I downloaded ARMA 3 without having ever played the first 2. Soooo naturally one comes here to you tube to check out a "how to play" vid. I saw a few that will help down the road. But to just get started? None until I watched this vid. Easy peasy to say the least. I'll be coming back here for more tips not just for ARMA III but for any game in the future. Great job.

downloading this game now since it went on sale, glad to find a short how to get started. I just found out all my flight sim gear should work with this game and saw it for under 10 bucks so it was a no brainer to grab it. Ive always wanted to try arma but until i played squad i didnt have much interest in mil sim games, after seeing how much time gets put in by the community though i think its worthwhile to finally check it out.
I just got it last week. Im coming from flying in bf4, wanted to get into dcs but decided to stop by arma otw. It took me 32 hours to figure out how to accurately drop a GBU

Great video that I wish I had existed when I first bought arma I know that lots of people have commented on how many subscribers you are missing but honestly, I feel like you deserve at least 100k, if not more. What a new player could get out of this is and do fairly easily would be the tutorial and showcases, and maybe the "virtual" training but i feel like doing the other 2 first would help learn them faster. Also unless I have bad memory you should of mentioned using the editor to experiment with things that you want to learn instantly, like just spawning in a sniper and a target to practice zeroing targets faster for example. And just like languages, arma is the easiest to learn from a long time player. And joining a unit helps too depending on how they work. (Training sessions? For example, what is ACE, what does it really do, etc. Where do I go to find reviews of mods and explanations, good lists of mods, etc. There's probably 20 good mods I should try, but just picking a few and explaining them would be really helpful.

The best place for mod info at this tjme is the Steam Workshop mod pages unfortunately. I want to solve this problem. It is why I am making videos and mod collections. Stay tuned for more.
Here's a list of 8 mods that I would start with. The other mods includes better NVGs and IR lights, a better inventory UI, realistic recoil animations, a quick and easy random mission generator (scenario) and a mod called Help Me for when weird thing shappen or you want to experiment

Thanks a lot for your help i recently got arma with the sale and just have been binge watching all types of videos about arma to learn a bit more about it and the only problem im running into is multiplayer since i have practically no idea where to begin, as in where to get started should i get mods and try servers with mods?(Seeing most servers run mods now) or where do i find servers with usermade gamemodes? Other than that arma has been loads of fun finished the campaign and the tutorials and even some workshop scenarios for SP and enjoyed them a lot. Anyways, thanks for the begginer guide helped a lot!

Coop: For official game modes, you can play End Game and Warlords. Some downloadable mod game modes that are very beginner friendly are Ground Breach and Escape from Turmoil. steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2773765491 Everyone and their brother will say Dynamic Recon Ops. That game mode is okay, but can often turn into a game where you just shoot people from a hill. It looks nice as far as polish goes, but I found gets boring very fast. Good video mate. Is it possible to change the camera modes as a gunner in vehicles? I don't want to use nvgs while being a gunner in vehicles and would like to be able to use the in IR or white/black hot mode. Thanks

I've seen you mention mods a lot. How important would you say they are? Is it viable at all to play without mods at first and maybe ease into them over time, or would you say that mods are just so important that I have to install some essential ones right away?
You can absolutely play without mods. Most people start this way. If you notice a missing feature that most other modern FPS games have, there is probably a mod for it though. The first one you will notice is that there is no way to jump or climb (you can vault but it is BAD). Thank you for making this video! I just got Arma 3 today and I was so frustrated about how to actually get into gameplay. When I went into quick play I either got kicked from the game because it said I needed to restart it because of BattleEye and also sometimes there won’t be any servers to play with other people. Definitely, confirm that BattleEye is turned on from the Arma 3 Launcher. If that is already on, go to the BattleEye website and reinstall BattleEye per their troubleshooting instructions
1 Getting game modes for solo or coop with a friend. That will not take hours to complete or to be created in Zues. 2 The esse of just playing solo or coop. I am not referring to difficult game play, I am referring to the hoops to jump through just to attempt to coop. 3 The mod were you have to use the range finder to snipe. But it is still to complex for my casual ass.

I built my friend a pc and am trying to get him into arma 3, we play tons of shooters like ground branch and he knows commands its just the sheer amount in this game is overwhelming even after 5 years lol
Yeah. The key is to start small. And be patient. Focus on one thing at a time. Just like in real life military training. And you don't have to learn everything. Just learn what you want.
Bro i bot this game in 2017, i played several missions of the campaign, and 20 hours of KOTH. I get on and off because its just so confusing. Optimazation is terrrible but there really is nothing like it so i keep coming back to it for more head scratches than i care to admit. I have no friends who play this either.

If you haven't found a reason already to buy a DLC, I would skip the DLC and just do the workshop. You will know if you want or need the DLC, that's when you know you need it. Otherwise, I recommend against it

The DLC is lot of money for what you get. Tac Ops is fun because it gives some high quality missions For helicopters, you only get 2 helis and a showcase for sling loading. Ive never played arma 3, but i have played squad.. i want to know if you have to have a group to play with or can you play as a solo on longer pvp semi milsim missions and stuff?
Im always confused with how to start a match, with how to play, what buttons to press, how to pull up menus, how to navigate menus to get to the sub menus, then theres mods, which mods do i need to get on most lobbys. I just end up playing KOTH lobbys. I played boot camp and the campaign alil bit passed the point you wash up ashore.

Most servers in Arma 3 do not have the same mods, which makes finding games nearly impossible without first finding a community who host their own servers. Help Please ARMA 3 community! Recently I have been trying to get into Arma 3. I always wanted to play it since it came out. I bought my PC just to play it and a few other games. I thought surely a 10yr old title would easily run just fine on a Ryzen 5 3600, a Gigabyte Nvidia RTX 3060 12gb OC GPU, and 2x8gb sticks(16gb total in Dual channel) of DDR4 3200 CL16 RAM. how-ever after following various guides and doing a lot of research from what I can tell, the max fps I can get on single player in outdoor forested areas of Altis is 100fps but it averages around 45 to 75(usually 60fps+) but with 99%FPS showing about 45 to 50 in Nvidia's performance Overlay which is all acceptable to me; how-ever in the city areas in the Boot Camp Prologue I get about 24 to 34 fps(Mostly above 30fps) but the average fps and 99% fps metrics scare me in those situations. I can't imagine what that could mean for the game performance during flight and/or Multiplayer situations. Is this normal for most poeple? should I just keep playing the game with this setup? I recently was given and installed an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU which has 10,700 million which is 6,900 million more transistors than the Ryzen 5 3600 but with the same core and boost clock speeds. the 5500 is Zen 3. the 3600 is zen 2. the 5500 has 19MB of Shared Cache(16MB of L3 cache + 3MB of L2 cache) vs the 3600's 35MB of shared cache(32MB of L3 cache + 3MB of L2 cache). I am using an MSi Mag series Coreliquid P240 AIO for cooling and my Ryzen 5 5500 runs at 3.8ghz on all cores min during load. is this setup truly not enough for Arma 3? any help and/or insight would be greatly appreciated. 30 FPS in-game on bootcamp. That sounds just about right for all of us. Otherwise, try out my FPS Boost Guide video and the Performance RDLC as part of A3R.
Bought this and a few of the dlc's about 6 months ago or so at least and now last night i just plugged my computer back in after months of being away and now hopefully the presets for my xbox series s controller will be good to get me started until i can actually set it up alot better to actually do 90% at least of controls with it and then to learn about making my own missions and situations etc.... 😊
Is there a mod or campaign that is just pure sandbox for single player? It seems weird that the developers have made this sandbox game, but then the campaigns seem to be like a standard linear game on a console. For example, after a mission instead of letting me choose what to do next, the game will fade to black and my characters in a helicopter, and when I've done that part it fades to black and I'm back at the base. I'd like an open game where I get to decide where to attack and also my base could be attacked etc. Does this exist? Thanks
Yes. You can play Warlords or Invade & Annex. There are also mods on the Steam workshop called Antistasi, Liberation, or Vindicta. If you want pure sandbox with nobbases to capture, look for workshop Scenarios called "Map" Sandbox.
The biggest issue I have I spawning into a map away from my team. How do I spawn in near them? Also, why can’t I spawn a vehicle or aircraft when I spawn into the map? Very frustrating

The major problem i have right now is that i cannot find someone to play with, i know that units exist but english is not my first language so i butcher some words up sometimes, and im also pretty freaking young so am i just gonna get called a squeeker?
RHS just because they are the basis of so much else content. My problem is performance. I have a laptop. Also a non steam game so i cannot get performance upgrades.

Great question! You dont have to do the campaign. The quickest and easiest way to get into multiplayer is to play KOTH or King of the Hill. Its a 3 team deathmatch feel. You can also play a Zeus game. You can also join an Arma group and they will be happy to teach you a TON After bootcamp and the prologue, you dont have to play singleplayer campaign
Huh? Its literally generic action music in the style of Arma, not to mention the volume is maybe 10% compared to the voice over. If it was loud dubstep or something id understand

Good video mate. Is it possible to change the camera modes as a gunner in vehicles? I don't want to use nvgs while being a gunner in vehicles and would like to be able to use the in IR or white/black hot mode. Thanks
It all depends on the particular vehicle you're using and the gunner seat. Press N to switch between viewing modes.

I've seen you mention mods a lot. How important would you say they are? Is it viable at all to play without mods at first and maybe ease into them over time, or would you say that mods are just so important that I have to install some essential ones right away?
You can absolutely play without mods. Most people start this way.
If you notice a missing feature that most other modern FPS games have, there is probably a mod for it though. The first one you will notice is that there is no way to jump or climb (you can vault but it is BAD). Thank you for making this video! I just got Arma 3 today and I was so frustrated about how to actually get into gameplay. When I went into quick play I either got kicked from the game because it said I needed to restart it because of BattleEye and also sometimes there won’t be any servers to play with other people. How can I fix this? Thank you.
Definitely, confirm that BattleEye is turned on from the Arma 3 Launcher.
If that is already on, go to the BattleEye website and reinstall BattleEye per their troubleshooting instructions

1 Getting game modes for solo or coop with a friend. That will not take hours to complete or to be created in Zues.
2 The esse of just playing solo or coop. I am not referring to difficult game play, I am referring to the hoops to jump through just to attempt to coop.
3 The mod were you have to use the range finder to snipe. But it is still to complex for my casual ass.

I built my friend a pc and am trying to get him into arma 3, we play tons of shooters like ground branch and he knows commands its just the sheer amount in this game is overwhelming even after 5 years lol
Yeah. The key is to start small. And be patient. Focus on one thing at a time. Just like in real life military training. And you don't have to learn everything. Just learn what you want.

Bro i bot this game in 2017, i played several missions of the campaign, and 20 hours of KOTH. I get on and off because its just so confusing. Optimazation is terrrible but there really is nothing like it so i keep coming back to it for more head scratches than i care to admit. I have no friends who play this either.

Hey dude. I played this game for a while, and now I'm wondering if it's worth buying official dlc (and which ones)? Or is it better to find something in the workshop?
If you haven't found a reason already to buy a DLC, I would skip the DLC and just do the workshop.
You will know if you want or need the DLC, that's when you know you need it. Otherwise, I recommend against it

The DLC is lot of money for what you get. Tac Ops is fun because it gives some high quality missions
For helicopters, you only get 2 helis and a showcase for sling loading.

Ive never played arma 3, but i have played squad.. i want to know if you have to have a group to play with or can you play as a solo on longer pvp semi milsim missions and stuff?
You can do all of those in Arma 3. Just know it's take a few minutes to figure out where find what you're looking for in this 10 year old sandbox game

Im always confused with how to start a match, with how to play, what buttons to press, how to pull up menus, how to navigate menus to get to the sub menus, then theres mods, which mods do i need to get on most lobbys. I just end up playing KOTH lobbys. I played boot camp and the campaign alil bit passed the point you wash up ashore.

Most servers in Arma 3 do not have the same mods, which makes finding games nearly impossible without first finding a community who host their own servers. These groups always have people willing to teach you how to use the controls and menus.

If all that is too much, you might benefit from buying and playing Arma Reforger which was just released. It is much easier to pick and play with other people and automatically gives you the mods when joining the server. Also, it looks better than Arma 3 and is OPTIMIZED

Help Please ARMA 3 community! Recently I have been trying to get into Arma 3. I always wanted to play it since it came out. I bought my PC just to play it and a few other games. I thought surely a 10yr old title would easily run just fine on a Ryzen 5 3600, a Gigabyte Nvidia RTX 3060 12gb OC GPU, and 2x8gb sticks(16gb total in Dual channel) of DDR4 3200 CL16 RAM. how-ever after following various guides and doing a lot of research from what I can tell, the max fps I can get on single player in outdoor forested areas of Altis is 100fps but it averages around 45 to 75(usually 60fps+) but with 99%FPS showing about 45 to 50 in Nvidia's performance Overlay which is all acceptable to me; how-ever in the city areas in the Boot Camp Prologue I get about 24 to 34 fps(Mostly above 30fps) but the average fps and 99% fps metrics scare me in those situations. I can't imagine what that could mean for the game performance during flight and/or Multiplayer situations. Is this normal for most poeple? should I just keep playing the game with this setup? I recently was given and installed an AMD Ryzen 5 5500 CPU which has 10,700 million which is 6,900 million more transistors than the Ryzen 5 3600 but with the same core and boost clock speeds. the 5500 is Zen 3. the 3600 is zen 2. the 5500 has 19MB of Shared Cache(16MB of L3 cache + 3MB of L2 cache) vs the 3600's 35MB of shared cache(32MB of L3 cache + 3MB of L2 cache). I am using an MSi Mag series Coreliquid P240 AIO for cooling and my Ryzen 5 5500 runs at 3.8ghz on all cores min during load. is this setup truly not enough for Arma 3? any help and/or insight would be greatly appreciated. I am dying to play this game, online especially! Thank you all for your time and reading this mountain of text.
30 FPS in-game on bootcamp. That sounds just about right for all of us. Otherwise, try out my FPS Boost Guide video and the Performance RDLC as part of A3R.
Bought this and a few of the dlc's about 6 months ago or so at least and now last night i just plugged my computer back in after months of being away and now hopefully the presets for my xbox series s controller will be good to get me started until i can actually set it up alot better to actually do 90% at least of controls with it and then to learn about making my own missions and situations etc.... 😊

Is there a mod or campaign that is just pure sandbox for single player? It seems weird that the developers have made this sandbox game, but then the campaigns seem to be like a standard linear game on a console.
For example, after a mission instead of letting me choose what to do next, the game will fade to black and my characters in a helicopter, and when I've done that part it fades to black and I'm back at the base.
I'd like an open game where I get to decide where to attack and also my base could be attacked etc. Does this exist?

Yes. You can play Warlords or Invade & Annex. There are also mods on the Steam workshop called Antistasi, Liberation, or Vindicta.
If you want pure sandbox with nobbases to capture, look for workshop Scenarios called "Map" Sandbox.

The biggest issue I have I spawning into a map away from my team. How do I spawn in near them? Also, why can’t I spawn a vehicle or aircraft when I spawn into the map? Very frustrating

Great question! You dont have to do the campaign. The quickest and easiest way to get into multiplayer is to play KOTH or King of the Hill. Its a 3 team deathmatch feel. You can also play a Zeus game.
You can also join an Arma group and they will be happy to teach you a TON
After bootcamp and the prologue, you dont have to play singleplayer campaign

If you mean one click to ADS and one click to zoom, then you can change your controls to automatically zoom when ADS to make it a single click
