"Beyond the Flow of Time" is my 18 track tribute album to one of my all time favorite games, Chrono Trigger! I worked on this pretty much all day and night through the second half of the summer, reliving so many wonderful memories throughout the process. A literally timeless adventure of a lifetime with fantastic music by Yasunori Mitsuda (and Nobuo Uematsu) that is still so unique to me. Happy to finally have covered this game and I hope you enjoy the album!

Wow this is really damn good! Chrono Trigger was a massive influence, when I created a game with some friends in high school, based off a comic I drew as a kid, which is now being redone. It is pure sci-fi fantasy, and you travel different planets, in a partially living ship called "Stjarnavind"... (My brother and I loved Outlaw Star). It begins on Earth in 2183, as the main character Einar (not his name on his home world), is sent to Earth by accident as a baby. Einar, was actually an imaginary friend I created as a child, and was modeled after a young Roy Batty of Blade Runner, mixed with a young Thouzer from Fist of the North Star.. I felt bad for both of those characters as a kid. A bit of Billy Idol was added to him since the character is also the lead vocalist/guitarist of what is called a "Strife Metal" band, named "Ragnarok" (he actually has songs/music written for him). He is part human, and part of a genetically engineered race called "Zayin" (old Hebrew word for weapon, which is basically what he is), which was created by a primordial alien race, the Warden.
Being that Einar is born with an extremely rare, but horrible mutation called, "Fury Contiuum", he is marked for immediate termination after he is born. The mutation would one day put him into a state of indiscriminate viciousness and destruction capable of destroying worlds, even galaxies. This happened once on the Zayin world, which nearly ended their star.. It is hilarious how he ends up on Earth, but the people responsible for it, freak out, because it could mean the end of Earth, and more, since they lose complete track of him as his baby pod is clipped, and slightly damaged as he enters Earth's atmosphere completely undetected due to the pretty meteor shower everyone is watching.
In the little game I made in school, his weapon was a gun-blade as we wanted both sword and gunplay. I was in love with the elemental system of Final Fantasy XI, so his weapon had that aspect to it, to solve puzzles, and add more strategy to combat.. So he'd bring up a wheel or "Elemental Revolver" as it was called in the game, to select an elemental cartridge. later, like 2019 later his weapon and Elemental Revolver, became more influenced by my Gunbreaker, and Eureka of Final Fantasy XIV lol, the weapon was named "Violent Grace".
His second weapon, is an Infinite Frequency Manipulator, or IFM. A sonic weapon used to hone harmonic energy, for harmonic attacks. His was naturally fashioned as a guitar he'd summon, and named "Violent Resonance". When he was in the military, he was apart of a special unit called "Sound Force". They have their minds linked to their IFM, which allows them to augment reality briefly with their music.. It is kind of like magic (but it's not). In the game, you had to do a series of commands to have Einar play a riff. If it is executed perfectly, it increases the damage or effect, and shortens Violent Resonance's cool down. If it is executed ok, it is normal, but poorly executed will cause indiscriminate damage, and make Violent Resonance cool down longer, or depending on the riff being played, could just kill you. One of his riffs is called "Malice Striker", where he'll briefly summon the dragon Nidhogg, who will spit a burning orb that explodes. If this is messed up, you'll be hit too lol.
Another one is called "Fear Crusade", which inspires his Zayin beast (a massive wolf-like beast), to become an "Unfeigned Zayin Beast", turning him into a massive scary looking werewolf-like beast. He'll sit on his shoulder, as the beast does crazy attacks.. If it is messed up though, it puts his Zayin wolf companion, Varg into humanoid form, which he takes while he is the bassist in the band. In this state Varg is weak, and because him and Einar are linked in a somewhat symbiotic relationship after a blood transfusion, any damage Varg takes Einar will take more of, or it will simply just turn Varg into a Zayin wolf puppy. Einar's final weapon is himself merged with his wolf Varg, that becomes like an armor for him kinda influenced by Venom suit, though Viking/cyberpunk themed. This is when he awakens the mutation, becoming "Weapon of Sovereign Ruination, True Arsenal Form, Righteous Violence". He has to wear his "Ulfhednar Grima", which is a mask that allows him to retain his sanity while in this form. It along with the suit his wolf becomes, dampens some of the destructive powers within him. If I remake this game, I would have it still play a lot like Chrono Trigger, but look like Guilty Gear Strive. Weeeeeeeee.

I'm not sure how he gets the licenses/approval to make these albums, but I love the nostalgia kick with upgraded sounds! This and the FFVI mix are so good! Two of my favorite games of all time.
