There are actually no high heels in this game, what you see are merely 2d textures stretched over 3d polygons. Samus and her enemies aren't truly “soldiers," and the action they perform isn't actually combat, but merely playing computer-generated, simulated jumping, running and shooting animations (quote I borrowed from wskeever), lol. In short, the creator just wanted heels on his protagonist. Maybe because he likes heels. There’s a bunch of made up stuff that doesn’t make sense in reality, especially in a military/combat sense, but you’re focused on high heels… why?
If he wore jet heels in Smash brothers a actual fighting game and I don't see why your making a big deal here and before you say it's not in main games you could make the same argument did here for why

After beating the crap out of Ridley countless times, she all of a sudden found herself unable to even move. This is especially ridiculous considering that Samus' motive for becoming a bounty hunter derived from her lust of revenge of Ridley and the Space Pirates. It's good that Sakamoto tried to make Samus appear to be more human, I just think he took it too far.

I didn't like it either. Hope Nintendo just ignore Samus' aspects shown here and turn her back as she always were.
Well she is not perfect, but this Samus acts more like an schoolgirl than a experienced soldier. And probably it wasn't her emotional breakdowns the main defect that most fans found here. It was the excessive and unnecessary stress that they gave to them.

Meaning unlike Mario or Zelda, they can't just keep making an infinite amount of games, unless they do a reboot, which would piss off a considerable number of fans. As far as her personality goes, I do admire the attempt at character development though I think there's more work to be done, although between Other M Samus and the Mary Sue Samus of previous games, this is the lesser of two evils.

Sure. Not particularly. As I stated before, my Zero Suit makes everything feel natural. On top of that, the Chozo specifically designed the Power Suit and it's upgrades to be manuverable and easy to use. It's flattering to know that people admire my looks. So long as it's just that, I suppose I'm fine with the thought.

I actually do not physically roll. The Power Suit and Zero Suit turn me momentarily into pure plasma, as with the ScrewAttack. Any normal person would instantly disintigrate, but my Zero Suit and Power Suit Helmet protect me from such an event.
To be honest, as a long standing Metroid fan. I liked Other M. There are frustrating mechanics like the hide'n' seek thing and the instant deaths but I like her narration. Sure, it stumbled now and then but a fully voiced game will sometimes do that, I can't really blame the actress or the direction. The three parts I REALLY hate however that destroyed some of the immersion are... 1. Samus being super reliant on Adam giving her commands (some of which endanger her). This is especially egregious when you first enter the fire area and Samus is cooking alive. But she doesn't say f*ck it and activate her Varia Suit until she's nearly dead. I guess Adam dozed off or something. But that particular part made her 'not smart' looking which is the opposite of her experience. If she would have said, "Adam, I'm activating my Varia feature to protect myself from heat damage." It would have shown that she's able to push back against Adam after all these years and that she's a capable warrior at this point. 2. Adam blasting her from behind which causes her suit to malfunction and her to stumble around. What they should have done there is have Adam request that she deactivate her suit for a moment so they can talk to one another face-to-face. Maybe reveal that he has a sentimental side to him and just wanted to look into her eyes (not romantically) one last time before volunteering to die. This would have strengthened their understanding and created more sympathy. 3. I know a lot of people hate the Ridley PTSD part but PTSD is a very real occurence and can often strike without warning even when facing something you've done a million times. I don't mind it in the game. What should have happened though was that after Ridley arrived, Samus and him duke it out for a moment. But he gets the upper hand and knocks her to the ground. As he towers over her, BOOM. PTSD moment. Then Adam could have reminded her of something, some kind of mental exercise he taught her way back when in her academy days which she uses to pull herself back with. Now it isn't crippling to her but something we understand she experiences but has a workaround for. Those are really my only gripes with Other M, I think.

I can see why a lot of people don't like this game after watching this. I think the only cool thing about this game was us being able to play as ZSS for the first time, so it kind of had this wow factor. It just felt cool playing as a " lighter " version of herself in this game and Smash bros brawl. Although, this doesn't seem like an accurate portrayal of her character either, it just feels like a modern 2010 version of herself with an emotional school girl personality. She grew up being trained as a warrior all her life by the Chozo's, she has Chozo DNA, the DNA of a warrior race each with skin as hard as her armor, and if not warriors at least formidable fighters with advanced technology and intelligence. Her voice is off, and she shouldn't be taking orders from anyone considering her track record and her hardened isolated past. I get that she's human, a female, and has emotions, but after everything she's been through prior she should be damn near fearless considering the monstrosities she'd had to take down. Not a true homage in my opinion.

However, by the end of Other M it’s clear she overcomes that grief. (The ending scene where she smiles at the sunset.) But too many people focus on the actual grieving to notice and sum it up to “Samus is too emotional” so I flies right past their heads.
As if she had any character to begin with. In my view, this was the first game that attempted to give her character. But the whiners had their say and now she barely speaks again.
@pirox1234 no.. the manga or the comic? in the manga, the chozo saved her off her colony after ridley and the space killed everybody. the higher ups were pissed because "no human can ever survive the harsh conditions" of the worlds on zebes. (where the chozo used to live). the chozo gave her intense training. the only other coding of DNA within samus right now is metroid DNA. she's the last metroid.
1. That is a really poor representation of PTSD, and 2. Samus first suffered from PTSD with Ridley when she was 15. And then she murdered him, moving on from the PTSD with the help of the Chozo. And she murdered Ridley in Metroid 1, Metroid Prime and Prime 3 Corruption, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion with no problems at all. So the personality they gave her makes no sense. Samus is a calm and collected person. Other M Samus is nothing like the personality that was set for her from previous games.

Other M kinda annoys me in a way because I love Samus as a character, but some of the logic in the decisions made in this game baffles me. I admire that they tried to make Samus that bit more human but I think it wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

Samus is nearly six feet, 3 inches tall and weighs nearly 200 lbs." below this is says "PERSONAL DATA","HEIGHT 6'3''","WEIGHT 198 lbs." Most of all it gives a cutaway image of her in the suit, head to toe the suit adds maybe an inch to her feet and less than that at her helmet.
I didn´t like this game so much...i mean, i thought Samus was a strong and very unique character based in Ellen Ripley from Alien....actually she is..she´s like Ripley. A really brave, strong women. Here she´s portrayed as a...well..dependant female from male characters...which is wrong. I know she has emotions, i liked how she remembered the Baby from Super Metroid i liked that..but still..not so good. Still she´s a really badass sexy chick. She was just sexy in this game..that´s all.

I don't mind it in the game. What should have happened though was that after Ridley arrived, Samus and him duke it out for a moment. But he gets the upper hand and knocks her to the ground. As he towers over her, BOOM. PTSD moment. Then Adam could have reminded her of something, some kind of mental exercise he taught her way back when in her academy days which she uses to pull herself back with. Now it isn't crippling to her but something we understand she experiences but has a workaround for.
Those are really my only gripes with Other M, I think.

I can see why a lot of people don't like this game after watching this. I think the only cool thing about this game was us being able to play as ZSS for the first time, so it kind of had this wow factor. It just felt cool playing as a " lighter " version of herself in this game and Smash bros brawl. Although, this doesn't seem like an accurate portrayal of her character either, it just feels like a modern 2010 version of herself with an emotional school girl personality. She grew up being trained as a warrior all her life by the Chozo's, she has Chozo DNA, the DNA of a warrior race each with skin as hard as her armor, and if not warriors at least formidable fighters with advanced technology and intelligence. Her voice is off, and she shouldn't be taking orders from anyone considering her track record and her hardened isolated past. I get that she's human, a female, and has emotions, but after everything she's been through prior she should be damn near fearless considering the monstrosities she'd had to take down. Not a true homage in my opinion.
You play as ZSS during the final part of Zero Mission so Other M doesn't even have that going for it.

@@derekosgood3230 I don’t understand why people miss the mark on Samus in Other M. It’s a story of Samus going though grief and a form of ptsd following the events of Metroid 3 (Super Metroid). However, by the end of Other M it’s clear she overcomes that grief. (The ending scene where she smiles at the sunset.) But too many people focus on the actual grieving to notice and sum it up to “Samus is too emotional” so I flies right past their heads.

They butchered her character in this game. She went from being an independent, badass bounty hunter to a little girl with daddy issues.
As if she had any character to begin with. In my view, this was the first game that attempted to give her character. But the whiners had their say and now she barely speaks again.

in the manga, the chozo saved her off her colony after ridley and the space killed everybody. the higher ups were pissed because "no human can ever survive the harsh conditions" of the worlds on zebes. (where the chozo used to live). the chozo gave her intense training.
the only other coding of DNA within samus right now is metroid DNA. she's the last metroid.

The personality that Team Ninja gave Samus makes sense. Let's be honest, she has PTSD. Can you blame her?
1. That is a really poor representation of PTSD, and 2. Samus first suffered from PTSD with Ridley when she was 15. And then she murdered him, moving on from the PTSD with the help of the Chozo. And she murdered Ridley in Metroid 1, Metroid Prime and Prime 3 Corruption, Super Metroid, and Metroid Fusion with no problems at all. So the personality they gave her makes no sense. Samus is a calm and collected person. Other M Samus is nothing like the personality that was set for her from previous games.
Well perhaps she's a more human character with hopes, intentions and flaws.
Alex Scott or perhaps Sakamoto portrayed her horribly.

Samus did have monologues in other games, but they had the benefit of being better written and not being voiced so poorly.
Other M kinda annoys me in a way because I love Samus as a character, but some of the logic in the decisions made in this game baffles me. I admire that they tried to make Samus that bit more human but I think it wasn't executed as well as it could have been.

Let me quote the Manuel for you, at the end of the paragraph titled "WITHOUT THE POWER SUIT": "The Power Suit hides a strong, muscular woman. Samus is nearly six feet, 3 inches tall and weighs nearly 200 lbs." below this is says "PERSONAL DATA","HEIGHT 6'3''","WEIGHT 198 lbs." Most of all it gives a cutaway image of her in the suit, head to toe the suit adds maybe an inch to her feet and less than that at her helmet.

I didn´t like this game so much...i mean, i thought Samus was a strong and very unique character based in Ellen Ripley from Alien....actually she is..she´s like Ripley. A really brave, strong women. Here she´s portrayed as a...well..dependant female from male characters...which is wrong. I know she has emotions, i liked how she remembered the Baby from Super Metroid i liked that..but still..not so good. Still she´s a really badass sexy chick. She was just sexy in this game..that´s all.

This is so weird then people say's it's so annoying do hear Samus voice! Actually Samus talk's in almost every Metroid game and Manga series! The only games where she is not talking is the original Metroid for NES and second Metroid for Game boy. But Samus talks in Metroid zero mission what is actually a remake of original Metroid So there is actually only one Metroid game where she is not talking!
