    Congrats to you and Sasha! Froze when I tried to comment on the video the other day. Love the 3 sisters variation, chimney liner tower pots & the grain organizing. We need to do this as well… 🤔 thanks for all the inspiration. We just had our third little one born here, so excited for you too! Sending love your way from our family to yours. ❤

    Yeah, this early season dry period has been really rough! Carrying water out to my apple trees I only planted this spring has been a bit more weight training than I was anticipating for a simple orchard planting.

    Most critters absolutely LOVE watermelon. Chickens, ducks, goats, sheep, ravens - they all go for it. My dogs will eat it when they get a chance. I’ve never seen my cats eating it, though, but I had a friend whose cat was nuts for cantaloupe, so it’s not out of the question. Watermelon is good stuff.

    • @edibleacres
      @edibleacres  Год назад +3

      It really is. We're lucky that it shows up in the compost we pick up pretty often, but sometimes we splurge and buy them for the hens too!

      @@edibleacres Also- I believe that pregnancy and Birth is a natural physiological process that a woman should be fully supported and allowed to follow her instincts throughout. It is meant to be an empowering rite of passage to prepare her for motherhood. Our current maternity model and hospital care denies informed consent and undermines a woman's intuition. More often then not parents are left feeling disempowered at best and highly traumatized at worst. Babies should be born in an environment of love, peace, and protection which is very difficult to achieve within our current system. Like I said I'm a doula and birth Attendant, so if you guys want to talk or have any questions you can shoot me an email 🌷.

    A couple questions for ya! Thanks to your advice I have come across a windfall of sweepings/grains from a local mill. They have both corn and wheat, ranging from $2 to $8 a 50 pound bag. My questions: How long do grains keep in these trash containers if moisture is kept out? Also, is corn a viable grain for sprouting in the chicken composting system? Thanks for sharing :)

    • @edibleacres
      @edibleacres  Год назад +1

      Great deal it seems, wow!
      In the metal garbage cans, so long as they up off the ground and have 0 chance of water coming in through the top, the seed seems to hang out for years... Corn and wheat are two main ingredients for our system, corn being one we offer most days but in small amounts (sugar, they can overdo it pretty easy)... Both sprout wonderfully.
      Try it and see, this is all VERY low tech and approachable.
