Everything you said is spot on! Winnebago tried to fix bathroom issues with a layout fix instead of just creating a better filtering system. They could also consider some kind of design like the Westfalia chairs in the front that turn into a bed but still give you seatbelts and seating. Just make it for one person. You could still seat three and then also sleep at least two (maybe three with two kids in the back and an adult in the front).
Now... the mirror in the bathroom. You height impaired people need longer mirrors. Us correctly sized short people would find the mirror just fine! 😄
Why does no other RV maker copy the "G" design? Only guessing, but maybe because of what you mentioned... the bed is too small for two, and no fiddling with the design can change that. A side to side bed that can sleep two shorter people and still give you room for storage, bathrooms, and so on A front to back bed can sleep two longer people, but takes up a lot of space,.Winnebago's design gives you the tall bed of the front to back design, but also the extra space for the bathroom and storage of the side to side design. BUT... the compromise is... only one person in that bed. I have a feeling designers don't like that, and apparently, customers don't like it either since the "K" design is so much more popular. Just thoughts.
    Be seeing you!

G floor plan has no where to lounge and nap during the day. It's dark inside! Everyone knows the K is better! Lol. Actually for working on the road the G is best. For leisure travel the K is nice with big windows and permanent twins convertible to king.

Yeah, Winnebago "remodeled" it to cut cost. The bed looks unfinished because they went to slats instead of using the Froli system. The jump seat is absolutely needed and the upgrade should have been placing a railing behind it so you could use the back cushion with the door open without fear of folks falling out. The only other floor plan that rivalled this was the 23L in the Viva / Trend and it was discontinued. The 23L floor plan and the original Travato 59G floor plan should be taken on by another van building if Winnebago won't do them. I suspect there's a patent that hasn't expired yet.

I'm with you. The "new" style 59g Travato is a disaster. But you know, they could have 3-point seatbelts on the dinette bench. Winnebago did it in the 2015 Trend 23L, which is kind of the B+ version of the 59G. My wife nixed the 59g as too small, so we ended up with the Trend 23L which is a foot wider and a few feet longer, allowing for a dry bath, a closet, and a L-shaped counter in the kitchen. She loves the dry bath, closet, and L-counter. It's basically the same layout as the 59g, but with everything behind the dinette mirrored left-right.

I like the rooms of the G better than the openness of the K. I had a friend that said, "some people want to live in a fish bowl, others prefer a cave." The K is for fishbowl people. I'm, apparently, a cave dwelling introvert. But the real deal breaker with K is the fridge. It's under the counter, so it is much smaller than the one in the G, and it's harder to access everything in it. You have to bend over, squat, or kneel to get anything that isn't right at the front. Similar problem with the microwave.

  • @Cory-32901

I like the New Model better myself.
This would be my daily driver vehicle as well as my RV and although I am single I would want the look and capability of taking friends and family with me as my daily vehicle places and have more of automobile seats that are 3 point safety belts rather than an RV Bench/ Booth Seating type situation for them to stuff into.
I would never use this van to actually do traveling with 4 people so there would be absolutely no need for making up that puzzle of a front bed to begin with. Plus I believe that this floor plan is available from Winnebago in some form with a Pop-Top if I’m not mistaken.
Plus you state all of the time there is no other RV Manufacturers making this floor plan, there is and has been for quite some time other RV Manufacturers making the same floor plan as yours as well as the new one. In fact I know one right off the top of my head is Airstream Rangeline, and there are at least two, maybe even three other RV Manufacturers making this floor plan as well. You have even done video tours of several of them over the years.
The bathroom height situation absolutely 100% needs fixed, thats just ridiculous as it is. But the Murphy Bed in the new model is a huge improvement over the older ones, that older bed with the cut out angles and such was really really bad. At least the new design you can sleep 2 people.
The New Floor Plan is 100% for me!
I would struggle making the decision to buy the older one because I would be forced to keep my car as well as the van so I could still take friends places with me safely and not make them feel they were thrown into an RV booth dining table to go with me.

Ahhhhh…..change is hard, Scott! Love our 2023 GL and could not imagine any changes backward towards the previous models. The jump seats are straight out of the Flintstones but we only use them as a footrest as we watch movies regularly. It holds pillows and blankets nicely. The table was the first to go as it takes up so much space in any position, and heck, we don’t even eat at the table at home, nor do we work on the road. The bathroom is a small price to pay for the added space for two in the bed as I rarely see solo travelers in these camper vans. It’s a huge improvement in space usage. The system panels are perfectly placed above the door imho, having flown aircraft all my life, and it would be a pain to have to deal with them tucked under the TV. We are always walking by and it is so easy to take a quick peek. Or to duck in from outside to perhaps check on the water level you are adding. I have no issues in the bathroom at only 5’9” and if I have shoes on it is simple to just duck a bit. It’s definitely not for 2 larger folks. That would be the K. (with that dorm room fridge). But at this price point, it’s best they leave that room in the bed. With over 22,000 miles in 14 months I can’t imagine a better camper van setup for us.

I’d agree. I can’t speak to the previous model but I like the current model layout. Agreed, that the extra room for sleep is a must for 2ppl. We see value in the 2 jump seats for day tripping with family/friends or for a dog station. Also, we plan to purchase an additional lagun table for added work space (hopefully 2 can fit at the same time). Picking ours up next week. The k twin beds are cool, but that small fridge with no true dinning area is a hard pass. Let’s not forget the cab bed system, haven’t tried out yet but can sleep 1 additional person or just have an extra place to get some needed space.

  • @reneadventures

you are mostly right.... I have a 2020.5GL (same floorplan as your '19G). I am typing this sitting in the bench seat, which I use on every trip. The original dining area with bench seat, jump seat (with extra bed) and swing out table extension is the ideal configuration. Making the bathroom shorter and narrower is exactly what you say... dumb (ok, you didn't say that, I did); in GL models, moving the inverter from the jump seat to the under-bed storage area reduces the already limited onboard storage, so that's #5. IMO the best model year configurations and features was 2020.5 & 2021 G & GLs.

I just bought a 2017 Travato 59k and I’m wondering … I know you are buds with the guys at the Winnebago factory and I’d love to swap out some items to refresh my older version … for instance the gas line area is a good deal rusty, I’d like that to be updated, the windows have the horrid pull down 1980’s shades and I’d love to update those with the shades you have. These are just a few ideas .. wondering if you could do a video on what Winnebago can and can’t do to upgrade older models people buy. Kudos Scott ! Your videos are always interesting. I agree with you 100% in fact, I'm looking for a 2020 , 21 just because of the stupid changes they made. P.S. winnebago claims a 10 year life and 8 year warranty on the lithium batteries. Does that mean that after five years, they only have 50% of the original Wattage? I know that you mentioned something on one of your videos, but I can't find it. P.P.S. Do you happen to know when was the last travato made with the absorber refrigerator ? The "fit rv" exchanged their fridge for one with 2 compressors because the ice-cream melted....

I agree the bench seat and lowering the bathroom floor again would be a great move for Winnebago makers to adopt. However, I don’t agree about a fixed table. The lagoon style makes for much easier movement especially for larger people. You’re thin and smaller/medium built. I actually originally lived and wanted the GL model, but unless you’re traveling alone like you do, I find it isn’t the best model for a married couple… at least not an middle-aged to older married couple. The bed is too small. I need space to move around. I don’t like cuddling close all night. Cuddle time then give me some room and space to feel cool and comfortable and to get in and out of bed to use the bathroom without climbing over my partner.

Hi Scott! I love the new floor plan without the jump seat it gives more floor space for my two dogs otherwise they would have no where to go. I agree with you I think Winnebago needs to put back the bench seat and the table, but still need to put in the 3 point seat belts along with the tether harness for car seats. I can't believe they had it in the prior floor plans and took it out. Many of us bring our grandchildren with us and the tether harness is a safety issue. The generic Lagun table is awful!!!!! I would like to see them add back the extra space in the shower. You mentioned the mirror was lower being short I would like that mine is too high. I would also like to see the closet a bit wider. I think the 22 and 23 are smaller than the previous ones. I may have mentioned to you I think they should move the buckle to the middle of the bed. I find it hard to reach when I have things stored in the garage area. I keep my clam tent and my extra gallons of water there and always having to climb over these things to reach the buckle. Either that or I need longer arms. I still feel the G floor plan is the best out there!

I wish the K had the option of instead of two beds have one side set up as a dinette that could be made into a bed. Similar to the Solis Pocket.

We preferred the Westfalia Wave and ordered one from Sunshine State. Our mission set is not full time, so the 3 CF fridge works for us.

Scott you are DEAD ON man. I have a 2019G and really love puzzle bed options. One thing you didn't mention was COUCH mode which I use abour 80% of the time. In that mode the jump seat makes a great ottoman/recliner. I would HATE to have a K with such a small "lounge" are up front.
Another commented on how the bed area is fairly unusable when the but is folded up and I'd have to agree. I'd always thought a reclining seat back there would be a great option.
Anyway great video and I hope us G-Lovers will get a decent option going forward. Until then I'll never give up my 2019.

Thanks Scott ! I’m so glad I have your floor plan! (2019 chassis with a 2020 59G fit). I am looking into having Piotr somehow figure a way to do an “assist” with lifting the bed. It’s REALLY heavy for me and maybe a thingy like they have for keeping your hood up would help with the heft of that murphy bed…

I wouldn't argue with your changes, Scott. I still prefer my Solis PX hardtop but there are a few things I'm jealous of: the microwave, larger fridge/freezer and bathroom (with sink)!

oh, btw, when I went to Rover Vans, Piotr was very interested in our floor plan. That’s when I mentioned my challenge with how heavy the bed is. He might have been inspired by our 59G plan… ;)

I just looked at the Travato 59g and a Jayco Swift 20a (Jayco version of Rich's Eeyore). The Swift solves some of your issues. People use the Luno bed in the second row to add an additional sleeping area up front. Surprisingly, the mid bath is roomier than the Travato (it doesn't slim down in the back) and actually is the same size as the back bath that so many units have. For you, I assume sleeping in the kitchen may be a problem, but many single people use the back bed as a twin and not a pullout double. For me, your floorplan would have won me over. Now I will go with the Swift 20a since it will sleep 3 and has a nice bathroom. Since I won't be living full time, the back slide out bed is no different than I have been doing with my small trailers for years.

I think 2020.5 and 2021 G and GL were the sweet spot. Added insulation, quiet AC, and other improvements. As a solo traveler, II keep my 2020.5GL permanently in couch mode. Love my controls where they are, as I have a shelf over the slider that provides loads of storage. I don't mind the jump seat at all, use it as a footrest, and my corgis like to lie on it. Like that my bed doesn't have that leg, as I have a dog crate under the front portion of the bed. I do like the permanent faucet in the redesign, instead of the rinky-dink folding one, that is easily changed, and they got smart an finally made that space by the fridge into a pantry, another easy fix on my year. I hope to have many more years in my rig and that by the time I need another (if ever), that there will be something more practical than the current G floorpan.

Agree with you. Love our ‘19GL. But cannot update to the newer iteration. Bring back the bathroom to its old dimensions and the front lounge with a puzzle bed option and big stable table with extensions.

Disagee on all 4 points. Love the two new belted seats. They are comfortable and look so much better than that ghetto bench. The Luna bed works great if I have a third sleeper in the Van. Its quick and easy to set up. Bathroom is fine for a Van and I'm 6'1". Glad I don't have to deal with that dumb extra pump. The bed is adequate for the two of us. If you are "big people" I'd be looking at getting a B+ or even an A instead. G flooplan is super useful in many different ways.
