all those young people who see them in their videos, they are showing us with luckily all is not lost with the new generations, congratulations for all that 💪💪💪💪
What a fantastic upbringing these girls are experiencing. They will become incredible adults!
Yes this is so right .best from Jens in Denmark
Having ancestors who lived in the mountains in the N of Spain, I was familiarized decades ago by locals to the caves where people hid. Finding safety was essential during wartime.

How cool is that, wow!
Your strawberry brought me back to me as a kid in my grandparents's garden, eating unripe raspberries until my stomach hurt!

When they first built the pond, I thought exactly what they said ...to let the overflow fill a larger pool just below the first pool, perhaps even deep enough to dive into and long enough and/or wide enough to become a natural swimming pool. Wouldn't THAT be lovely!! And a real treat in the hot summer! So long as there was a stair to go in and out so the girls could easily climb out ...of course the Voyagers would always be with them if they went swimming.
To tone down the orange, try to find a blue stain - all you need is a couple drops - it is the compliment of orange and will give you the brown you are looking for.

Your hiking looked very interesting, a lovely thing to do with all the family. Your dish you were cooking looked very appetizing, you are a man who does. Loved watching😘
With staining new or old wood, experimentation is the key word. Some of these commercial stains can cost a fortune, whereas there are cheaper options if you look around. Have you ever thought of black or brown shoe polish? You can dilute them with mineral turpentine, or neat; and get some great results. Even old paint, (water or oil) could give amazing results. Always have plenty of old rags on hand, to wipe off, or apply, when necessary. I'm a furniture restorer, and have had surprising results by experimenting. Have fun. I like your vlog. I live in New Zealand.
You need a stain that has a slight greenish tint to counteract the orange in the previous stain, if you don't sand off the previous stain.
There are caves in my area of the mountains in Abruzzo, Italy. There are some that are obviously burial grounds for families. It is very interesting. The locals are called Toccolani, and there is a skeleton of a Toccolani girl that dates back to 1000 years. I feel the history in my village. I can sense what people were like as my part of the village has not changed much since the 12 century.

I love watching the girls growing and learning not just through this build, but also all of your travels. They are learning so much that can't be taught in school, so that plus school will help make them very well-rounded adults.
I'm also always impressed and amused by Chloe's imagination. 😃

It’s a good idea to put something on the ground for the strawberry’s to sit on in order to prevent them from rotting before ripening.

I used to try to make fabric dyes out of weeds like goldenrod, for yellow, as an example. I wonder if kids do the same sort of things today.
Having restored antique furniture I find that layering stains is a great way to get that rich aged look. Play around with a few pieces you have laying around. Look closely at the original and see what each layer actually is (golden, rose ,gray?) Then see what the next one is and so on. Also when done staining get a really good wax seal on it. Will still be washable but won't leave the overly shiny look that poly leaves.
20,000 years ago when people first come to this area, these caves would have been full of Cave Lions; many died because of the lions.
OMG! He is also a chef. What a treasure…
I love her genuine smile, laugh and obvious joy in all they do together! It’s contagious!
Use a rag to apply the stain! It makes a difference. You are doing awesome! Bravo. It’s a heck of a renovation & you are stars for doing what you do. Cheers! 🇨🇦 ❤️
Maybe add more green to the stain? It might match the old wood better.
You guys need a porch swing. Love your videos!
It was common practice to house one's animals in the same shelter as the family. The people would sleep above, the animals below. I've only recently discovered that fact and it seemed appropriate to share here lol Your family is amazing, so fun to watch ~ thank you for streaming!
I have been following this channel for 5-6 months now and dang ... I cannot get enough of the stone house ... it's absolutely beautiful. Don't give up ... in the next year you will have citizenship and a home!!! Well worth pushing through.

Think “Eclectic” when it comes to your choices in decorating, staining , painting. You two have the perfect palette for changing it up in all things regarding your hillside home! I love ❤️ watching you and your beautiful family address these projects as they present themselves. I once found some old stained glass windows that appeared to come from a church and incorporated them into a home remodel I was doing at the time. Good luck!
There are daisies all over your property 🌼 what a privilege when we can apreciate this view !

when I lived in the Swiss Alps hey turned their natural caves into shelters and military outposts or look-outs. When you go hiking it's pretty common to find little bunkers made from natural caves.
Super interesting!!
I have seen many similar caves and “mulattiere” up here in the Tuscan mountains above Versilia where l live. They say that druids and so called “witches “ used to gather in these caves, to do their rituals away from the towns! It’s really quite interesting 😊 Of course they were also used during the Wars, for living, storing and hiding😉
I would also think that maybe locals in the old days used these caves along the paths when herding animals from place to place, or for going to market (with goat cheese, etc.) . The paths were their roads and the caves were their rest stops.

your kids are smart creative and respect you Youre doing great
To get a match stain the best thing is to get someone who restores antiques to get the right recipe. I did that to my staircase to match the wood floors. I had to pay a small fee for the recipe which had four different colors to mix at different ratios. The old stain in the older wood has a patina that only time can give.
I’m having a great time watching what your doing. Such beautiful country!
Just today I discovered you and as a treasure, I follow you eagerly without stopping. I hope to meet you one day and order you to greet me. I will be extremely happy and ashamed to ask about the details of your purchase. All greetings and thanks for your wonderful content❤

As a child of WWII, the caves were probably used by troops on the move as well as those hiding during wartime. The cave with the front on it looks like a shepherds house. They would herd sheep inside. But they would sleep above the fireplace for warmth during winter. I don’t know how to describe it. The fire kept the sheep/goats warm as well.
Ethereally beautiful hiking trail; a fairy land! The bird calls are the most melodious I've ever heard. What a stunning area to explore! That stone cavehouse was charming. I hope you are able to find out more about it.
You're nuts to say that you need to get in better shape! Lol. You're already working like a horse, and walking up and down the property day in and out! You're already in excellent condition!
I'd love to see more of those gorgeous trails and forested areas soon.
The trick to getting a natural look with stains is to use a timber sealer first, this prevents the more porous grain taking up extra stain which gives an unnatural look, if you seal it first you get an even color that makes the timber look like it is that color, especially effective when trying to make pine look like a white Baltic timber, and not yellow.
When stationed in Vicenza we did a lot of hiking and exploring back in the 70s, most caves in the north were used in the past by conquering armies, the Germans were using them in two wars and we were told that there could be booby traps and to be careful. Quite a few were repurposed as Fungi farms. Enjoy watching your videos!
I have noticed one moment with the strawberry. The parenting style. My parents would give me the whole one for sure, even if I proposed them to take some they would refuse. And it is common in my country (Belarus) But you cut the berry into four pieces (it surprized me, I swear))) And I think it is very important to show children that they are not the only ones in the world to have wishes. It makes them less egoistic, caring about other people. A good lesson for me as a parent. Your videos are meditation for me. Thank you❤
This is absolutely gorgeous you’re doing an absolutely marvelous story with your girls don’t ever doubt what you’re doing that you’re doing it right because you are they will always have stories to tell for the rest of their lives
Thank you so much ❤️

I live in Italy. discovered you watching TheNewbys, and then I kept watching you, especially because for a short while I lived in a beautiful house like yours high up over Iseo Lake Bergamo County. I loved the fact you could go there hiking. Now I live in the centre of Italy. I admire the huge work you are doing. You have lots of courage and ability. I don't know if you ever travelled to Matera. It is fascinating and quite modern as history... A big hug and "in bocca al lupo!" 🥰
Really cool caves thanks for sharing! Im watching from Massachusetts, USA. I love your stone house . It will be incredible when you are done!
Hey guys, just wanted to remind u of a product in the US called "Drylock" paint. It's what Shamu's tank is painted with at Sea World & it's awesome for keeping dampness out of a structure. I live in Michigan & have what's called a Michigan basement - rocks & foundation out of natural materials (yes, I have a couple tree trunks for supports too) and my walls are painted with Drylock to mitigate mold, mildew & even water outside from coming in. I hope u consider this product for the outside walls that have moisture. It would be a definite easy solve to that problem. Just not sure how the Italian codes & inspectors would look at it, but it's a fab product to paint outside on walls & inside of course. Hope u can get it there! You're doing such a fabulous job & work SO HARD, I would be tickled pink if my suggestion could help solve that problem. It's at Home Depot & Lowes & probably other home improvement places. FINGERS CROSSED!! 🙏
Absolutely beautiful!!! I couldnt find older vids in order & finally figured it out. What a great journey you guys are on. Every episode shows your progress & more. Very exciting stuff.

My dad and I explored caves a lot in Montana. A very cool experience, but can be very dangerous if you don't know what you are doing. There was one cave we liked to go to that the town ended up blocking off because people kept falling to their death. Use headlamps! Too many people explore with no light and you can easily fall in a hole.

Yes, beware of also getting disoriented in the caves. My brother got lost and learned that it's best to have a rope so you can follow it back to find your way out. Just a good safety tip.

I have lived in a cave in Southern Spain for the last 6 years, there are about 20,000 inhabited cave houses in the region. A year round temperature of 19C means that they are cool in the summer and warm in the winter (with a wood burner). A perfect home

Wonderful series, I enjoy watching the girls learn about nature and I’m guessing another language?, while growing up with parents that are gifted and willing to “do the hard stuff” most won’t or don’t. My wife of 49 years and I have remodeled a couple of houses and are currently finishing up our “retirement” home in Indiana; corn, soy beans, wheat, and cattle. Wish we had some mountains in our backyard to explore, but that’s what trips are for!.. Keep up the good work!!!!
Wow, those caves! So nice to touch history. I imagine something to do with the war too. 'm glad you're all taking time to hike and enjoy your area. Some stains are solid, some opaque, so that first one may have been a solid stain.

I just found your channel. You have an amazing piece of history. What a priceless gift.
I have the feeling that long ago in one of your previous lives you were the original owner and builder of this amazing place !
OH MY WORD I HAVE NEVER EVER SEEN A MAN WORK SOOOOOOOO HARD.... THAT IS HARD WOR YOU DOING SIR YOU NEED A CROWN.....
That narural amphitheater in the back is really turning into a magical spot, with warerfalls and all..
The old wood you want to copy looks to have a slight greenish tint, so perhaps try one with a slight green tint? Think It would balance out the red and give a more antique brown look.
Edit: also so cool to see the old caves and the little "hot-tub" filling up 😊
😍 😍 😍
You may try dampening the wood first a little it helps the wood take up the stain and also try OOOO steel wool to apply gives a bit of a scrub at the same time. The old beam is rough sawn and distressed makes a big difference in the look.
That view is incredible! So worth the hard effort. You all are extremely blessed to have found that glorious property!!
The alps are incredible, but I personally would need more sunshine and warmth like Southern France.
Try adding in a mild iron oxide stain (steel wool rusted in water). It can mimic some of that darker ashen color you get with age in wood.
