    HWASA and SEULGI could easily be Main vocal in any group, and Seulgi is my favorite vocalist in RV. I couldn't decide between these two, but HWASA kills me with her Falsettes and when she applies power in her belts, and Seulgi nails that vibrato and head voice.

    OMG I got goosebumps with Hwasa. She literally takes it all for me and is not scared to "ALL OUT" if that makes sense. She's a VOCALIST no doubt. I commend her unique vocal ability and texture/tone. Can we talk about her vocal styles? No one is touching her on that page.... Seulgi no doubt is one of the best too but I wish she changed her "nasal style" of singing cause it sometimes sounds like it was whining but overall her technique can be improved and is suit for the main vocal if she is in other groups.

    I think the points you made on Hwasa's technique are super good but it's also sort of what makes her voice stand out for me (and I'm sure many), that combination of having technique but also throwing it away a little bit for the sake of emotion, color, and interpretation. I think she hits a sweet balance of that. She honestly does so much for Mamamoo's sound overall. Her style really stands out.

    Jeongyeon really does give Jihyo a run for her money in the belts department. It's weird that JYPE doesn't give her more high notes in Twice's music. They've been pushing Nayeon and Jihyo to go higher and higher for belts - Nayeon literally had to lay on her back to sing the high notes for I Can't Stop Me - and they got so much hate for not singing them live after that crazy choreography. A beautiful mid-lower end of a high belt for Jeongyeon (maybe the B4-C#5 department) in a few of their songs wouldn't kill their discography, for crying out loud! Out of her belting range (and in it) she has her issue, sure, but she is clearly a vocalist with nice level of proficiency who perform nicley with clarity and control in A3-C5 at least.

    1. Hwasa - clearly the strongest among these 5. Got decent support from A3 to C5. The only one in this list has pushed resonance (not ideal, but still is resonant)
    2. Seulgi - she’s around Jihyo’s level i would say. Seulgi’s strongest asset is her strongly developed lower range, very pushy and nasal in her mixed range. The highest she supported so far are A4/Bb4
    3. Jeongyeon - there we go, the least utilized vocalist in TWICE. Imma start by saying Jeongyeon having stronger mid belts than Seulgi, as she’s more reliable in A4/Bb4 range. Jeongyeon has quite a problem with pushing her chest voice, which carries over to her legato as well
    4. Nayeon - she was better during Sixteen days. Back then she had A4’s supported quite consistently, but now after years of having to sing outside her range and carrying TWICE’s most challenging lines, supporting an A4 is lucky for Nayeon. Just sad.
    5. Jisoo - she has some okay moments of being fairly relaxed in her mid range. But Jisoo hasn’t truly grasped the concept of diaphragmatic support yet. Too much throat tensions

Every single member of Mamamoo (except Moonbyul since she’s more of a rapper position) has this issue, you easily tell they were trained by the same teacher(s). They have similar vocal habits, strengths and weaknesses, even similar supported range as well. The one with the most balanced mix and most relaxed falsetto AND least tendency to lower the larynx in lower range is Wheein. Hwasa is by far the best in belting/mixed because it can be argued that even Jeongyeon is stronger than Seulgi that area. Hwasa can produce resonance up to C5 while Seulgi is already and tight around A4/Bb4 (some said that even as early as G#4). Edit: in terms of agility, idols aren't generally trained that much in that area probably because most of them sing pop music & not R&B, so riffs & runs are kinda underlooked during training. That's why mamamoo is an impressive idol group showing their agility skills in their music.

Yes seulgi's are nassal, but jy is shouty, throaty and strains. That's why you hear more volume. So for me jy and seulgi are tied on belting/mixed reguster. And seulgi is far better in low notes. Her G3s fuller than jy A3s, more consistent, has more clarity too. So maybe their gap is not super mega big, but for me it's quite noticeable.

      Kind of correct. Hwasa used to be a very high average - above average vocalist, but over the years, she actually regressed and lost her resonance. Seulgi is very consistent in her vocals.

  • @johnjackson3735

    Of those mentioned, Nayeon and Seulgi are my favorites followed really closely by Jeongyun. Nayeon. has a unique kaleidoscope of bright vocal color that rises so high in the vocal register with fine projection and resonance which is a really enticing quality so rarely even mentioned and a real signature of Twice's cute upbeat sound.
    Seulgi- compliments Wendy really well especially in their R and B flavored songs. She has a lovely resonant hum and great sense of R and B rhythm and soul in suprisingly powerful belts and when doing ballads.
    Jeongyun - strong clear and resonance delivery in the mid range register which adds a much needed deeper tone to the Twice vocal line. Probably underused in the songs or she would be able to shine more.

  • @CR-ug3be
    @CR-ug3be 3 года назад +15

    Nayeon has better lows than Hwasa. She can support A3/G#3 quite consistently and has supported G3 in sixteen. Hwasa does not even support to G#3.
    Hwasa is by far the best belter. Seulgi still issues with excess nasality and tongue tension which considerably lowers the quality of support and projection. While Hwasa has issues with too much chestiness and inconsistency, she is much more open, forward and resonant than Seulgi. Seulgi does not even support B4 consistently, while Hwasa can maintain support to C5 despite having throatiness at times. But she is still much better than Seulgi. Your reasoning seems to be that Seulgi challenges herself yet is that not an an indication of someone who is not a smart vocalist?
    But anyway good video.

      I agree with you on everything but the last part were you said Seulgi can produce a head voice, which is clearly not true. She uses a falsetto which can be somewhat relaxed and decently projected but it comes nowhere close to what a real head voice is, very few vocalists these days are actually capable of producing one
      (Examples of good head voices lie mostly in older opera singers like pre-regression María Callas, Montserrat Caballé and Joan Sutherland)

      @xeroxsaw1303 3 года назад

      @@pedropaulogomes6703 It’s actually not that, tons of classical singers nowadays also use falsetto/collapsed head voice, but this was not so 50 years ago
      Anyways the main thing is that head voice is really just chest voice produced through a different coordination of muscles, but it really is just the same register, it’s still the modal voice, which is why classical sopranos used to sound strong and powerful
      Falsetto on the other hand is just a different register where only the ligaments of the vocal cords are actually used, and it has a more airy and hollow quality. It can be reinforced to the point where it can sound pretty close to head voice (falsettone) but this doesn’t seem to be the case with contemporary singers
      But that’s fine, as you said contemporary and classical are not the same and a true head voice in contemporary music, put in place of falsetto would sound weirdly strong in most cases, which is why I don’t think contemporary singers should be evaluated based on their head voices really
