Peter Green's original version of 'Oh, well' with Fleetwood Mac, was the initial inspiration for Led Zeppelin's 'Black dog' with it's pauses for the lead vocals. So it's interesting to see Jimmy Page play this classic track.
multiple times , Jimmy totally bodged it plus the song was much shorter than it should have been and the ''oh well'' by the singer just had no conviction . is this a garage band ? they should roll the door down and keep to themselves , maybe have a hemi revving in front of them
Holly shit. This song is one of those . From 1968. That sounds like 1968 I saw fleetwood live in 1968 and yes they did this . I dident realize at the time that was Peter green I was watching . Mick did a drum solo that was nothing less than amazing .
I'll try to be unbiased here. Page, a renowned guitarist, is covering a song made famous by another gifted guitarist, Peter Green. Page's style is agressive and spur of the moment, while Green's style is more laid back (most times). Page takes a lot of chances, some that dont always work. If Green were to pay tribute by playing a Zeppelin piece such as Kashmir, he would probably not fit into Page's style. It would be unfair to judge a guitarist paying tribute to another. Anyway, its only rock n roll hahaha. EDIT: Rest in peace, Peter Green😔
@@edwardoldham3710 I LOVE Danny Kirwan's soloing! Seriously underrated and not appreciated enough. Amazing vibrato, great note selection and phrasing. It's sad how disenchanted he became with music.
thanks for sharing. I was at this show. I also saw show 4 of the original 6 shows at roseland. though I saw Page several times(including with Plant), this is the best representation of Zep songs that he ever did. 3 guitars and a full time keyboardist brings recorded Zep to the stage more accurately than ever before. it's a shame that Rich insulted Page and ended the tour way too early.
holy crap. i mean...jimmy page. holy fuck - jimmy page. his solos on this performance alone would be enough to immortalize him. i mean...just...no words, man. no words can do this justice. just...blazing.
They did 2 nights at this venue (The Greek Theatre) I was at the 1st show. This clip is from the 2nd night. 4 songs into the show I thought to myself, "This is the best concert I've ever seen in my life!" At that very moment the guy sitting next to me hollers,"This is the best concert I've ever seen in my life!"
Seve's dumming here is beautiful--no showing off - just plain ole good stickwork. Gotta love his no ego style and the way he blends in w/ everyone else.
When Peter Green died, I thought "why did I think this was a Zep song?" I realized it's because this is how I most know it, and think the Crowes played it in non-Page shows as well.
This isn't Page at his best, not even close. It kind of works for the song though. It explodes from the quiet, tense vocal into a bunch of random chaos.
@@Mule4ever123 then you would know that was Jimmy playing at his peak, not with the Crowes. He quit that tour because the brothers are both major a-holes.
Man it looks like Page is fighting with this guitar n Jimmy is winning ha ha what a mistrial they talk about Hendrix n halen but omg jimmy page played this guitar like my dad wd say like no one’s business this is Jess. Cristy husband God bless us all
A worthwhile cover but - for me - not a patch on Peter Green's original! Superior vocals and more soulful; guitar. Oh and the drumming's better on the original too!
In the second solo Jimmy figures out to stick with the Em pentatonic scale. It definitely sounds better than the first. But it shouldfshouldf be obvious that this is an unrehearsed song combing two megatalents on a well known cover tune. A showcase rather than a faithful reproduction. Haven't the critics ever seen what happens on a tribute show where everyone comes together at the end and jams together? Watch "The Last Waltz"if you don't get it.
Aerosmith do an interesting 9:45 cover of this. Green himself can't be beaten. Hain also do a nice modern version. Tom Petty delivers another great version.
one of the greatest songs in rock music
Peter Green had a tone that no one can replicate yet. Good performance.

Just throw in ONE TRIPLET john henry Bonham
Come on jimmy, I always thought it was “overdubbed
Jimmy Page was with Ian Anderson when Jethro Tull were writing Aqualung. Black Dog is more associated with Aqualung than Oh Well.
Jimmy page playing the Danny Kirwan part
of course 🙂 x
thankyou for sharing this..
Holy fuck! There's the Jimmy Page we all know and love.
Peter Green and Danny Kirwan drove this song
Long live (Peter Green)
Best cover in my opinion
Jimmy Page is a God!
Quite possibly my favorite player!
Correction...your God.
I love Green, I adore Page, who is the most prolific guitarist, and he pays tribute to Green.
happy 70th birthday jimmy. my ultimate guitar hero,
Did anyone else hear bits of the 'Heart Breaker' solo in Jimmy's solos on here?

People from two of my favourite bands playing music from another favourite band . How good does it get? As good as this.

My reaction: HOLY SHIT!!!! HOW DID I MISS THIS CONCERT!!!!!!!!
I had 7th row seats but they cancelled the last part of the tour!
I got to see them in Detroit in June 2000.
Boston early July 2000, saw The Who the previous night. (They toured "together" but performing on separate nights.)
Wow. Am impressed. Go Black Crowds.
Crowes. Fng spell f'er.

Black Crowes, The Real Fleetwood Mac and Led Zeppelin. NICE!

Hello. The person who posted this video, larrinazarra, indicated it took place at Jones Beach Amp in Wantagh, NY, not at The Greek in Los Angeles.
Splendid! Kudos to arrinazarra.
Love how the Dark Lord selects excerpts from the second solo in the live versions of Dazed and Confused 👍
Let me cite wise word Peter Green had told to the young Jeremy Spencer: It is not about number of notes, but what you put in them.

Esteban Grande they opened with Custard Pie had to figure out the sound great show though

It was good, but I still prefer the ORIGINAL one.

Danny Kirwan and Peter Green epic twosome. Rivals the Allmans.
