So this obviously isn't every way to burnish leather, but definitely some of the most common. Let me know your favorite method to use and how you prefer to finish your edges!

I started doing a 220, 400, 600, 1500 and finish it off with tokinol. I then will add beeswax at the end using a heat gun. If you accidentally get tokinol on the face of the leather you can put it on the entire piece and it will burnish up nicely- it basically gives it a forced patina.

I use Martin’s Mix and canvas. It will give a dark burnish on natural veg. Ron’s Edge is also popular but haven’t tried it yet. Don’t like Tokinol or gum trag as they act as a resist.

I’ve never heard of those before, I’ll have to try them out

I like you started out with one and have have stock with it for years. That one was Gum Trag. I have watched many videos on burnishing and have come to the conclusion it is personal experience and preference. And, I have seen some that take the sanding to the extremes, Up to 1500 grit. I like your discussion and conclusions. i appreciate your attempts to keep things constant. I did notice you hand burnished each peace. Who, wasn't your wrist tired? I would like to see your results using the electric burnisher. That would give that extra friction.
Columbia Wax is a mixture of paraffin and bees was with resin added.
Now edge paint is a different animal.
    Good video!
    Keep them coming.

Wonderful comment, thank you. I actually ended up doing the first and second parts of most of the burnishing by machine and finished the top layers off by hand. I cut it out of the video due to time and because I didn’t think it made a difference enough to extend the video further. 100% agree it’s personal preference. Finally getting my hands on other methods I was so shocked to see how viable each method was and loved seeing the strengths and quirks to each. Super fun project but it was definitely tiring haha

I have found a small hand held Dremel from Harbor Freight and some different burnishing wheels from Amazon. This works great right at my work station and I don't have to get up and set up the sanding/burnishing machine . I have limited space and do not have such a machine constantly out. Guess I'm getting lazy in my old age. Ha!
keep your videos coming. I enjoy watching.@@champagneleatherwork

Thorough, detailed and well explained. Have also tried glycerine soap. Preference? Water, dye, tock, sometimes beeswax. Thnx, Jerry

I have used gum trag for a while cuz I bought a jar and it goes a long way. I think it helps stick the fibers, which water doesn't really do(?). I also use edge kote. I just bought a burnishing attachment for my dremel and I'll try that on a wallet I'm building now.

Gum trag definitely made the fibers more slick, water was surprisingly efficient though. Never used water until this video and was actually really surprised. Dremel attachment is so handy, I use that frequently!

What about how long it will last. Will the burnish vanish? I have heard that only water burnish last the shortest ,tokenol in middle and gum the longest.

Sanding is the secret not the edge product except for the water. Water is not an option for me.
