AMG GT Black Series Full Review + Best GT Exhaust System!
Today is the Mega Review of the #MercedesAMG GT Black Series! i’ll share with you my 3 year experience of living with my #AMGGT Black, and how I fixed that exhaust to make it one of the most motorsport sounding AMGs ever, and how you can do the same to any AMG GT!
We will also go over the full history of #AMG Black Series, starting from the CLK DTM, to the first black in the SLK 55 Black. And then the better known cars, CLK Black, C63 Black, SL65 and the SLS!
Despite of the success of some of these later cars, none of them broke records or really out-and-out dominated their class in any concrete real world metric. But they all certainly stand out vs rivals as the most desirable of their time in terms of pure emotion.
The GT black is the complete opposite of this formula. It’s achieved the accolades, but does it with far less emotion.
The Black is a whole new beast vs the GT R, in every way. It has a wider body than the R, with a full Carbon bonnet, front wings, a crazy carbon boot, and the biggest wing in AMGs history. Despite this, it’s 35KG lighter than the GT R.
The rear wing is insane, along with its Active element it provides Maximum downforce of 400kg at 155mph, or 800kg at vmax!!
But the big change vs other GTs is the engine. The power plan is still related to the GT R engine, the code M178 BS uses the same numbers albeit with Black Series Designation. But it truly is all new.
Instead of a cross plane crank shaft, we have a flat plane one, thus making the engine more responsive. But it does fire two pistons at the same time, hence the issue with a 4 cylinder like sound! This plus other changes allows it to make 730BHP, 800NM, 0-60 of 3.1 seconds!
Gearbox is a super development. Fastest shift times of any amg in history too. The Mount is made of coiled carbon fibre - and we will take a look at this and all the other the other chassis changes to the car in the video.
Finally, the thin wall steel Exhaust system. The most disappointing bit, so I’ll show you what it used to sound like, and what it now sounds like thanks to GAD tuning and Supersprint!
After this, I’ll go on a full drive to review the car, which we’ve never done on the channel!

Sounds so much better with the new exhaust, much more aggressive. Reminds me of the 720S, sounds bit flat on video, but in person it's a completely different story.
Fucking amazing car.. this is why AMG is my favorite when it comes to in house tuners.. they always push the envelope. They need to get back to making there lower entry cars more crazy because as an AMG fan i have to say BMW M is giving them a run for their money.. I still will choose the Mercedes any day though!!!...

1040Nm of torque from a 4L V8 ?? I really do wonder what the M279 V12 could manage with a tune. That engine has more torque than galaxies.

@@GadtuningCoUk Its a shame Mercedes never put these torque monsters in their AWD cars. They might even be able to compete with Porsche in those million drag races you see on youtube.
the m279 isn't a direct injection engine.
I'd say around 1000 is a healthy figure from that V12.
WIth the stock 630hp you could drive that tank engine a million km

yeah absolutely agree. Steering wheel was the best of them all and they decided to ditch it.
Bloody hell, using the infotainment with both hands on the wheel was apparantly too convenient
Best steering wheel and digital gauge, but I do think pre facelift physical dials on the center console would be even better.
Funny because 8 years ago people complained about this interior. Go with the times old man, Mercedes designers are smarter than you and they know what people want.

Anytime I ever think about upgrading my AMG GT R for the Black Series I just listen to that exhaust and forget about it. Well that and the fact that I can't afford it haha.
Chill bro, that v8 doesn’t sound THAT great. It’s still is a v8 with turbos reving barely to 7k rpm

@@MasterSteve_117lol, S63 V8 is probably the worst V8 of the Germans in a long time. Barely enough torque to pass a Prius on the highway and easily the worst sounding and most annoying German V8 ever. I’d rather have a coyote and that’s saying a lot.
@@ginco_bnz hahahahahaha nice joke bro . Btw it’s a s65 not s63. The s65 has 8 throttle actuators which gives you instant connection between gas pedal and engine. It’s not always about how fast the acceleration is, it’s about the feel of the car. And the driving experience is phenomenal

Ugh the CLK Black 😍. Since we have a CLK 430, that one holds a special place even though I've never seen one with my own eyes etc.
It would be nice if AMG do something crazy with the new GT track models. Perhaps a carbon fiber body or a return to the DCT + transaxle layout, etc...

1. Comparing the design with the SLS Black just shows how perfect the SLS Black was. Still the one that wins my heart, I think the only car that I would choose over, say, a 991.2 GT3 or 458 Speciale. Not that the GT Black was bad, though.
2. I wish Merc won't abandon the hardcore Black Series with the current 4-seater AMG GT. Though it is probably going to be a wishful thinking.
What’s that whine/cry from the front end on the overrun after a rev?? Had the same sound on my W205 C63 and could never figure out exactly what it was…one of the accessory pulleys?
Regarding the launch, I saw Matt Watson reduce the revs and it made a big difference honestly.
During launch control tap on the downshift paddle till around 4k rpm

Another great video! The Supersprint transforms the car. However, you still have the feeling that you're dealing with a four-cylinder engine. A very voluminous racing four-cylinder, but the usual V8 rumble is still not there. This is simply due to the crankshaft and cannot be changed.

All I can think about is if I can get a body kit like that with the exhaust for the regular V8 version.

I'd never buy a GT with the track seats.
The performance seats look and feel MUCH nicer. Also electrically operated. The GT is one of the most luxurious sports cars I have to say. All the materials, burmester etc
The new GT 63 weighs just as much as the new Ferrari Suv ffs.the s performance even heavier,so unless AMG can make the GT black series much lighter than 2 tonnes,then they better forget it

We changed the whole system, downpipes and mid to back box, downpipes now consist of race cats instead of primary cats and OPF

This still cost an absurd amount of money, in the US they’re running for 360k+.
Last year, one amg gt bs was sold in China for 5.6 million yuan (tax excluded) About $800,000
But a Ferrari Sf90 costs about 5.5 million to 6 million yuan.
Lol keeping it stock power levels is the most non American and British thing I've heard all day.. Here in the USA there are a lot of gt r and black series with aftermarket tuning up over 1500hp and very extensive aesthetic and wheel tire upgrades also.. Also here in the USA the exhausts sound much much louder and it's still not nearly aggressive enough for us here so most people put a race exhaust system on with upgraded better flowing and louder headers and down pipes, or just straight pipe it with no cats at all lol.. Thats how we like it here.. But even stock vs stock the cars here all seem to be a few tenths faster than the equivalent British car..

The Black Series is AMG at its best ! Tobias Moers brought a lot of great performance to AMG but totally destroyed the halo brand when he diluted it with the introduction of the C43 in 2015. The AMG badge should have remained on the top dog of any and all top models in each class. Got fired and went to Austin Martin and lasted a couple of years. Today, he’s a greater at a local Wal-Mart. I hear he hands out basket in record speed. Currently, AMG is faced with the disaster trous outcome of the of the current 4cyl C43 & C63. It will be a very long road to bringing the AMG halo brand back to its glory days. Other than a BS, put your money on a Porsche 718 or 911 where resale value remains strong.
I love your videos but what prevents me from watching most of them is the length. I would rather watch 2 videos of yours per day, every day, no longer than 15-20 mins max.
The SLS always felt overrated to me when compared to the GT R, and it feels even more pronounced with the new BS (excuse the terrible pun). Something about its proportions never looked right, from the Renault Megane-esque boot, the tiny windows and forgettable bumper design. People championed it more because they were afraid of the engine downsizing, than what AMG could do if they were given more development time and freedom in the art department. The new car both talks the talk and walks the walk for me.
"Cheeky performance kit porsche had to add" well.. that porsche is almost a DECADE old. This platform is way more modern. Just wait on the new 992 gt2rs. With that said this is currently without a doubt the only good amg .
Oh man...AMG GT Black- please get and drive this car on Asphalt 8- it drives so majestically- like a female warrior- elegant, powerful, magical and true-
Still doesn’t sound as mean as any previous glorious AMG V8.
This car is extremely limited production. The new GT can’t hold a candle to any of the prior gen from mild to this wild. The new GT looks like the SL. I don’t know what Merc-AMG was thinking in the styling/presence end but they have failed. We’re all glad you have the privilege of owning & driving this to share with all of us. I’ve driven a few of these but only the R. You obviously love loud cars. You also have a fleet of cars to choose from. Most of us don’t have that privilege. I wouldn’t want a car this loud inside where I have to shout to be heard. It defeats the purpose & my eardrums as well as my passenger can’t take that. I don’t care for the sound change or the exhaust pitch vs the standard car’s. AMG developed the exhaust sounds & pitch for a reason. Did you ever consider just removing the silencers to hear what that would sound like or straight pipe it? It makes no sense for your USA audience to even consider a custom exhaust like this so folks here are on their own. Cheers from Cali! You’re the best. Happy Father’s Day young man!

Compare this to the previous SLS AMG Black Series and cry, because there's a lot to cry there, in terms of design. These new designers keep creating horrors after horrors, especially when designing the interiors! Just look at what they have done with Mercedes and BMW... The dashboards are a total and absolute abomination!!
I think this is still a great car, and objectively the performance is rivaled by only a few. However, I do understand your point, AMG in general has softened every generation since the W204. So much so, this generation they tried to insult not only their customers but their own heritage by putting a 4 cylinder in the C63.
