I don't think I have ever seen 10 meters so hot like it has been in the last couple of years. That radio is a monster. Another great video Walt. Thanks so much.
I had one of these but not the latest version. When I came off the road I wound up selling it. Great activation Walt!🎉
Just had to tell you, I just contacted New Zealand on the G90 using my simple not very high 5/8 wave Ground Plane. Dang this is fun stuff. Thanks so much for turning me on to the G90..
Awesome! 73, Walt
It's wins like this that keeps you motivated.
This is very stable on SSB. Better than many. Japanese HF radios.
Nice!! That Chile station was... 👍👍👍 I love 10 meters, one of these days I'll be able to get on the air again. 73 Walt!
Hope to catch you on the air in the near future! 73
Wow, How did I miss you? I was on 10-meters yesterday and today. Great radio. The 100+ watts is great, plus the Stryker looks so cool. I'm still rocking the G90 and QT80 (which I've gotten 97 watts on). Some of the guys in my radio club were a bit snobbish about export radios. However, when they started seeing the results I've been getting, I've been changing hearts and minds! I'd rather have two or three exports than one of those brand name fancy radios. I just have a lot more fun and feel like I've really accomplished something with my G90 (or QT80) and a homebrew antenna. It's more in the spirit of ham radio's earlier days when you had to make your own gear. Thanks again Walt for inspiring me and expanding my radio knowledge. I hope to talk to you on the airwave soon! 73...Hugh...KN6KNB
Catch you on the air soon! 73, Walt
That's a very sexy radio, Walt. Congratulations on your new toy. It doesn't seem to be available anywhere yet on this side of the pond. Not that I'd want one. I have my FT-891 for 100 watts operation and I already own too many of these "export" radios. Give me a G90 with 100 watts and I'd buy one.
Wouldn't it be depleting your 20 Ah battery pretty quick when on max power?
The 10m band propagation plus the EU contest provided from some good DX over the week-end. For me it has been Indonesia, Suriname and French Guyana among the best QSOs. Would have liked to catch you though. Best 73s!
that radio is gnarly. great video Walt! I love when you make these long-ended videos calling out makes me want to get my ham radio license😊🎉
Go get your license!!!!! 73, Walt
The Radio reminds me of an Old Time CB Radio, I like it!
It’s always a good day when you can make a Alaska contact. 👍
That Alaska contact made my day because he confirmed it in QRZ. I have others but that’s the first to confirm. Now if I can just get Vermont confirmed I’ll have the 50 WAS.
@ That’s surprising that Vermont is the one you need.
I will warn you about the antenna. While it is fairly wide band, it's not as wide band as the sirio mag mount, but, keep an eye on it for water infiltration. Mine was showing a high SWR one time and when I too a loot at it, inside those little dots where the led light is visible, I saw like an inch of standing water, inside. Just something to keep an eye on.
That seems like a great radio. Nice to hear you doing a POTA Activation. Thanks for sharing. 73s de W3CT
Thanks, yes that’s a great radio. Can’t wait to get out with it some more. 73 my friend
Definitely looks like the classic Cobra Classic CB radio, with the physical switches, etc. Enjoy my friend. 73
Yes! I'm enjoying it a lot. 73, Walt
Goddard Park is such a beautiful spot to go for a little walk - beautiful pines !
It really is a beautiful place.
Walt, yes, you really scored BIG TIME! The interface reminds me of my Cobra, from the 70s. So glad you showed me this - I am getting ready to “pull the pin” on the same radio, based on this video! Hoping to find a good vendor. All the best, KQ4IXD
I worked 10 meters a lot during Winter Field Day from New Hampshire and I could not believe the contacts I made, anywhere from Missouri to British Columbia. Your Stryker radio is very impressive o 10. Good show!
Yes it’s a great radio, can’t wait to play with it some more
lol.. I love the colour change between qso’s .. looks like a great radio and amazing to have you posting videos again!
Great video, Walt. The radio looks cool and seems pretty badass. I never Heard of Stryker in my Cb days but that was in the late 60's early 70's. 4 watts was the legal out put then. I had a QSO with some Air Force guys in Hawaii one afternoon pushing my full 3.5 watts!! I hope your wife is well and also I hope for a nice Spring as you're back up here with we New Englanders.
Saw you pop up on HamAlert. I'm in Texas, where you were apparently hitting pretty hard -- but sadly, I wasn't in a position to tune in. Next time! 🤠
Next time for sure!
Great contacts walt !! I have a local buy me with the older version of that radio. Sounds nice on AM . He uses a old 10 amp power supply with a big heatsink on back like the radio .It does run radio just fine. I think it is 15 amp surge . About the same on 10 meters last I was out . But was early sun rise and England coming in to NY . later as sun set is VK land for me and west coast . I have gotten Alaska on 10 meters. Nice you got 20AH LiFePO4 battery. With that radio you do not need that peak and tune mod . The ones I hurd done that way sound distorted on AM. It is loud modulation . It does not sound crisp and clear. I see you got great tune on that antenna . Scott's Radios does sell that one. He sets them up the correct way . I got my QT 60 from him and it does great !! Covers the same just 60 watt max. 741 got a QT 60 like mine and did a great video on that one. When the weather gets into spring take that radio to the beach with that 20 AH battery and put counterpoise in salt water. Will be Awesome !! 73
Oh I can’t wait to really get out on the beach with this radio!!
Great to see you again. That looks like a fun radio, especially for a Technician class getting on 10 meters! Their website states $349.99. Great score. Looking at front panel and no selection for CW. Damn!
Thanks! Yeah it’s definitely a voice rig but wow it’s a good one.
For the algorithm...your worth it walty Salty and I hope the Mrs salty is doing better 73 my friend. Alabamared256 wavin a hand ✋
🙏
This is still a radio i need to review…Thanks for the video Walt..73
I would love to see you do a deep dive on this one. 73, Walt
I like your videos. So fun and different!
Thank you so very much! 73, Walt
Great video Walt!
Thank you so much!
Same antenna I run and talked all over Europe with 50 watts
Awesome!
Hey walt, some great contacts there n beautiful looking radio
Thanks! Yes I really like this radio
Fun radio! Great vid as always. Some day I'll actually catch you on the air!
Do you know yet if you're going to make it to Hamcation? I know with work and your wife's health it was a Big Maybe.
Thanks! Unfortunately I won’t be able to get to Orlando but I’ll definitely be at Dayton in May. 73 my friend!
@COASTALWAVESWIRES Makes sense! I hope I can make that, but it might be one thing too many! 73!
They should all be lining up to send you stuff Walt. No greater ambassador for radio than you my friend. 73 M7BLC.
Thank so much for the kind words my friend!
Thanks!
Thank you so much my friend!!
Hi Walt. I think that a possible market has been missed by the big 3 Ham radio manufacturers. I think that there could be a demand for a single band 100 watt 6 meter radio. I know that HF+6M+VHF/UHF radios are common, but I prefer separate all mode transceivers for 6m and 2m.
Well heck, Walt. Now I have to decide whether to pull the switch on THIS radio, or the QT-80. Now watch, next week you'll have yet another radio for me to drool over. Not fair. 😉
You’ll be happy with either one!
I have to thank you Walt
Back in April 2024 you issued a challenge of sorts - why haven't you upgraded your license (video title - Ham Radio Is Not Hard)
I took Tech and General in a single day in 2019 but life happened and I didn't get on the air until mid 2023
When I got back into radio in 2023 I felt it would take far too much study time to acquire the knowledge to pass an extra exam (an odd thing considering that a desire to learn morse code is what brought me back into radio)
Just 24 days after your challenge I tested and passed the Extra exam.
Even though I largely memorized the question pool, the exposure to the questions was itself a good education and a springboard into experiments/trial and error with different antennas and an (as yet - someday) unmet intention to build a radio from parts
73 and many Blessings
That’s awesome, thank you so much for sharing! 73, Walt
I love the blue and green. The QSO´s are fantastic, tks fer nice video 73 Paulo 31JS20, QRV on 27,245 USB js8call wiht OM QDX for digitals and OM Delta Loop.
Thanks! I love this radio
I saw you spotted on POTA but unfortunately couldn't hear you here in KY.
I have the version 1 of that radio from around 2016. Used it on 11 meters before I got into ham radio. Guess I should dust it off and hook it back up while 10 meters is rolling.
73 KQ4RLQ
Dust it off!!
Not going to look up the price. Not today anyhow. I need to use everything I have first Walt. LOL... Looks like a great little radio and I'm sure I will look at it again later.
Great video! Got you on ham alert but couldn’t hear you at the QTH. 73 KE9BQZ
Thanks! Hope to catch you on the air soon!
Exciting ...and really nice SWR there, Walt. Did you adjust/tune your ant somehow?
Yes I tweaked that antenna for a while to dial it in.
A suggestion walt K4OGO send your Stryker to Mike at Scott's radios..he will update any firmware and align it and have dialed in right as he is a vendor..just a suggestion suggestion brother. 73
Yes I enjoy Mike’s stuff on RUclips. Might end up doing that. 73, Walt
@COASTALWAVESWIRES he's the only one I'll buy from its where I just got my quad 6 pro from.. bought it from him he's the man walt..73 my friend!!
Great video. How do you think that antenna compares with the other antenna from Raddiodity??
I really like the fact that this one has the mag mount built in. I think it’s a better antenna
I was thinking you said the Stryker SR-955HPC+ is a 100 watt radio. I looked them up on the Stryker website and it said AM 15 watts/FM 55 watts/SSB 60 watts. Who or what vendor soups them up to 100 watts ? I know about several of the vendors who sell and modify the export radios but I don’t think I saw any claims about souping them up to 100 watts. I’ve met owners of the Stryker SR-955HPC who claimed their radio put out 100 watts as well as some other RUclipsrs. Thanks, Jack Daniel / KF5SGC / Richardson, Tx.
I think you’re looking at the original 955 version. This is the new PLUS version. It says right there on their website “Delivers over 100 Watts PEP” Here’s the link:
strykerradios.com/product/10-meter-radio-955hpc/
@ Thank you.
Once a duck always a duck 😊.
😂
@COASTALWAVESWIRES 73's my friend hope you and wife are OK.
Love cb. Usu have more fun on cb 😂
I do too!
Does this radio fit in a standard CB radio slot in a tractor? It could be an optical illusion but it looks big. I drive a 23' KW T680 with the standard cb radio insert up top with regular CB radio plugs/cables. I just ordered this to replace my cobra 29ltd so presumably I would just connect this radio into the same slot the cobra was in. I keep seeing videos of this radio being used as a base station so I don't know. What say you?
"13.8V DC ±15%... 21A (at 100W output power)" - icomamerica (IC-7300)
"Power Output SSB: 60W(PEP) 10A maximum(with modulation)" -Radioddity (QT-60 Pro)
"Input voltage 13.8V... Current Drain 12A (with modulation)" -strykerradios (SR-955HP+)
12 Amps for 100+ watts??? 🤣 73 mike 🍺🍻
73!
Could also of put an internal fan in it rather then a bloody great heat sink at the back like my icom 706
Hello Walt. Does it worry you that you have 100 W of RF radiation just in front of your face?
No not really because I’m just making quick contacts. I’m probably getting worse from my cell phone.
Hi your 5 and 9
