A Sad Ending...Exploring a Once Luxurious Abandoned House Built in the 1940s!!

  • The Glasshouse
    Built in the 1940s this single story ranch style home is absolutely huge considering it never had a basement but was still about 3500 square feet! It sat on about two and a half acres and because of the large property it was ripe for redevelopment.
    The home had likely been owned by an investor since they were trying to subdivide the property since the early 2000s but had been denied. The house was rented out on and off for years which likely led to the lack of maintenance seen throughout.
    At some point, it looks as though they had thought about renovating, getting as far as tearing out the kitchen and removing some of the wall coverings. Ultimately the project stalled and the house was listed for sale, selling a short time later.
    The home was unfortunately demolished shortly after my visit and the new owners submitted an application to build a new single story home in its place which was approved. A sad end for this once beautiful 60ish year old home!

    I bet this one would've been amazing before they started messing with ugly renovations! I'm in love with the doors (and side windows) into the living room. What a cool design, and the original stuff still there (bathroom fixtures, untouched flooring, those squares on the wall, etc) really did make the explore worthwhile! You know i loved that green bathroom too (it looked like green backed glass pieces on the wall to me). Makes me wonder if the original untouched bathroom had a shower or tub to match that gorgeous minty coloured toilet. 🥰 The roof and windows in that pool enclosure were pretty cool, but the pool itself looked a bit DIY, haha! Definitely not the best indoor pool i've seen you feature on this channel, but interesting for sure! Thanks for sharing it, James!

      Ya, they were green backed glass panels and you know the tub and sink used to match the toilet. Ya the glass roof was incredible but no idea what was going on with that pool! Glad you enjoyed it Carrie and thanks very much for your comment!!

      Lap pools are rectangle typically. It looked very shallow, especially with the slanted sides more like a wading pool. Given when it was built though it's a bit of an odd one.

    James
    This Static Space was very lovely and huge to say the least. That pool was just
    incredible. I don’t think I would want it in the house because of the mold factor.
    The pool was very big too. You made the winter swim sound good.
    But now I have a bone to pick with you. Where do you get off saying that laminate
    floors look cheap. When we bought our house the kitchen floor was linoleum and
    quite gross. I couldn’t get it to look clean and so we decided to get a laminate floor
    for our kitchen. It took us a couple of years to get the new floor because it wasnt cheap as you stated. You shouldn’t make comments like that James because it’s
    not right. I’m sure there are people out here that also have laminate floors. Enough
    said you get my point. Anyway this was a really nice house despite the cheap
    laminate floor. Stay safe and well.😢
    P.S. I realize that this is your opinion and you are entitled to it but not at the point
    of hurting others feelings.🤢

    • @malindahenke5724
      @malindahenke5724 3 месяца назад +2

      The first laminate floors that came out were very cheap looking. Looked like plastic nothing like wood. New laminate looks so much better. Which I have!

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  3 месяца назад

      Ok let me clarify that statement...l'amitié flooring is one of the cheaper options out there but I also mentioned at the end of the comment that they should have kept what they had. That is assuming they had wood flooring and they could have refinished it. This is also a statement in regards to a large luxury home and chances are, if the buyer can afford it, they can probably afford the floors too. Personally I hate laminate mostly because it doesn't last very long, especially if it gets wet, it tends to swell because it is mostly pressed board. Also, I think if I had to choose between say laminate and vinyl, I would go with vinyl because it is waterproof. I didn't mean to offend you Irene, I am sorry...I am aware how expensive flooring is. Glad you enjoyed the video otherwise and thanks a lot for your comment!!

    • @StaticSpaces
      @StaticSpaces  3 месяца назад

      Ya and I am probably thinking of the older laminate flooring, plus I have seen a lot of abandoned houses with that flooring where it has worn very badly over the years

    Somebody massively f*cked that house up by doing things on the cheap. I imagine it was glorious in its day, though. Still a fascinating style of home. For the forties, the kitchen and most of the bathrooms were quite large! The pool was certainly unexpected!

    • @StaticSpaces

    Hi James! Great house! I really liked the floor tiles in the entry way and the glass in the front door. A lot of interesting features in this one. Too many to mention. Oh, but I will say it’s a shame they seemed to cover up the red brick fire place. I would rather have had that than what they would have covered it up with. I don’t know why they always seem to make a nice house look cheap. I wonder why they didn’t take the rocking horse, if that’s what it was. I’m sure a wee girl, or boy, would have loved that. Never in my life have I seen a bathroom without a toilet 😂. That’s definitely a new one! That patched up glass looked sketchy! Why not just replace it? I’m sure they could have afforded it. Thanks for the video!

      I don't but people seem to hate anything old for some reason. I don't know why, I like old things, they make me feel young. 😂 Ya, I was half expecting the glass wall to collapse on me...seriously though, I bet it happened after the original owners sold the place.
