So when it’s an entire root like that, you’re not going to get really anything out of it if you just throw it in hot water like that. Imagine pouring hot water over big chunks of carrots and just drinking the water. You won’t get much flavour or nutrients, right?
If you want to try ginseng tea, you can get the ones that’s been made into a power (either straight up ginseng powder, or dehydrated ginseng concentrate) or dried ginseng slices. I would recommend the powdered kind because you can find sweetened variations, and you won’t need to figure out proportions, time, etc yourself.
The ones you have there are better suited to soups and things like that. You can still make them into a tea, but you’ll need to go through the same process of boiling, then simmering/letting it sit covered as you would a soup.
Try not to have ginseng before bed, or even in the evening if you’re not used to it. People who are currently sick, in the early and middle stages of recovering from an injury, or on their periods should also avoid ginseng. It’s quite strong and can be too much for an already imbalanced body to handle. Good luck!!!!!

And if you want to get it cut, I suggest you go to a Chinese medicine store or like an herbalist and they have the special knife that can cut through that piece of ginseng and sliced it up into pieces for you. Because you can’t use an ordinary knife to cut it because those things are super hard to cut.
