"Magic looked at what nature had created and gave them a soul. Not only to animals but also to substances." And _that's_ why every pixel is simulated. ;)
It makes much more sense if the player were aligned with NONE of the gods, because you fight the agents of all of them in the game. The agents of nature; worms and other animals, the agents of technology; the Hiisi and their machines, the agents of magic; all those wizards you fight. If you were an agent of magic, surely the mages would be on your side.
Noita lore and the depths the Devs went to hide it, whilst still leaving it to interpretation blows my mind. You can tell they put a lot of careful thought into every step.
I want to point out that the true ending of Noita is bringing peace to the world. The Sampo in Finnish mythology was a symbol of wealth and prosperity, granting peace to those who held it. The Sampo is said to have had the ability to produce flour, salt, and gold out of thin air. In other words, it was essentially an infinite source of resources, allowing people to obtain whatever they wished for. When the Sampo was stolen, the kingdom fell into chaos. In other words, the world became imbalanced. In many parts of the game, the witch is presented with an opportunity to complete "The Work," but all but one of these "works" is false. The most notable "Work" is the work of the alchemists long gone, who wished to turn the entire world to gold. In the main ending, you are completing their "Work," but you are not truly saving the world. In the 33 True Orb ending, however, something curious happens. The Sampo is renamed "True Knowledge," and its description clearly refers to it as "the completed Work." When used at the Sky Altar, the Sampo magically "restores" the world, bringing happiness and prosperity back to all of the creatures of the mountain. And thus the world is balanced once more. This brings me to my conclusion: the story of Noita is a story of the forces of magic bringing peace back to a world where prosperity and joy has been lost. The forces of magic, nature, and technology are at war in the caverns, represented by the player witch, the cave creatures, the Hiisii, and the robotic entities in the Vault. At the bottom of the mines lies the mighty Three-Eyed, hoarding the Sampo that the alchemists so desperately wished to use to transform the world into gold- and with it, a portal to complete the alchemical Work. But that is not the Sampo's true purpose. With the gift of True Knowledge, the witch repairs the true Work, the Sampo itself, and brings peace and prosperity to the land once more. That is what the story of Noita is about: the ambassador of magic bringing balance to the forces of magic, technology, and nature by restoring the world with an artifact of prosperity and hope.
Its notable that magic creatures do attack Noita, so i dont think its in alliance with magic, i think it defies all the elements as a whole, just so it can bring peace to the world
Although, there's an issue with a peaceful ending that the restored world has no place for the protagonist anymore, making him find a way to die in order to actually end the story.
@@FuryForged Keep it up man, you got me playing Noita again after i completely forgot about it in my steam library. One of the best roguelikes we've ever seen, thanks for keeping us all up to date and showing us all the secrets!
SPOILERS I find it interesting that the first of the 3 eggs rolled away and "cracked" instead of properly hatching. From that same egg came life, death and nature, but would things have been the same if the egg had simply hatched? Maybe nature would still have come out, but "perfect" without the hindrances of life and death (that seem to be the consequence of the egg cracking). So maybe that is why alchemists are looking for eternal life, they are trying to find the "true nature", what life would have naturally been had the first egg not cracked. In that sense, turning the whole world to gold seems to eradicate life and death... then maybe the Noita truly is a creation of alchemists, a creature trapped in an infinite cycle of rebirth until it can complete the work and eradicate life and death.
holy fuck thats genius and would be really cool also the three eyed protecting the sampo is a creature of magic right? what if magic is trying to guard the sampo so that nature cant use it to become true nature :o
Someone mentioned below that the player is possibly the agent of technology, rather than magic or alchemy. However, they mentioned that despite the use of wands, they must still be the agent of tech. But I notice now that one of the scriptures mentions nature being given technology with the hatching of the third egg. The wands don't seem to really be magical: They have numbers, stats. This leads me to believe that wands are not magic, but technology, where a spell is a "digit" in an algorithm. An algorithm that is made of the spells + the stats of the wand. Thinking back on it, the lore says the third egg came last, bringing technology. But in a later video, Fury suspects the Hiisi of actually being an alchemist creation. The attacks are literally spells, but simple. Inefficient. Poorly made higher up and increasingly more dangerous as you go lower, closer to the Work. The player also finds spells of great power the lower you, but the power does not stop at the work, and wands also seem to stall out at some point. Spells, on the other hand, are unusable on their own and must be powered/focused to be activated. Concentrated Mana is the key to this whole theory as it directly enhances wands! The icons over two of the new single-use perks are the very same as the CM crystal icon, seemingly implying some form of crystalized mana is the solution to the confusing problem of how the wands actually work. The combination of alchemy, magic, nature, and technology is what makes the player so powerful. But what part is technology? The wands have not been described as far as I know, so I don't what they're made of or how they even function. But it seems to me that they are most likely Technology, powered by Alchemy, that casts Magic to change Nature. Another thing: These perks, are they magic? Or alchemy? Or technology. Same for spells. I feel like we're so focused on the background lore that we're not asking the most important questions: Why is all this here, right now, in so many different ways. Why are the perks there? Shops, too? Who are you even giving that gold to? A god? If so, which god is selling you perks/spells for GOLD? Wait, gold? What kind of god cares about gold? Oh. Perhaps not a god. An Alchemist. I apologize if this is a bit long and convoluted I had to rewrite this a few times and it will likely be buried, but I can dream of being pinned, eh? :D Thanks for the fantastic content as always Fury!
For what it is worth I haven't played a ton of Noita, nor do I know all the secrets, but I think the fact we aren't given a purpose or mission tells us a lot. I personally like the idea that we aren't any specific entity, but a curious wizard/alchemist following in the footsteps of those that have come before him. At this point, I only just learned I don't need to get turned to gold after the final boss, so maybe the fact we get to choose our ending lends to the idea we only interact with these gods and factions because we are trying to change our fate and break a cycle. Btw I love all these lore videos, keep up the good work.
yes! we are breaking the cycle of the gods resetting the world for us to turn it to gold again and agian for them to gain power... for something... but we are the main cog in this machine, and the character, by choosing to break the cycle, doesnt want to give power to gods, and inslead maybe wants to becaom a god too, so, why give the gods power? its like building a castle for the kingdom thats going to raid you later.
I don't think the Noita was sent by the alchemists. As the only non-enemy character in the game, I think the Noita is acting independently. I think the alchemists failed at their work and were either corrupted or cursed by the gods to become what they are now. Seeing as Hiisi are also able to use wands, I imagine it doesn't take much skill to use wands. It's possible that the Noita is an experiment by or even a child of one of the alchemists which is why they have the same robes and why they want to obtain the Sampo, but I got the impression that the alchemists became those monsters a long time ago. You do have to be special in some way as the only one who can use the portals to the Holy Mountain and the only one that the gods get angry at (whether or not it was intentional). Also some things I noticed: I don't remember if you mentioned this ever, but the tablet next to the lava lake talks about how money, specifically "silver and gold", mean nothing to a person in constant fear of death, so medicine is invaluable , which indicates that these are the two objectives of "alchemists". The two secret liquids happen to allow you to use something dead to create gold and create a "medicine" that heals you. Before 1.0, there were 2 minibosses in the game. 1 in the Pyramid, a place that seems to represent the egg/deity of magic, and 1 in the underground jungle, a place that seems to represent the egg/deity of nature. There are a couple new minibosses in 1.0, but still none that represent technology. The Noita also can't use technology. The Noita can use magic. Because they have a stomach and are able to be sick, I assume the Noita is an "animal", thus "part of nature". Only Hiisi can use technology though. This could be because Hiisi are more technologically inclined creatures while the alchemists were a race of more magically inclined creatures before they became what they are. This begs the question: If Hiisi = Nature + Technology and Alchemists/Noita = Nature + Magic, what is Magic + Technology? I could be overthinking the trinity or maybe wands are supposed to be technology. Idk, but those are my thoughts.
I dont know what Magic + Technology may be however it does sound like something with incredible power for some reason or another also in most worlds Magic and Technology usually exist separately maybe(?) there is reason for such a thing and the combination would be a much more cursed, unnatural power
Maybe there's no such thing as Magic + Technology, as the egg of Nature was what created life and death, therefore a conjunction of the powers of Magic and Technology would not produce a living being (meaning wands might just be this creation, they're a technology capable of wielding magic, but they have no life)
To me Mina is an aspect of death and destruction. Everything you do as Mina is chaotic, against the rules, exploitative, destructive, and every step you take is absolutely soaked in blood. All of the most upfront and easiest endings result in the complete destruction of the world. To not destroy the world you have to go very, very far out of your way. But in doing this peaceful ending you will most likely have killed upwards of like half of the inhabitants of the world, including a lot of the faction leaders, and you will have most likely ravaged the world to peices during your efforts. So it's kind of like a peace through death kind of thing.. I think what ever created the world of noita sent Mina to end the squabbles between the factions.. by killing everything in her path, with zero remorse. Why else would gold spawn on the bodies of the deceased. It's Mina's reward, for doing her duty. Or Mina represents the natural and inevitable creation of insanity. A free agent in opposition to the natural order, or what has become the natural order, of the world. Turning the entire world to gold, including yourself, is some seriously chaotic natural shit..
My theory on Noita's lore is that the Noita is actually a failed experiment of the alchemists and that is why they creatures in the ancient labratory want to kill you. The reason behind why the Noita is a failed experiment and not everything else in the AL is because the mobs there bear the ability to use magic without needing a wand or something to cast magic with. Alternatively, both the Noita and the mobs of the Ancient Labratory are failed creations and the alchemists are trying to find a balance between being able to control magic and not being driven mad by magic (which could be the result of the AL mobs.) This could also explain why there are some AL mages in the Temple of the Art since they could be on a journey to get the Sampo.
@chaos Insergent I can find an explanation on where the 33 orbs are by nymphs and someone fighting the 33 orb boss but nothing on the ending... If you don't mind do you know anyone who has so I can watch them?
when you think about it, an alchemist is like the mediator or middle ground of all three "gods" they are living beings, who use magic, with the help of technology perhaps the character we control is an alchemist since if they were an agent of any one of the three faction, either the wizards, animals, or hiisi bots would be peaceful to them but they're not
What if we are the Agent of Technology? We show up last, just as the last Egg is shown to be Technology. Magic and Nature disagree, which lends credence to the theory that we are an Agent of Magic, however, we can also increase the Love in the world and even befriend the Stevari. So, I propose the thought that Perhaps the Noita, while capable of using Wands, is the Agent of Technology. After all, do we not fix wands and spells, and gain hints to acquire the lore via an Anvil? A "device" of the Hisi Base? SPOILER EDIT: What's even more convincing to me is that the Noita is sent to complete the Work, which would be another idea lending to the fact that the Noita serves Technology in some way.
Bruh I'm pissed I didn't find you sooner. Now I have to literally go back to you very first noita video because this game is more massive than minecraft craft alchemy wand tech bosses unlocks. 👏 thanks
I feel like Noita is an alchemist afterall, despite commonly accepted theory that noita is an agent of magic it makes more sense - we already see mages of various studies below the mountain, but we see no alchemists; yeah, some enemies throw pots at you but they didnt delve into the alchemy itself, we never see enemies combining elements on purpose (I understand that may be a game limitation or smt else). Imho, the alchemists were below the mountain before, hence the vault, the laboratory, temple of the art, statues and other places/things that indicate some sort of culture tied to alchemy, but 3 gods took it from the alchemists and we are one of the alchemists who survived and is going back (or ofc a new alchemist who followed the path alchemists made before) to take the sampo and finish the work, which was interrupted by 3 entities. This also makes sense - 3 entities dont want everything to be gold, hence they are defending the sampo from the hands of alchemy and when you screw around with the temples, you anger the gods. Wouldnt make sense if you were able to anger the gods that (one of them anyway) sent you there. Also, it is obvious that various things ranging from wands and potions to the temples werent ment to be used by noita - when we take a wand/potion/perk/item the pedestal bleeds, showing corruption, and the temples collapse after use, showing that we are probably using them improperly. So all in all, products of 3 entities allowed humans to exist, evolve and figure how to transmute things. And now the 3 entities are fighting what they, by accident, created.
The blood doesn't mean corruption, so I don't think the player taking items means they're corrupted, but that they're dead. Also, if you don't kill any enemies before you get to a temple, water is expelled instead of blood
@@Crimpleyy saying that pedestals 'die' is a weird thing, but in world of noita it well may work. Though usually in fiction blood coming from an artifact is used to represent evilness/corruption Water appearing instead of blood on pacifist run is smt I didnt know, water is a common symbol for cleanliness, it may suggest that only when you steal or kill is it considered a 'sin' by the pedestals/gods
@@Crimpleyy wow the water o the pacifist run is something I didn't notice and it kinda changes things. I wonder if there is a secret ending for a full pacifist run, and what about 13 orb pacifist run, and what about 33 orb pacifist run :OOO
@chaos Insergent not sure big noita is a creation of magic, Im tempted to say that its one of the spirits of alchemists who worked there and now protects the place(?)/been corrupted Worm for tech makes total sense, same for nature Maybe the squidward for magic?
That's a great video! You're a true experts at finding such secret things! The lore of this game is well done without doubt, perfectly fits it's mysterious setting
(Lore Spoilers) VVVVVVV I was quite shocked when I saw the new late game enemies in Noita. I definitely think now that the 2nd lore possibility mentioned is the truth. However, what interests me is what the pursuit could possibly be. The sampo holds such great power, but they decide not to wield it and instead push it further. It’s probably some Finnish mythology stuff that I don’t know, or maybe the answer is already clear. What’s also interesting is that it redefined the end goal in a way. Since all the alchemists are seemingly either dead or distorted beyond saving (???), you seem to have free will, but do you really? Is there still a responsibility to uphold? Is it completing the work? Was it even possible to complete the work when those runes in the orb rooms were written? Turning the world to gold is worthless, as there is no use for that gold and everything else is gone. Perhaps more updates will reveal more. I think it’d be cool if we could somehow find an alchemist that is still alive, or maybe we’re supposed to be the only one.
I think the ultimate end goal of this game is to became able to overcame the urge to play and ultimately stop playing. I can't do it. Not until the tree pillars aren't fully completed so probably never :D
I think part of the pursuit is eternal life, or at least an overcoming of death. After all, the emerald tablet instructs us to the earth from the fire, the subtle from the gross, sweetly with great industry, such that it ascends from the earth to the heaven. Tat tvam asi, thou art that!
The old Tabula Smaragdina seems pertinent here. TABULA SMARAGDINA If all the mountains were of silver and gold, what would they profit a man who lives in constant fear of death? Hence there cannot be in the whole world anything better than our Medicine, which has the power to heal all the diseases of the flesh.
"Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three. Five is right out. Once the number three, being the third number, be reached, then lobbest thou thy Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch towards thy foe, who, being naughty in My sight, shall snuff it." -Monty Python and the Holy Grail
So basically magic and nature were pissed off at eachother and then technology just basically said "Yooooo wazzup" and they both told em to shut up like some sort of sitcom.
Thank you for your work. I think that even developers don't know the answer) and i think that they watching you video and create new lore from your opinion about old patch of lore, and theat patch they took from mythology.
It feels like the player could be either a regular alchemist doing what they do, that is attempting to complete their life goal or how they call it, the Great Work, or a descendant or emissary of the gods that was tasked to retrieve the principle of Salt and return it to the world, cuz it kinda seems like the big guy snatched it for himself(this applies only if the item the boss guards is still The Salt. Big guy still is kinda sus tho). Then there are the emerald tables, which to some extent seem to refer to or cite the real tabula smaragdina, they often mention one of the three alchemical principles which are Mercury, Sulfur and Salt. That, I think, confirms that the ancestors who left these tablets and glyphs were alchemists/gods of alchemy, or perhaps it could be Herm Trismegistos himself(he is often said to be the god Thovt, and there was/is one tablet with his name) the supposed author of the tabula smaragdina. Thats just how these things feel to me, I'm open for a discussion
check out my comment somewhere here, I explain my view there, though I do not know much about tabula smaragdina and irl lore behind it. Would be weird if the boss just stole it from gods/world/alchemists for himself tho, I feel like he's a guard
@@muffininacup4060 Your theory makes a lot of sense actually, with the pedestals bleeding and temples falling it really doesn't seem like the gods are on our side. So maybe they purposely removed the principle of salt so the world wouldn't be all gold, but couldn't destroy it because it is required for the world to function properly, so they made the boss guard it instead?
Theory time: the Knower To Be is the bird that made the three eggs, then came down to try and make everything balanced again (or sent someone), which is the 33 orb ending, or for the witch to be distracted from their goal.
I like the way that they add story to this game, secret and fun stuff to do. But in my opinion revealing all that should give some rewards or at least an achievement
Volume V is direct quote to monty pythons, you sold it. You sold the game to me right there. I mean i was tempted for past mounth but i shall wait no more.
I love all of these hidden secrets, story, and lore behind the game. There for those who master the game, but for someone like me it doesn't make much of a difference... I'm still awful at this game but I love it.
Uhh, sadly I can't discuss the lore of Noita I was surprised how many English words I didn't know But anyways the glyph's writings sounds very interesting and I'll be waiting to read 'em on my language
Another thing to note. You merely woke up at the beginning of the game, when it shows the cutscene depicting the creation of Nature, Magic, and Technology. Why did you start at the mountains where the Sampo is obtained? Did someone, or something, put you there? ... Was this just another one of many Deaths?
Kinda cool that the glyphs tell a tale similar to the beginning of Kalevala. (A giant bird lays golden eggs on a ladys knee which then fall down and hatch and create the world where before only was water. Then the lady gets pregnant for a long time and births Väinömöinen (one othe chads who wants the sampo and is the one who ends up dropping it in a lake)
I suggest you check out the area behind the dark cave- it is now something called "The laboratory". there are mutated (or unfinished?) noitas and different spellcasters. Also, an abundant amount of mana potions spilled. Maybe noita is successful experiment done there? idk for what purpose or by whom though.
we may be "magic" and we need to complete the work, but nature+technology does not want that, maybe, I am so bad at theories, but we must be an agent of magic because we can tinker with spells and change wands and such but the noita got trapped in a time loop, the statue of gold showing up, so we get the true knowledge to get peace with nature and tech, but what is "work" and what happens to the world when we use the salt with 13 orbs, (i think its 13).
I feel the Noita has some kind of link with all the agents (possibly made by all the gods) being able to use all 3 but at a much weaker state then the rest of the creatures. Weaker because unlike the magic monsters, we cannot cast magic without the use of technology, the wand unlike the Hiisi we cannot make technological traps or machines but have the ability to use said wands, just like them. finally, the creatures of nature are all much stronger then the Noita. The Noita has to put in effort in-order to get as strong as them, probably the trade off for the gods working together to make something and not wanting it to be too strong and destroy a world it doesn't care about. So they force the Noita to "lay low" as to not be killed, while providing holy mountains to make sure you are still able to push forward to do your goal.
@@FuryForged basically the story was about a man finding a set of emerald tablets on an expedition and translated them into the tales from a precursor civilization who had lived on a sunken landmass, I can’t remember all the details but it’s quite the reference if they included it as some still believe the tablets exist haha. I love these tall tales
ok you know what I played noita almost completely blind for over 300hours, leaving all these secrets, but I see now that I would probably never come even close to revealing them lmao
@@VB2P360 no, not just that. that's too many orbs. plus all of them are corrupted and requires a lot of ambrosia. also, each and every parallel worlds you visit can be unstable and could cause the game to crash. this could be harder for laptops with poor specs.
@@joops1053 from what i remember, there's 11 orbs in each world, so you only need to vist East world and West world. Ambrosia is one of the hardest things to get, but it can be done. The worst part is the amount of health the boss has. Unless you want to be fighting it for at least 3 hours, you're going to need a one-shot spell like "Touch of Gold", which could be a run killer(or if you don't get "Lava to Blood")
Hey Fury! Love your videos! I wanted to ask...I ran across a plasma beam (which promptly killed me) and a weird statue that I could pick up and kick and it would make a sort of repulsion/blocking spell circle. Any ideas on what these are or their purposes?
Did anyone try to do something with the holy bomb in the orb room where tablet #5 is located? Cause the text is a quote from one of monthy python's movies, it is referring to the HOLY HAND GRENADE, which is probably a direct inspiration for the holy bomb...
In some point of a run when you got the most bad ass wand to do your dirty work easier. I think to myself "Are we the baddies"... especially in Hiisi Base.
I believe the character being an agent of the alchemists makes the most sense, the reason everyone wants kill you; nature; technology; even fellow practicers of magic; is because you are trying to turn the entire world into gold. An alchemist’s true goal, infinite riches.
I know it's a little late, but I'd like to throw my idea out there too. I think the Noita has affiliation with all three of the Trifecta - Nature, Magic and Tech. They are a living being, as a connection to Nature. We know this because they bleed normally, whereas undead style creatures spray bone dust. They have a soul, as they clearly have some aptitude for magic. This connects them to the Magic. Finally, I was thinking about how the Noita could be affiliated with Tech, when I realised; the wands. We see the strongest Magical faction, the Wizards, are able to cast spells and engage with Magic without the use of wands, but the Noita can't. Wands may be a Technological customisation to Magic's gift, as Magic did to Nature by giving every entity a soul. Besides, we see the Experimental Wands can use spells in the exact same way as regular wands do, so there's clearly a connection there. All this makes me think that the Noita is an Alchemist, possibly from the same sect we see in the game. They share similar uniform, and similar abilities/limitations. My 2 theories would be that the Noita is the Alchemist who hid the Notes on Grand Alchemy behind the fungal/evil eye walls. The Damned Alchemist in the bunker may just be a former colleague who seeked to recover the knowledge this Alchemist fled with, who got trapped and perished in the bunker. This then begs the question - why was the Noita spared when the other Alchemists either turned to stone, or became undead? The Gods may have inflicted a curse upon the Alchemists for their meddling with the Sampo, and left the Noita alone as they retired from Alchemy well before this. Or the Alchemists did that to themselves, but that wouldn't explain how one got into the bunker. My personal favourite theory is similar; the Gods cursed the vast majority of the Alchemists for meddling with the Sampo, and conspiring to destroy the world with the Work. The Gods, however, still needed to retrieve the Sampo, and either refuse to work together, after the events during the creation of the World, or can't due to the missing Sampo weakening them. Thus, they left a single Alchemist alive - the Noita. The Noita probably got the shortest straw here - they are cursed with the task of returning the Sampo, and restoring the World in the God's stead (only they didn't really explain anything). Every mistake, every failure, every death has happened to this single person. The Gods have enough power to restore the world to it's unbalanced state whenever the Noita dies, to bring them back, and give them another chance at completing their task. This would also explain why the Gods are so quick to anger, and to blame the Noita. Being an ex-member of the Alchemists responsible for this whole mess, they are already in a bad mood with the Noita, so to speak, and this is only exacerbated by being forced to work with the other Gods, whom are probably still squabbling after the whole mess that was creation. The Noita being a single individual would also make sense - the Orbs of True Knowledge shouldn't be familiar to someone who's never been there before, and a newcomer wouldn't have the same level of knowledge as the predecessor. So yeah nah, love this game, and love your videos. They've really helped me get better at this, so thanks man.
As far as I can tell, the egg of the god of Technology is that robotic egg in the lava, and the egg of the god of nature is that floating hollow sphere that can be found slightly above the Surface so I wonder where the egg shell of the god of magic is, if I were to guess at a potential Candidate it would be the moon
I think the most fitting backstory for the Noita is that they're just some jackass who learned a bit of magic and is on a quest for eternal riches which either ends in tragedy or _extreme_ tragedy depending on the outcome. Like the bad ending you get in Shadow of Chernobyl if you have a bunch of money or countless fairy tales and fables from ye olde tymes
These tablets are referencing a lot of real alchemical material. Specifically, when it talks about sulfur and liquifaction; the Philosopher's Stone, the Prima Materia!
"They made it easier to figure it out, just take to the forge so IT TURNS IN A TABLED WITH UNREADABLE CHARACTERS" I love Noita, but it's sad that to enjoy half of it you have to turn it into a job, so much stuff you need to do and learn outside of the game itself.
The shifting of the symbols/characters of the tablets is a built in game thing. The tablets auto translate which I think is a neat effect. Still agree with you on the words showing up *after* using the liquids not autotranslating.
I don’t think the people finding all this shit out at the time thought it was a job. Pretty sure we all sank our teeth into the mystery all on our own. It’s quite gratifying working together to solve puzzles. Maybe I’m just jaded cause I grew up in an era where most games had absolutely no way for you to know what to do unless you owned a physical paper guide. Look at any old jrpg where you gotta talk to grandma 14 in the corner of town cause she saw billy walk to the pub, but no matter how many times you checked the pub before billy wasn’t there. Compared to that type of garbage, noita does really good
So I find the ideas behind the mythology really interesting. I can see multiple different interpretations. The ways 'Magic' is described make it sound more like it's really just our *perception* and *categorization* of Nature. 'Magic' seems to give materials the qualities *we* ascribe to them. An alternative interpretation is that 'Magic' is the addition of rules to matter formed by nature; 'Magic' is just all the properties of magic that let it do things. Because of the 'soul' description, I think I favor my former interpretation more than my latter one. This leads into my next reading of the text: 'Technology' is the synthesis of 'Magic' and 'Nature.' Humans categorize and interpret the rules of the natural world in order to utilize it towards our own ends. Technology is just using the rules of Nature to make things with purposes we value. BUT HEY, TH-
I think you are the conjunction of all three: magic, nature and technology. You descent upon this world to get to know the history (emerald tablets and lore snippets), obtain true knowledge (13 orbs) and complete the Work, so that once in conflict, all beings can be at peace. That's what 13 orb mountain ending stands for. I find the portal spawned by the final boss to be the final trap, similar to completing the Work with insufficient [true] knowledge, which also brings doom upon the world. That also would explain why other beings attack you. You are the essence of all three and they see in you parts of something they hate. That would also explain why 7 More Love perks cause everything to be at peace. 7 combinations: nature, nature + technology, technology, technology + magic, magic, magic + nature, nature + technology + magic.
Hey Fury, tablet 10 says 'the stone of gold, combine with humour which is permenent water, set in its vessel, over gentle fire until liquefaction takes place.' The stone of gold sounds a lot like the shiny orb, and the permenent water set in its vessel sounds like the water stone. To your knowledge, has anyone ever tried combining these over a fire? maybe in the cauldron even? It seems so obvious that I am sure someone must have tried but I just wanted to ask since I can't find any evidence of this being attempted.
Yup, I have. The thing is, that tablet has been in the game since the very first day of release, it’s an actual real-world alchemic text, and the cauldron wasn’t added until 2 years later. Also, before Noita came out, I had a philosophy professor who told us that when cement was invented, people referred to it as “permanent water.” That little nugget of knowledge stuck with me. Then Noita came out and I read that tablet and was like “oh, that’s cool!” The thing is, that tablet is right next to the orb that gives you the Cement spell when you first pick it up. So “permanent water” is almost definitely Cement in the game’s lore as well as IRL. The stone of gold, however, we’re not quite sure on. But some of us have been doing experiments like this since the first 3 days of early access (when this tablet was discovered) 4 years ago. It’s probably nothing, but we can never be too sure.

An alchemist in a way stands between magic and technology.
Wands is the technology to use magic
you play noita?
I wonder why the other magic people try to kill you when youre a witch
Noita lore and the depths the Devs went to hide it, whilst still leaving it to interpretation blows my mind. You can tell they put a lot of careful thought into every step.
Oh and quick question, did completing these steps unlock any progress on the pillars above the tree????
People survive the first level?
Very cool, nice write-up
Its notable that magic creatures do attack Noita, so i dont think its in alliance with magic, i think it defies all the elements as a whole, just so it can bring peace to the world
Although, there's an issue with a peaceful ending that the restored world has no place for the protagonist anymore, making him find a way to die in order to actually end the story.
@@idleprepress The price for peace, yes?

SPOILERS
I find it interesting that the first of the 3 eggs rolled away and "cracked" instead of properly hatching.
I think the various emerald tablets hint that the "work" which turns the world into gold is just a pointless pursuit of "greed".
3 eggs are also used to summon the gate guardian
:D Thanks for the fantastic content as always Fury!
this raises many questions, I love this comment and will come back to it every now and then to get my brain juices flowing
The aliens need the gold, bring them gold?
Wands can short circuit. So im guessing that the wand molds the mana in it according to the spells instructions.
Also some things I noticed:
I don't remember if you mentioned this ever, but the tablet next to the lava lake talks about how money, specifically "silver and gold", mean nothing to a person in constant fear of death, so medicine is invaluable , which indicates that these are the two objectives of "alchemists".
The Monkke and the Mechanical Egg maybe?
@@superdark336 *Monkke*
I dont know what Magic + Technology may be however it does sound like something with incredible power for some reason or another
also in most worlds Magic and Technology usually exist separately maybe(?) there is reason for such a thing and the combination would be a much more cursed, unnatural power
Maybe there's no such thing as Magic + Technology, as the egg of Nature was what created life and death, therefore a conjunction of the powers of Magic and Technology would not produce a living being (meaning wands might just be this creation, they're a technology capable of wielding magic, but they have no life)
Magic and Technology... wait, could it be The Work?
Turning the entire world to gold, including yourself, is some seriously chaotic natural shit..
this is fucking dark LMFAO... i love it
The third egg and its consequences have been a disaster for the alchemist race.
Alternatively, both the Noita and the mobs of the Ancient Labratory are failed creations and the alchemists are trying to find a balance between being able to control magic and not being driven mad by magic (which could be the result of the AL mobs.)
This could also explain why there are some AL mages in the Temple of the Art since they could be on a journey to get the Sampo.
Great content as usual, thanks for getting me into a more storied side of the game!

Thanks you for your hardwork in discovering and explaining all these features. :)
when you think about it, an alchemist is like the mediator or middle ground of all three "gods"
they are living beings, who use magic, with the help of technology
perhaps the character we control is an alchemist since if they were an agent of any one of the three faction, either the wizards, animals, or hiisi bots would be peaceful to them but they're not
What if we are the Agent of Technology?
👏 thanks
I feel like Noita is an alchemist afterall, despite commonly accepted theory that noita is an agent of magic
it makes more sense - we already see mages of various studies below the mountain, but we see no alchemists; yeah, some enemies throw pots at you but they didnt delve into the alchemy itself, we never see enemies combining elements on purpose (I understand that may be a game limitation or smt else).
Though usually in fiction blood coming from an artifact is used to represent evilness/corruption
Water appearing instead of blood on pacifist run is smt I didnt know, water is a common symbol for cleanliness, it may suggest that only when you steal or kill is it considered a 'sin' by the pedestals/gods

VVVVVVV
I was quite shocked when I saw the new late game enemies in Noita.
Id go with you might be the only one left. Because you can quite clearly see buildings in the background when you travel on the surface

Hooooly shit i love this game, and you for covering it.
I think the Noita is the balance between the three, created to gain true understanding of the world and to bring harmony to the world.
I suggest you check out the area behind the dark cave- it is now something called "The laboratory". there are mutated (or unfinished?) noitas and different spellcasters. Also, an abundant amount of mana potions spilled. Maybe noita is successful experiment done there? idk for what purpose or by whom though.
Yes, I’ve covered that area in other videos, including the quest to open the chests of light and dark.
@@FuryForged oh right. forgot about that video ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
we may be "magic"
and we need to complete the work, but nature+technology does not want that, maybe, I am so bad at theories, but we must be an agent of magic because we can tinker with spells and change wands and such
but the noita got trapped in a time loop, the statue of gold showing up, so we get the true knowledge to get peace with nature and tech, but what is "work" and what happens to the world when we use the salt with 13 orbs, (i think its 13).
Matpat will love this game
Looking at some other enemy designs, the player's 'kind' was experimented with and the player escaped.

I believe the character being an agent of the alchemists makes the most sense, the reason everyone wants kill you; nature; technology; even fellow practicers of magic; is because you are trying to turn the entire world into gold. An alchemist’s true goal, infinite riches.
I feel like volume 10 might be a hint to the cauldron room...?
You are a pursuer of knowledge, Noita is Finnish for witch.
fun fact, the emerald tablets are based on the real life emerald tablet.
1:18 is it inside game subtitles?
These tablets are referencing a lot of real alchemical material. Specifically, when it talks about sulfur and liquifaction; the Philosopher's Stone, the Prima Materia!
HI! Fury (again,and always)
"They made it easier to figure it out, just take to the forge so IT TURNS IN A TABLED WITH UNREADABLE CHARACTERS"
I love Noita, but it's sad that to enjoy half of it you have to turn it into a job, so much stuff you need to do and learn outside of the game itself.
Compared to that type of garbage, noita does really good
is the a chance that volume 10 has something to do with the cauldron ?
If you use the holy hand grenade on the tablet that calls for it does anything happen?
BUT HEY, TH-
4:16 What if alchemy is an allegory for game design?
wow this is great
What a huge game.
Jerma985 just started streaming Noita and hopefully his stream will give Noita more of the recognition it deserves and bring in some new players
I haven't heard of him since I barely watch anything, but awesome!
holy shit is that why the tree has three eggs with one being alone lower than the rest
Me, before the video: Oh, Noita - that silly roguelike game? It's getting lore now?
Me, after the video: Oh...
Love the monthy python reference
There was no first tablet, where did it go?
Considering Noita does not exist in parallel worlds it must be something unique, created not only by nature/magic/ect.
What is the reference on the sand orb room?
The devs have confirmed that the main character is not the "Noita"
Also, before Noita came out, I had a philosophy professor who told us that when cement was invented, people referred to it as “permanent water.”
That little nugget of knowledge stuck with me.

*noitafication gang
Zing.
Probably more number of likes on this video than people who actually did this in game. How would a regular player even go about finding this out.
3:05 nice monthy python reference
"What is a noita? WHAT ARE WE HERE FOR!?"
uhh... haha, nuke go boom. :)
