    I absolutely love Dubrovnik. Was there a few years ago. Explored up and down those streets. Particularly the Old Town where I stayed. I love the views from your place. Croatian wine is fantastic. The food is so good there. Those cats are all over the place. Little cheeky buggers made a bed of my lap trying to get at my food once for lunch 😋🤣🤣. I love the history you went into. That was one of the most unique aspects of visiting there. You learn a lot of that up on the mountain top fortress. Have fun in Bosnia. An excellent video.

      Yes, very much agree that Croatian wine and food is amazing! Haha, that's amazing that the cat actually sat on you 😂 They're certainly confident! Yes, the history of Dubrovnik is so interesting. Knowing a little bit about it really adds to the experience there. Thanks so much for watching and taking the time to leave your comment! 🤗

    Can you remember the name of the accommodation that you stayed in? Also would you recommend Dubrovnik or split for a 1 week solo travel? Thanks

    • @EllaMcKendrick
      @EllaMcKendrick  2 года назад +1

      Yes, I stayed at an Aibnb. The link to it is here: www.airbnb.co.uk/rooms/49844249
      Out of the 2 I'd actually recommend Split. Dubrovnik is very expensive for both accommodation and food and there it a lot more to do in the Split region ie you can take ferries to nearby islands or buses to national parks. When I was on the ferry to Hvar I saw a few travellers chatting to other travellers and making connections and arrangements to meet up so it seemed like a good place to meet others too. I didn't see as many travellers in Dubrovnik. I hope this helps :)

      @@EllaMcKendrick @Ella McKendrick thanks for the reply, I appreciate it. Unfortunately I ended up booking a 1 week holiday in plat near Dubrovnik just before I saw this message. Are there many reasonably priced bars and restaurants outside of the old town? I was hoping not to spend more than 100 pounds per day (including transportation) not sure if this is realistic or not... Also is it an easy place to navigate? I'm EXTREMELY bad with directions and get lost incredibly easily.

    • @LincolnClay98
      @LincolnClay98 2 года назад

      @@EllaMcKendrick also did you tip at restaurants and bars? Sorry for all the questions!

    • @EllaMcKendrick
      @EllaMcKendrick  2 года назад +1

      @@LincolnClay98 Happy to help! There will definitely be some more reasonably priced places that you can eat at. Bars and restaurants in the Old Town are generally the most expensive but there's plenty in modern Dubrovnik. To keep costs down I made my own breakfast at my Airbnb and then for lunch I bought pastries from a bakery in the city. I only therefore had 1 meal at a restaurant per day which kept me within budget.
      There are frequent buses that navigate throughout the city which are pretty reasonable in terms of transportation costs. I also found that taking an Uber from one end of the city to the other was only a couple of pounds.
      Dubrovnik old town is pretty small and all streets lead to the same place so you shouldn't have a problem navigating through there. I didn't find the main city too bad either but I made sure I always had Google Maps to hand just in case.
      I hope this helps! I'm sure you'll have an amazing time as Dubrovnik was definitely one of the highlights of my Croatia trip :)

      Do the cats seek out me or do I seek out the cats? That is the question! Yes, you have a good memory - There were loads of cats in Namibia too! Too true, it would have been good to take to the ocean in a boat. Stay tuned, I may be doing just that in a vlog I have coming up 😉

    Dubrovnik is awesome. Their cats are well fed. The Old Town is my favorite. We also went out Salsa dancing while we were there and had an amazing time.
    The views from the walls are spectacular. The town feels like you stepped back in time. Doesn't it? Their tuna is the best. We don't have anything in Ameria that tastes like it. I like to take a dip in the Sea as well. Just feels like it connects me to the place somehow. Fun fact: Game of Thrones was filmed there also.

    • @EllaMcKendrick
      @EllaMcKendrick  2 года назад

      Salsa dancing would have been so lovely! Although I cannot dance for the life of me 😂 Had you tried salsa before? Yes, it really did feel like I was back in time. I could almost imagine guards patrolling the walls in their armour. Oh, yes - the tuna was divine! It is true that tuna can taste vastly different in different countries. I guess some places import it frozen and it's just not as good that way. Yes, I saw so many Game of Thrones shops and even saw some of the filming locations. But (confession) I have never watched Game of Thrones 🤐

    Thank you for a great tour of both Dubrovnik and Cavat. Sounds like you blessed a few people when you found that umbrella on the old walls and the views were amazing. Yes, people were so happy when we popped open the umbrella. It was just lying on the floor behind an ice cream stand so people weren't noticing it before and were getting soaked! I tend not to eat fish either but I gave it a go and was actually impressed! Croatia does specialise in seafood so it was definitely a good place to try it!

    We noted your cuts timed with the beat of the music, nice! Wayne says puppies make vlogs better. 🐕 OMG, that looks almost exactly the same as our Airbnb in Dubrovnik!! Seems like the stairs going up were different, but I wonder if it's hosted by the same people! We LOVED Croatian wine!! Too bad they do not export... Hey, we got ice cream there too! Even Wayne, and he never gets it! How nice, they are feeding the kitties... We ate sea bass in Croatia too! Amazing sunset! Damn, that tuna steak looks delicious! Excellent video...we want to go back SO MUCH!

      Yes! I always try to time my footage with music where possible. Puppies do indeed make vlogs better; I didn't see many dogs in Croatia. How crazy! Maybe they were hosted by the same people as I think they managed a few properties. I guess only being able to have Croatian wine in Croatia makes it all the more special! Did you see all the cats at the cat shrine when you had your ice cream? 😂

    • @EllaMcKendrick
      @EllaMcKendrick  2 года назад

      Hi Greta! I'm really pleased you enjoyed the video. I was there at the end of August. It's definitely good that you are visiting out of peak season as with the easing of restrictions this year I expect Croatia to be a lot busier than last year and the lack of crowds was something which most certainly made the trip special. Are you just visiting Dubrovnik or more of Croatia as well? I'd definitely recommend the walls of Dubrovnik. I usually don't like to do touristy activities but this one lives up to the hype. My other piece of advice would be to research restaurants beforehand to find those with the best reviews instead of just walking into restaurants. There really are some amazing places to eat but they're not always the places you would expect. Food always makes of breaks my experience of a place, haha!

Those castles, walls, fortresses- to have built those, that even ruins and remnants are still around today for us to wander around, and, as you said 'gawk at' ( love that). Thank you for taking me around Dubrovnik again. Funny to see that the old wooden draw bridge has been replaced to a stone bridge. I bet it's interesting to see somewhere you've already visited from someone else's perspective! My guess is the wooden draw bridge may have been in poor condition and not safe for so many tourists to cross at once. I visited in Covid so this was probably a quiet time compared to normal! I'm glad you enjoyed! Yep, the weather can change really quickly. It was forecast as stormy every single day for my visit but, as you can see, the weather was mostly good but with a few showers and storms sprinkled in. I expect it will be similar when you visit - many dry patches with the odd shower added in for a bit of excitement. Even in rain there's lots to do - restaurants are all sheltered and there are some monuments you can visit which involve being indoors (such as the fortress which I really wish I'd visited!). I hope you have an amazing time - pet some cats for me! 🤣
