Man we got a motor replaced from Hyundai for free since the last time I talked to you!

I'm glad you had a chance to go on vacation. Impressive forearm muscle separation @6:42 💪 It's nice to see a heathy Kia/Hyundai engine for a change. As always, great video! 😎

Just had this done 3/15/24, a 2016 Sorento with the 2.0 turbo, with a valve cover leak. Almost did it myself, but found it was covered by warranty. First gasket, still leaked, second gasket, still leaked (they said even worse), but they found a hairline crack in the valve cover, back in the area below/behind the HPFP area. New valve cover and another gasket, it stayed dry. Unknown if the tech cracked it or it had been that way from the start (65k miles). Where the crack was I kinda doubt it was getting pried on, so hard to reach or even see (behind/below the HPFP). Just a PSA to inspect your cover well before reinstalling. Service writer told me the only way they saw it was with a bright light behind it. Mine required the HPFL and FP bolts to be replaced (GDI). Those parts are one time use only. FYI, if you have a similarly situated KIA vehicle, be sure to get your ECU updates done along with any other updates that are supposed to help the engine from fully imploding should the bearings go, you will be given a much longer engine warranty period. In my case it was the ECU update that allowed the knock detection system to also detect engine sounds that indicate bearing failure. This came with an extension to the engine warranty that allowed my valve cover to be covered, if I recall correctly what the service manager told me.

I’m on the fence with felpro. I heard mixed reviews on this cover/application. If I’d done it myself I would of used the genuine KIA gaskets. One for the cover and for the HPFP surround.
