Each team can build their own gearbox but they're allowed to purchase them from the engine manufacturer, including the rear suspension
Aston Martin for example is using the gearbox from Mercedes
When looking at the gear ratios in the game files, the RedBull has lower ratios for most of its gears (longer gears), while Mercedes for example has the shortest gears. When changing those values to make the gears longer I was able to make the Merc get to the same as Redbull for topspeed with 366 km/h, when I lengthened the ratios for the redbull I was able to get it to a top speed of 369 km/h. All this makes me wonder how quick a maxed out F1 world car can go on straights
it would be the same as the red bull as the shift points seem to be similar or identical. since the shifts and ratios are basically identical between the rb and f1 world car it just means that the f1 world car will reach 366 kmh (the limiter) before a normal red bull would.
@@godzvnm7315 Yes I know, I meant I wonder how fast could the f1 world car go if it was maxed AND had its gears changed to be longer, if I had to guess probably north of 370km/h.

ohhh okay yeah. i mean the limits of the gane at least in gear ratios would probably be the alpine top speed then or maybe a tiny bit higher and the upgrades would just help to reach it faster. so probably around the range of 374 to 380.

Yes, Jarno. You are right about Mclaren. They started the century as the official Mercedes F1 team, but got dumped in 2010, left the Mercedes power unit in 2014 and used Honda from 2015 to 2017, before swapping to Renault for two years (the best years they've had in ten years) and finally swapped back at Merc in 2021

the rev limit in F1 is limited to 15k rpm but due to efficiency every team keeps the revlimit down to 13krpm
more like 13.5k. mercedes IRL have very short ratios, at 328 kmh they are already above 12k rpm. at 360 they'd be past 13k, and it's plausible you'd need more in monza. In the past mercedes PU were limited to around 13.5 as said.
@@cosmo1084 no every team limits it to 13k and no more. its been like that since the start of the hybrid era. and it isnt negotioable as only 1 set of gear ratios are allowed to be used for the full season. so the twams decide what would be the best gear ratio for each gear and and they have to use those ratios for every race. if they were allowed to changed they would used higher gear ratios at street circuits than they would at a regular track.
@@godzvnm7315 dude just search "perez 370 kmh" you will see in 2016 he was at 13100 rpm, and still no sign of any limiter. Nowadays cars have shorter gear ratios which would limit top speed at around 358 kmh for mercedes if they had a limiter set at 13.000, but they don't. Limiter is probably at around 13.500 as it always was.
I saw somewhere some long time ago that teams limited it to 13k rpm the most because of the fuel flow limiters and they actually make less power after 13k due to that. Its all in the name of efficiency as your comment stated. I wish they were able to change gear ratios from track to track though to see how much change in lap times it would bring. Or maybe two difference sets of gear ratios, one tailored to high top speed tracks and the other geared towards low speed and multiple slow corners.
@@san-joshuabarrett difference would be minimal, which is why there's only 1 ratio. If it would be big problem teams would shout up and down the pitlane we need to change the rules, but we've never heard one thing about this topic, so its a non-issue
Crazy to think that back in the early 2000's without DRS the cars were going 360kph+ at Monza in race trim.
Speed is accurate if they took the data from Jeddah. Because Merc were like 24kph slower than Red bull there. Incredible to see that team is now just 2 - 4 KPH slower on top speed ever since the Monaco update
They didn't do this based on data. Mercedes, Williams and Aston Martin have their top speeds "bricked" by the gear ratios. If you play Career mode, even with the RnD upgrades the top speed won't improve.

You're totally right, the limit is 15k. But as you mentionned, the engine torque caps just a tad over 12k, so teams have no interest into running higher revs. But the rules do say that the gas engines have to run at 15k max, so it's quite weird to see 13k in the game. On the other hand, I'm not surprised at all #Codies
the teams dont have to have the engines run at 15k max. thats the highest the regs allow them to but the teams can choose how many revs their engine can reach up to the allowed 15k rpm.
Speed is not accurate with Williams being the slowest here

Correct. Also the fuel flow over a lap makes almost impossible to run such high revs even during a single quali lap.
Unless we have changes to the engines or fuel flow restrictions we won't see engines go over 13k

its based on the manufacturer's engine mapping, but that can me selected by also the customer team. meaning Haas can map 1st gear at 55 kph while Ferrari can map it 60 or 65. these fine details are driver based, the team doesn't really care what gear u use as long as it works.

It's been brought up in the game's forums that Aston Martin, Williams and Mercedes have a lot less revs than the rest of the field.

@@stevenjoseph6048i think aston is switching engines for the same reasons RB did. If they really are to fight for championships, they gotta have their own engines, not buy it for the rival teams.
In real life it’s pretty noticeable that the Merc gearbox used in the Aston and Williams has shorter ratios than the others while McLaren use their own gearbox so it’s used probably to mimic real life

@@stevenjoseph6048 They are switching because they can have an engine tailored to their overall car package which will gain them some lap time. Customer teams have to run their engines similar to their sellers and it may not fit their philosophy perfectly. Hence why Merc cant just copy RBs downwash philosophy nor suspension set ups.
Hey Jarno, you are correct got it spot on, The Aston and the Williams use Merc engine, gearbox and rear suspension. Whereas Mclaren just takes the engine from merc the gearbox is in-house built by Mclaren that why the gear difference is there.

Mclaren uses Merc Engine but designs its own Gearbox inhouse,
That might be the reason for that little extra top speed with the Gear ratios
AM and Williams use the exact same Mercedes Gearbox, that's the reason for the same top speeds
Mercedes Aston Martin and Williams are using the same gearbox in reallife
Its the gear ratios that limit the cars mostly.
Mclaren has Merc engine as well but they dont use the same gearbox as Merc AM and Williams. This can be seen in the handling files as well.
Haas and Ferrari have same topspeed as they use same gearbox as well

as for the rpm. the regulations allow up to 15k. but because of the limit of the fuel everything above 12k/13k is just less efficient so the teams put the limiter down

For the engine RPM, if you go any higher than 12k RPM, u wont gain any power because FIA limits team to an specific amount of fuel that is put in the engine, so going higher than 11-12k is useless. But if you take away that limitation they could go much faster
Williams was the fastest car on the straight in Canada, so idk if they put up the config. for Williams in the Mclaren

Lewis engine in Brazil ‘21 was redlining at 14.5k rpm, but that was turned up. Probably 1-2k lower
the max rpm is 15k but all the teams limit it to 13k because you gain literally nothing from going at 15k rpm and the gearing + aero drag doesn't really allow you to go to 15k to begin with

Yes McLaren is using their own gearbox but Aston and Williams buys gearboxes from Merc so the gear ratio is different on McLaren from other Merc engine cars

In terms of the limiter. Teams are allowed a limiter up to 15k RPM, but most run a lower limiter as it creates less wear, and their fuel flow is capped to the same as 10.5K RPM. It simply doesnt make sense to turn the engines to 15k rpm

You're correct the real limit is 15k
in the regs they say the limiter can be 15k but the cars actually use a limiter of 13k because after about 12k rpm or just before the engine stops pushing and you start losing time and speed.

the rev limit for the engines is 15k, but you can't reach it as the fuel flow limit isn't high enough to fuel the engine for that many revs
you could reach it easy in lower gears, but engines are not bult to withstand so much rpm, so they limit them at around 13.5k.

The reason why the McLaren is faster than the AM & Mercedes is that currently AM has its gearboxes from Mercedes from a deal sparked dueing the racing point era.
Whilst McLaren moved to Mercedes in 2021 and have their own gearbox

Is this the Mercedes before or after the Monaco updates? I have a feeling the games hasn't updated the car models yet, so the in-game Mercedes is not as fast as the real life Mercedes now is after the update.

Red Bull good but not unbeatable
Than Ferrari than Mercedes and Aston. Than Alpine and then the other 5 teams close to eachother.
So their will be soon a update were EA will update the performance of the cars. Red Bull will be quicker, same for Aston and a bit for Merc.
Ferrari will be downgraded a bit I think.
I hope Jarno will make a video, but not sure. If the changes are big I'm sure he will.
