A Parent's Worst Nightmare: Harlow's Fight with Leukemia

7-year-old Harlow was experiencing low grade fevers, extra bruising, and fatigue, but when the pain in her legs began her parents immediately took her to the doctor to find out what was happening. The blood tests came back, and doctors told Harlow’s mother Nora a few possibilities of what they could be facing including blood cancer. Things happened very quickly from there, and Harlow was diagnosed with Very High Risk Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Within 48 hours, Harlow had a PICC line put in, a spinal tap, and received her first dose of chemotherapy.
After two and a half years of treatment, Harlow rang the bell officially signifying the end of her treatment on December 21, 2020. Nora graciously provided this update:
“She is currently in the 5th grade and is 10 years old. Harlow enjoys school, tennis, basketball and hanging with her friends and family. Harlow is enjoying every minute of being off treatment. She never allowed cancer to slow her down and she continues to inspire all those around her.
Harlow is still seen at The MACC Fund Center every other month where she has blood draws and checkups with her oncology team. She will continue to be monitored for years to come. Today we are thankful for all the MACC fund has done and provided for our family as we went through a parent’s worst nightmare.”
