I used to live in New Mexico, but I moved. One thing I miss is waking up in the morning and finding a massive tumbleweed the size of a chair on my front porch.
Technically, the French third, fourth and fifth republics were also the result of losing wars (second empire in the franco-prussian war, vichy France in ww2, and the 4th Republic in the Algerian war)

In regards to the meme about the nuke being lost in North Carolina, it was actually two. One was recovered because its parachute got caught in a tree. The other landed in the ground that has a very shallow water table. The more they dug to get it out, the deeper it sank. The immediate area surrounding it was bought by the government, which in turn is surrounded by farmland. Oh, and Faro is pronounced the same way as pharaoh. I live about 20 to 25 miles from the site, as did my now parents at the time. If those things had detonated, which they were actually very close to doing, I and pretty much all of my family wouldn't exist.

0:35 That is actually not the flag of no-no France (they used the relular French tricolore flag, however Mashal Pétain had his own personal flag that was the tricolore with a tricolore axe and some yellow stars in it). The flag that we see here is actually the flag of Free France that has the Cross of Laraine in the middle.
I knew that as well. Also "no-no France" could have been several types of France since they did some bad stuff throughout history.

Hey, speaking of near-disasters involving nukes in America, there was the time some nuclear waste fell off a plane on the New Jersey shoreline. The way they decided to clean it up wasn't to just go collect the barrels in a boat though-- they sent a fighter plane to strafe it with gunfire until the barrels sank. People were at the beach that day and could see it from the coastline--some of them were swimming in the same water!

It only didn't in the years 1945-1989, because they were in the communist sphere of influence. Other than that, the eagle always had a crown (since the 11th century I think) :D

People do always forget the Hindenburg was during the Nazi German times. So yeah, it's got massive Swastika's on it. Pretty surreal to see a giant Zeppelin with Swastikas' flying in Manhattan.
Wright Brother is the first of full controlable heavier than air powerd flight. Those are 5 points that at that time is the core of truely an airplane.
1) heavier than air 2) powered 3) steerable 4) carry a pilot 5) sustain flight
Other design flew before that but none is breakthrough in all those critical points all at the same time. (plus they designed and make flyer engine themselves as no others engine in existance was what they needs)
Also their diary is really fascinating, their question and ways to solve all those aerodynamic problems is so underrated.
You can retroactively list the criteria to every invention, so your guy comes out first.

Brazil's goofy kite thing was always just meant to be a propaganda stunt for the media that everyone involved knew wouldn't actually be useful for anything. @@giantWario Basically none of today's planes are based on the Wright designs. No plane has propellers driven by chains. Nearly no plane has pusher propellers. Bi-planes are virtually extinct. Having the elevator in front is very unusual.
