Speaking of Actors Mojo, could you guys please do a list of Actor Bill Paxton's movies/TV show performances? As far as I've watched both WatchMojo and MrsMojo you guys don't talk about Actor Bill Paxton or his death or his children AT ALL! So if you please make a full list of Actor Bill Paxton and his son James Paxton and the movie/TV projects they've worked on, that would make me very happy.
Comedian Albert Brooks was so scary in 'Drive'
John Lithgow in 'Third Rock From The Sun'
Mo'Nique in 'Precious'
Viola Davis in 'The Woman King'
Forrest Whitaker in 'Last King Of Scotland' & 'The Shield'
Linda Hamilton in 'Terminator 2: Judgement Day.
Bruce Willis being casted in Die Hard! He was known as a comedy/sitcom actor and no one thought the movie would do well.
I came here for Bruce too, I thought he was going to be N.1
He was also the fifth or sixth person on the list of the film makers.
Then he played a doughy wimp in Death Becomes Her. He's so great
I don't know if JK Simmons was ever type cast, but that man absolutely has some STELLAR range.
The Ladykillers isn't a great movie overall, but Simmons is hilarious in it. I also love his bit in the SNL career day sketch.
In Counterpart he plays two very different versions of the same person!
@@What_Makes_Climate_TickI actually liked Ladykillers. I know most did not, but Tom Hanks and JK were so much fun in that
Have to disagree about MTM. She does not possess comedic chops. Drama is her default setting and her role in Ordinary People (a film I loathe) was a natural fit. I have said many times that her success in her eponymous show was because of her supporting cast and not because of her natural ability. Her two fiascos following her show are proof of that
Sandler deserved the nod for Uncut Gems
Matthew McConaughey really turned his career around, once he started making serious dramas, and less of romantic comedies. He really showed how much range he had, even winning an Oscar for his efforts.
But he had done many notable serious roles before that: A Time to Kill", "Contact", "U-571", "Reign of Fire", "Lincoln Lawyer", and "Mud
@@danecarpenter8735 My favorite movie with him is Frailty. Great horror movie.
I just finished his book Green light and so worth listening to. He talks about this
Breaking Bad would never have worked without Bryan Cranston
Bcuz if they chose a dramatic actor everyone knows the expectations would've been too high to ever live up to....as great as he was, a huge part was we didn't expect that performance
And to think, at one point they had offered the role to Matthew Broderick.
Never
If you're a casting director, Bryan Cranston is THE ONE WHO KNOCKS !
He was crucial for that show. No one else could've done it.
Robin Williams also played an absolutely chilling villain on Law & Order: SVU, probably one of the most memorable villains in that series.
Robin Williams had a wonderful range of acting. I was so impressed with his acting from the moment I saw "Good Morning Vietnam". I didn't like all of his movies, but his performance in each was fabulous. As far as I'm concerned, his best roles were in "The Fisher King", "The Angriest Man in Brooklyn", & "Patch Adams".
@@dee_dee_place insomnia!
@@dee_dee_place the fact you didn't even put "Good Will Hunting" in there just goes to show how great of an actor he really is.
@@ebdo7863insomnia surprised the hell out of me because as someone born in the 90's robin williams was the go to guy for kids friendly comedy with jumanji, flubber, mrs.doubtfire, hook, aladdin etc so once I got a little older and saw insomnia it was great seeing how good he was in it especially as the bad guy
@@mxhughes I saw Robin Williams in concert the year before he died. He told a story about making "Insomnia". He started drinking again & came onto the set unprepared & drunk. Al Pacino was so pissed off that he threw him up against a wall & said something to the effect of, "This is why I didn't want to do this picture with you. Get your act together or I'll make sure you're gone." Williams said that Pacino scared the living hell out of him.
And you are correct, Robin Williams did a fine job of acting in that movie.
What about Keanu Reeves? He went from "Bill and Ted", "The Prince of Pennsylvania" to "Speed"
Heath Ledger embodied Joker so well. 🎉
Why are you celebrating it? The role KILLED HIM.
@@Trix897 - sadly true. Ms. Mojo was a bit heartless at 27:45, about him being up for the task of that role. The Joker broke him. We lost a great talent when Heath left us. 😢💔
Rest in peace Captain Holt
Marlon Waynes- Requiem for a dream
THANK YOU! He went beyond the "Wayan's Brothers" stereotype. Yet, this list is only 30 actors long.
He also played a serious role as Will’s father in Bel Air
I just saw 12 Angry Men in a theater recently. It was even better than I expected
The perfect movie. Can't find anything wrong with this movie.
It's not just Leslie Neilsen, the entire supporting cast of Airplane were classic action types, and were hilarious playing roles 100% straight. You also had Robert Stack, Peter Graves, and Lloyd Bridges. Also, there is the Barbara Billingsley - most famous as June Cleaver in Leave it to Beaver - as the Jive speaking woman
Jason Bateman and Bob Odenkirk both broke type casting when they did more serious roles in their shows like Ozark and Better Call Saul
Odenkirk's "Saul Goodman" character was originally featured in "Breaking Bad."
@user-yq2zi5iz9i yea he originally broke type casting on BB
@@RandomRay1Not really cause Saul was the comic side kick of BB while Jimmy is a more serious and sad character in BCS
@@katireviews well said. Odenkirk broke type casting in BB
Tiny Lister/Deebo, Fifth Element! He’s always known for playing villains, bullies, bodyguards, brutes, etc. in Fifth Element, he played the president
There were a lot of actors that could've made the list, but they're only doing 30. He was also a hero in "The Dark Knight."
Hugh Laurie in Jeeves & Wooster/A bit of Fry and Laurie etc. and then doing House
Yes! Everybody on this side of the pond knew Hugh Laurie as a comedic actor and one half of a comedy double act with Stephen Fry. His role as the idiotic Prince Regent in Blackadder III is a bonafide British comedy _classic._ So his casting as a serious American doctor in House completely blindsided everyone, and by all accounts he was excellent. That has to be one of the best examples of typecast-breaking out there.
Yes! Thank you
Melissa McCarthy was in Gilmore Girls. She played a character that was serious.
I hate that people forget that Leo played a horrible villain as King Louis in The Man in the Iron Mask. Also, he wasn't really a hero in Blood Diamond either.
Michael McKean's very serious, mentally unstable Charles McGill from "Better Call Saul". He spent most of his youth being a comedian. He was a cutup as Lenny, from Lenny and Squiggy on "Laverne and Shirley." After that he was David St. Hubbins in "Spinal Tap." Amazing actor and musician.
Tom Hanks definitely flipped the script. I knew him as the guy from splash and the money pit and then bamb Philadelphia and Forest Gump and he was the greatest actor ever
Ever seen Bosom Buddies ?
He's come further than you think.
@@CraftAerodon’t forget Big (1988) where he played a man trapped in a child’s body - I’d say that’s more out there than Forrest Gump
What about Pat Morita in Karate Kid? He was a comic actor from Happy Days.
Bryan Cranston was intimidating in Breaking Bad. Best casting choice.
For Robin Williams insomnia was the one where he played a great villain. It came out around the same time maybe a year or less later it was also a early Christopher Nolan movie way better than one hour photo
I'm surprised Farrah Fawcett wasn't mentioned for her dramatic turn in "The Burning Bed" which shifted her entire career. She was no longer just one of Charlie's Angels
Walter White is one of those characters that, no matter what Bryan Cranston does from now on, even if it's a movie like "The Room", his career will always be a success. Such iconic roles don't come around often. Two other great examples are House and Buffy.
Though, of course, Hugh Laurie was already highly successful as an actor in the UK before he went to Hollywood.
In my eyes, Robin Williams broke out of the comedy box with his titular role in the film "The World According To GARP". His performance was both beautiful, and heartbreaking. R.I.P. Robin, and thank you for sharing your brilliance with all of us. ✌️& 🫶 🏳️🌈
Rodney Dangerfield also played against type in Natural Born Killers, playing an abusive husband and father.
Mary Tyler Moore really broke my heart as the cold, grieving Beth in "Ordinary People", a far cry from Mary Richards.
You mean heart.
Or Laura Petrie, "Ooooh, Rob !"
Ordinary People is one of my favorite movies. Great performances by all actors.
She was so good that it was hard for me to like her after that role. Kinda like Louise Fletcher in One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest.
Jamie Foxx actually won the Oscar for Ray. Don't know why that wasn't mentioned.
John Lithgow going from 3rd Rock from the Sun to playing a serial killer on Dexter. Or the reversal. I believe he started playing villainous characters and thought 3rd would be a fun change.
Also cranky and complicated Winston Churchill in the “Crown”.
The one that comes to mind that is not in this list because the film isn't well known, is Ed Harris in "Just Cause." OMG!! That performance is over the moon! I've never seen him play such a psychotic character before and he was 100% believable! Always gives me the chills.
INCREDIBLE movie!!!
And few people realize it was one of Scarlett Johansson’s first films. Amazing performances all around. Love Ruby Dee! “It’s gotchyo name on it!”
Robert Downy, Jr‘s performance in “Oppenheimer“ deserves a mention.
huh? no. look up rdj’s previous work
@@spaghettitube7784 I‘m familiar with his previous work. I‘m saying this role obliterated his years as Iron Man.
@@michaelmonthey5974 only for youth. Everyone 30 or older knew him for his drug addiction, prison, and HUGE fame from the 90s. The man embodied Charlie Chaplin. He was great in Iron Man - but no one was surprised by his amazing acting. They were surprised by his sobriety.
I don't agree, considering the different type of roles he played way before Ironman. But yes, It's nice that newer fans realize that yes, the man is an actor, period.
@@Elora445 Quite a few actors on this list, including Matthew McConnahauy and Michael Keaton, had actually done roles that were the exact opposite of what they specialized in for a number of years. The same could be said about RDJ, who played Tony Stark and other characters like him for over a decade before he was cast as Lewis Straus, which didn’t have any of the Iron Man traits.
Henry Fonda in "Once Upon A Time In The West" gave me chills. He was a stone cold villain.
Christopher Walken in Hairspray
A bunch of great picks, but I especially like serious actors going comic. I'm not all that impressed with Jeff Daniels becoming buddies with Jim Carrey, but I love your analysis of Andre Braugher becoming Captain Holt. One of my favorite bits was the others hinting that he might have a pet name for his partner, to which he replies, "I call him Kevin." That kind of deadpan hilarity requires great writing. Along with Leslie Nielsen, dramatic actors Lloyd Bridges, Peter Grave, and Robert Stack did some great deadpan comedy in Airplane.
I would love to see a video for 30 actors that became directors.
Nobody going to say Alonzo from training day ?
Damn!! I was going to post a comment saying Denzel Washington = Training Day......but you beat me to it. Great shout. At least deserves an honourable mention. 👍
Right? If they included Tom Cruise being a great villain in Collateral then they should have included Denzel’s incredible performance in Training Day. I mean he won the Best Actor Oscar ffs.
Leonardo DiCaprio did not stop getting type casted as "boyish" characters until he stared in Gangs of New York.
Anthony Perkins is just a 1950s heartthrob...right?
Ooh good one 👍🏻
Wonder how many people from the target demographic for this channel have actually seen the original "Psycho"? Even if they know the phrase "shower scene from Psycho".
Andre Braugher was fantastic in the movie "Duets". Although he didn't actually sing in the movie his acting was phenomenal.
Michael Keaton in Pacific Heights should have made the list instead of Batman.
There would be no Batman for Keaton without Clean and Sober
Thank you!!! I was looking for this comment. That was an outstanding movie!
@@Emjay-kc9td one of my favorites. Such a great cast. I think it was right after The Dream Team which was a more serious comedy for him.
Robin Williams is the best! R.I.P
I dunno about including Harrison Ford.. he was never sterotyped, I thought.. even before What Lies Beneath he broke type with Regarding Henry, The Fugitive, Presumed Innocent, Sabrina.
Denzel Washington for Training Day would have been a better choice
Matthew McConaughey was in several dramatic movies before Dallas Buyers Club. It’s just that that finally gave him the accolades he deserved.
He should stick to dramatic films because that's where his strengths as an actor lie tbh
Well considering "Stranger than Fiction" came out 3 months after "Talladega Nights", then I would say 2006 was Will Ferrel's greatest year...
*Heath ledger and Steve carell👏*
Why are you celebrating Heath Ledger’s role as the Joker? Preparing for that role is what KILLED HIM.
We need to stop rewarding this kind of self-destruction and applying this much pressure for actors to perform.
@@Trix897 No it's not. A lot of the rumors about Heath Ledger's death aren't even true.
Mike Myers in " Inglorious Bastards" he was really good in that role
Leo kinda was wild in the Man In The Iron Mask but i guess Watch Mojo missed that one
Heith ledger gave the best joker performance on screen Mark Hamill will always be the voice
Kurt Russell anyone? ANYONE? The guy did forgettable Disney movies until John Carpenter made him Snake Plissken in “Escape From New York”.
Good call. Kurt Russell was the teen Mr. Disney. Snake Plissken will never be mistaken for anything Disney.
I was reading the list first. Kurt Russel was my pick. He actually moved genre a few times from kids, to action, to romance, to drama. His first action role was Big Trouble in Little China though, in 1986.
Alan Ritchson - Going from one of the most iconic tools as Thad Castle to a soft spoken action hero as Reacher
Tbh if u saw this is where I leave you....u knew Bateman was more than just comedic...he's always had a tragic darkness in his characters
Plus, he was a creepy ped* on Juno
Leo broke type casting in Shutter Island before Django
Melissa McCarthy to me is forever Suki from Gilmore Girls. There she really showed her wide skill range from comedic to downright dramatic. Her taking upon cinematic roles of different characters in various genres was really no surprise to me.
Woody Harrelson played the general in war for the planet of the Apes. That was amazing performance
Thought the Adam Sandler example you'd use would've been Reign over me. What a performance.
Way way before in dramatic acclaimed or breaking their type casting:
Robin Williams: Moscow at The Hudson 1984
Tom Cruise: Rain Man 1988 (excellent acting for Mr. Cruise) - Born on The 4th of July 1989 (Tom Cruise nominated for Oscar Best Actor)
No James Gandolfini? He was a college hippy that was known for plays and family centered acts. The ability of him turning into Tony Soprano is the same level of not better than Bryan Cranston. No disrespect to Bryan Cranston he should have been 2 and James Gandolfini should've been 1
Humphrey Bogart as Lt. Cmndr. Queeg in The Caine Mutiny. The man who was the heavy actor's heavy actor (who was never vulnerable) played an incredibly vulnerable character that cracked on screen.
Ryan Gosling was literally picked for "The Notebook" because it was so out of character for him. The after "Crazy Stupid Love", "La La Land" and "The Good Guys", he was Neil Armstrong in "First Man" and then from that to Barbie. I guess he has never been type cast. When will you do the one of most versatile.
Two: Matthew McConaughey shaved and bearded in “Reign Of Fire”(2002)
And
Brad Pitt breaks from pretty boy heartthrob to psychotic eco-terrorist “in the past” in “12 Monkeys”, with a wandering eye and all. ❤
A glaring omission from this is Tom Hanks. Growing up, I knew him as a comedic actor, but he suddenly switched in 1993. Films like "Philadelphia", "Forrest Gump", and "Apollo 13" started to change our perception of him. It also moved him to the A list.
"Michael Keaton got to be Batman! That was unfair to somebody!!"
- Patrice O'Neal 😂
I admire Bryan even more when I watch clips of Malcolm in the middle.
“You’re more horrible than Megan Fox’s acting in Transformers!” Alfred Hitchcock
Hitchcock was such a visionary.
@user-zh4gg5lh4z She's a man. She needs to contort into exaggerated poses to simulate curves. Find a picture of her standing or walking normally. Boy hips.
"Best Mama Jamma ever stood behind a camera"
Bryan Cranston's acting in Malcolm in the Middle felt so par with Jim Carey's acting.
cool video. I love these "top # actors" videos!
Henry Fonda was chilling in "Once Upon A Time In The West"
People seem to forget REIGN OVER ME. Sandler was fantastic in that movie.
Saw schindlers in theater. His Amon still sends chills down my back when it comes to mind.
Omg. So realistic. So horrifying.
Same.
Wanna see Pattinson in a different role then watch The Lighthouse.
When I saw hugh luarie listed as a sexy idol on a TV guide cover, my jaw dropped.
Amazed there was no mention of Gilmore Girls for Melissa McCarthy!
Denzel Washington, like Tom Cruise and Harrison Ford, was a leading good guy that everyone liked. His role in Training Day completely shattered that typecast where he became a true villain. It even earned him an Oscar. I’m surprised that wasn’t mentioned.
Jim Carrey the majestic
I still love when Bryan has a cameo, in Family Guy. All he does is sneeze, and is given an award for it. I still laugh over it.
Leo di Caprio did Basketball Diaries in his teens. That was a dark one.
Hugh Laurie who plays the dad in Stuart Little and House in House MD
He also played Jasper in the live remake of Disney’s 101 Dalmations. I thought he was really funny! Threw me for a loop, seeing obnoxious, narcissistic Dr. House in a comedic role.
how is hopkins not on this
Before seeing Jason Bateman take on _Ozark_ as Marty Byrd, I half-expected Michael Bluth from _Arrested Development_ to be his only successful TV role.
Stranger than fiction is one of my favorite movies. I can't stand the kind of humor that Will Ferrell's movies produce. But Stranger than fiction has a very special place in my heart. Will acting as Harold, is amazing to me.
I also, Break Bad: chef's kiss❤
I honestly snubbed my nose at Breaking Bad at first, then it became my favourite show after season 2
For Adam Sandler, you guys credited "Uncut Gems", but in my eyes "Reign Over Me" really broke the mold for him. He was excellent alongside Don Cheadle. I think a lot of folks skipped over this one, but it's a very good film and really showcases Sandler's dramatic talent.
I love What Lies Beneath. He played a bad guy, pretending to be a good guy so well.
So you're telling me that Steve Carell didn't break his typecast with his gritty portrayal of hardened criminal who never got caught, Prison Mike?
6:49 Ha! Called it!
Meg Ryan in When a Man Loves a Woman or Courage Under Fire, and Patrick Stewart in Jeffrey have to be up there.
Harrison Ford finally playing a villain was definitely notable, but I'd say The Mosquito Coast or 42 showed off his range more - the first is a total against-type character still utilizing that charisma, while the second is a proper character actor-type role.
Logan lucky was the first movie I went to see by myself. None of my friends or family found it interesting. I really enjoyed it
I can’t believe Tom Berenger isn’t on this list. Sgt Barnes balances out his nice guy roles
Ralph Fiennes in The Grand Budapest Hotel for some reason reminds me of Peter Sellers in The Pink Panther movies.
Joe Pesci did comedy before Home Alone in Lethal Weapon 2
Adding Helen Mirren in RED
You don’t expect the woman who played the queen to be a veteran assassin 😅
I can't believe The public Disapproved Mr Ledger on being The Joker
Bruce Dern SILENT RUNNING 1972, Dern had played the badguys and supporting roles. But in SILENT RUNNING, he was the hero of the story.
Steve Carrell also gave a great dramatic performance in Hulu's show 'The Patient. '
Will Ferrell.. anytime anyone says 10am.. 😂😂 "SANTAAAAAAA"
Joe Pesci is funny in Home Alone; my mom and I laughed so hard watching the movie
That was the movie I got to know him as a kid. Growing up, I was surprised that not all of his movies are hilarious 🤣
Robin Williams was FANTASTIC in What Dreams May Cone.
Wanna cry for a few hours? Find and watch it!
Strange, I thought *Awakenings* was Robin's breakout dramatic role.
He had done dramatic stuff before One Hour Photo (I think even What Dreams May Come was before OHP) but he was chilling in OHP and an irredeemable bad guy
Yeah, as @brokenfoxx said, it’s the fact Williams convincingly played a seriously creepy villain in OHP rather than it simply being a dramatic role. We already knew he was extremely talented in ‘serious’ roles.
From The Office too, we have Rainn Wilson in the movie Don't Tell A Soul
