As a Horde player, I nominate that Tarren Mill guard for a medal of honour given how many low level Alliance they seem to kill. If you're too low level you can also aggro the prowler by that junction. I've also seen people distracted by the herb and mining node that spawns there. It's a pretty lethal junction.

On the map it *seems* farther, but the entire area through the path they were taking is full of enemies and would take longer and going North of Dalaran would have taken less time with less hassle. I suppose the 60 was with her to one shot all the enemies along the way but there was no need for that escort to begin with. None of this would require good game knowledge, just the most rudimentary. Hiring a 60 to help shave off maybe 20 seconds from your guild is a luxury and a stupid one at that.

You see the Tarren Mill guards actually saved Emi time because they were just going to die in SM anyway, so this way she’ll be able to get to her new character faster and in the grand scheme of things a quicker path to her level 60 character.
Most who learned about that guard they did so by dying to it, this is the most normal way to find out about it. The others who learned about it is by their friends who died to it in the first place and gave them a fucking heads up.

The majority of HC Classic’s difficulty comes from knowledge checks like this, whether it’s patrolling max level faction guards, roaming dragons, sudden drops to death, group ambush spawns, etc. That being said I do agree that the patrolling guards are bullshit design, Hilsbrad in general sucks in HC for levelling because of this - for both factions.
The knowledge comes from crawling before walking and walking before running. So play WOW retail without boosting. Learn the old fashioned way then play hardcore. Playing hardcore boosted without the immersion is what we are watching with the non-experienced streamers @@LoudWaffle
The journey towards SM is arguably the most dangerous part of doing the dungeon. Why was she not warned or shown the right way? It wouldn't have happen had they travelled as a group together.

Makes no sense to go that way, least of all on Hardcore lol

It’s much safer to go around the road through Silverpine. there’s no need to take extra risk by cutting out another minute of travel time.

Given the location and cause of death, anyone who's played enough to reach cap or at least mid 40s during preBC and/or Classic would have guessed right away. It's a knowledge check but the DC is not that high. Edit: I mean it's an easy knowledge check to know what killed her for someone else. It's an extremely high DC knowledge check for Emi to avoid this death, she had almost no way of knowing where a horde town would be in unknown territory and even less to know there is a guard in that town that patrols all the way to the main road away from the town.

She was in the road next to a horde settlement. It makes sense they would have guards pathing the area. The town has no walls so guards gotta patrol. Makes perfect sense to me.

Hardcore servers were in response to the community. It's not their fault for the game design not being friendly for hardcore. If the game was designed for hardcore, I would agree. Blizzard answered the community by request for hardcore, if things aren't fair then it is what it is. It was never designed for this.

I don't agree that knowing the location of horde and alliance towns in a given zone is "intricate game knowledge". you know guards aggro on sight and are very high level. you know that guards patrol towns of the opposite faction. EVEN if hardcore was my first ever experience in classic, the first thing i would do when i got to a new zone would be to familiarize myself with where the towns of the opposite faction are. TLDR: this isn't some hidden thing like Son of Arugal that you pretty much have to die to it to learn. Opposite Faction town bad. how can i avoid opposite faction town. that's it.
The guard isn't the issue. HC is. I remember running into the guards and died there and it was a memorable moment. It was fun to realize how far I went and I didn't know that there were a enemy camp. I died walked back to my corpse and respawned. In HC this is a problem. The game isn't made for HC and I think changing stuff like this does nothing for the normal game but lose flavor.
14:40 Asmongold missed an important point: they didn't track her on the map. Because they could've easily looked which path she was taking and warn her. If it was her first time going there they should've checked where she was and which route she was taking. They were at a safe enough spot and two of them, so opening the map would've been ok. Not staying with her, *then* not tracking her makes it more like 95% his fault. She went the completely wrong way.

To be fair, SM is not a dungeon designed to alliance even more when the instance is located in a horde starting zone and has frontier with Plaguelands (a end game zone) where you have to past not only one but two +40 zones (arathi and alterac) also the horde guard in tirisfal and hillsbrad. Like the most safe way is going trough silverpine and them tirisfal, but let's be honest you power level, get free gear and gold, and have a god damn 60 bodyguard ¿what else do you want? ¿a ride in [Mekgineer's Chopper]?

I would highly recommend they get an addon called Unitscan Hardcore. The issue with most of the high level alert type addons is that they rely on nameplates popping up to detect dangerous mobs. By the time you see a guard's nameplate, you are dead. By the time you see a ?? elite's nameplate, you are dead. Unitscan Hardcore will alert you before the mob is even visible on your screen - it has a list of dangerous mobs that it actively scans for.
80% miz 15% emi 5% random 60 It's a 20 year old game the guards have always done that. The random probably didn't expect the guard to aggro and 2 shot her.
She has played this how many times and she still does these things to get herself killed and the people playing with her get blamed for not informing her of every detail, or the right time to open the menus. I hate to be that guy but honestly a lot of this stuff you learn as you go in games like this and she doesn't seem to have learned anything.

Protip : don't go that way as alliance. Just walk through silverpine and go the longer way. It's far safer. Don't take the risk.

I'd argue it's just not worth going to SM as alliance on a hardcore server. It's barely worth it on a normal classic PVP server

There aren't that many guards that can kill you in wow. Especially specifically in that location
its pretty common knowledge
At that level range Tarren Mill Deathguard is a pretty common cause of death.
Given the location and cause of death, anyone who's played enough to reach cap or at least mid 40s during preBC and/or Classic would have guessed right away. It's a knowledge check but the DC is not that high.
Edit: I mean it's an easy knowledge check to know what killed her for someone else. It's an extremely high DC knowledge check for Emi to avoid this death, she had almost no way of knowing where a horde town would be in unknown territory and even less to know there is a guard in that town that patrols all the way to the main road away from the town.

Nearly 20 years ago in Vanilla, as Alliance we ALWAYS went to SM as a GROUP. No one ever went alone. Miz should know better.

Yep, I remember that patrol from back in the day. I think it actually walks right up onto that crossroad so there is no way you're not going to aggro it if it's close to the intersection. Sounds like neither she nor the 60 who was with her was paying attention.

Blizzard answered the community by request for hardcore, if things aren't fair then it is what it is. It was never designed for this.

I don't agree that knowing the location of horde and alliance towns in a given zone is "intricate game knowledge". you know guards aggro on sight and are very high level. you know that guards patrol towns of the opposite faction. EVEN if hardcore was my first ever experience in classic, the first thing i would do when i got to a new zone would be to familiarize myself with where the towns of the opposite faction are.
TLDR: this isn't some hidden thing like Son of Arugal that you pretty much have to die to it to learn. Opposite Faction town bad. how can i avoid opposite faction town. that's it.
The guard isn't the issue. HC is.
I remember running into the guards and died there and it was a memorable moment. It was fun to realize how far I went and I didn't know that there were a enemy camp. I died walked back to my corpse and respawned.
In HC this is a problem. The game isn't made for HC and I think changing stuff like this does nothing for the normal game but lose flavor.

14:40 Asmongold missed an important point: they didn't track her on the map. Because they could've easily looked which path she was taking and warn her. If it was her first time going there they should've checked where she was and which route she was taking. They were at a safe enough spot and two of them, so opening the map would've been ok.

To be fair, SM is not a dungeon designed to alliance even more when the instance is located in a horde starting zone and has frontier with Plaguelands (a end game zone) where you have to past not only one but two +40 zones (arathi and alterac) also the horde guard in tirisfal and hillsbrad. Like the most safe way is going trough silverpine and them tirisfal, but let's be honest you power level, get free gear and gold, and have a god damn 60 bodyguard ¿what else do you want? ¿a ride in [Mekgineer's Chopper]?

I would highly recommend they get an addon called Unitscan Hardcore. The issue with most of the high level alert type addons is that they rely on nameplates popping up to detect dangerous mobs. By the time you see a guard's nameplate, you are dead. By the time you see a ?? elite's nameplate, you are dead. Unitscan Hardcore will alert you before the mob is even visible on your screen - it has a list of dangerous mobs that it actively scans for.

She has played this how many times and she still does these things to get herself killed and the people playing with her get blamed for not informing her of every detail, or the right time to open the menus. Not like back in the good old days when I was a lad and fighting ally to and fro in SS.
