Back in 1987, I sent this band a letter telling them that I was a fan of their music. Not only did they send me an autographed photo of themselves, the singer, Valerie Day, handwrote me a letter of thanks. That was exciting to a 16 year old boy at the time

To anyone that's here for this beautiful song,I applaud you. I am broken and barely resemble a human being some days but I hold the line. Keep the faith that you serve such a unique and beautiful purpose and know that you are the vibrant colors that make this bleak grey world amazing.

I was born in 94 but my uncle grew up in the 80s. I would spend everyday after school at his place waiting for my mom to get off work to pick me up. My uncle had Beat Street on DVD and he would play it religiously. That’s the only reason I know of and still love that movie. And to this day i’ve hardly ever met a person that knows about Beat Street. Only a few OG’s i’ve spoken to know about it. Roxy?! Roxy! Before my time but still rockin with this music 👌🏻
This was my fav song when I was 10 - 1986. There was a place called Godfather’s Pizza that had a jukebox - and this track was my pick week after week that summer - between the pizza, the tunes, the PacMan and Asteriods video games…pure delight! Ahhh, those were the days…

I'm so glad I was a kid in the 80s and got to experience MTV at it's best!
+superrok420 I tell my 15 yo sister all the time that I feel bad for her and the other kids of today that they didn't get to experience all the magic of MTV from 81-01. MTV still exists but it oughta be respectful to the music world fans by changing it to RTV(Reality Television) or TCTV(Totally Crap Television)
+superrok420 I mean if it played 24 hours worth of today's music videos, it'd be great. Or a mixture of all 4 decades(80's, 90's, 00's, 10's)
+superrok420 Same here man, same here. 80's MTV RULES!
+David Brunson The mixture is a genius idea. I wish those asshats would take that into consideration.
+tigerslilly29 I second that! Just videos 24 hours a day, like before. With such a huge catalog of videos, they wouldn't even repeat themselves for a long time! They could alternate each hour with different decades.
Why is it that once you start listening to these fire 80's hits, you end up binging on all 80's music (no matter the genre 'cause they were all bangers) for hours on RUclips? Nothing and I mean straight up nothing will ever dominate the music, culture and fads of the 80's! So blessed to have lived and experienced the enlightening 80's. This 54 year old will always be an 80's child!
Reason why is the 80's had the best chicks and lifestyle.
💯
Because they were so different. There wasn't two guys writing all the hits, there were thousands of bands in the US and UK, playing little pubs and bars and honing their craft and every one of them had a chance of writing a hit.
Same here! @Friskel I'm 53 years old and it seems like yesterday. The 80s were the absolute jamming times, real talented music and great sound! Miss those days

This song has aged remarkably well,
You could play this alongside every other song on the radio and many would think it was a new song.
absolutely
True Dat!!
It sounded ultra-modern at the time, ahead of its time and perhaps jarringly so to a few with less adventurous tastes. There's a strange, possibly unintentional, hint of world weariness to her vocal on this, which goes with a few of the lyrics. It's cleverly put together and all the bits of it,from the synths to the guitar hook, are recognisable as no other song as soon as it comes on. But if you play it to your dogs, like one recent TV advert suggested, will they really bark along with it?
I agree
The song aged well but the video screams mid 80s new wave.
I'm 55 and I will always live in the year 1985 when I was 16, the best music and best friends ever!!!😁😁😁😁

22 (1985) , 80s80s, my best time ever😀
The 80s were so fun!! Why?:
1. Every single song on the radio was excellent.
2. We would play outside all day no supervision.
3. We would talk on the phone actual conversations with other kids our ages.
4. Everyone pretty much has the same fashion and hair style nobody has any reason to say otherwise.
5. The weekends were for skating rings and to look at cute boys.
6. Ice cream trucks driving through our neighborhood and us kids looking for spare change in the sofa and we always had enough to buy.
7. etc etc etc
The 80's was paradise compared to now.

I hear a lot of kids that like the 80s music over todays.
Songwriting was much better back then. Musicianship was also still really important. Technology was not used in place of talent but rather to complement and enhance it and for experimentation, like this song. Also, that thick hard hitting 80s thump is just infectious and never gets old

I first heard this song in 1986 - Freshmen in high school. Everyone in my Algebra class kept talking about the Nu Shooz song. I knew EXACTLY what they were talking about.. Because I was shy and in a class with older students, I just kept smiling thinking to myself- yup that’s an AWESOME song. Then our teacher overheard and asked, “What are you all talking about?” Someone said Nu Shooz. The teacher looked down on the floor and said, “Who bought New Shoes?” We all busted up and laughed so hard!! Great song!!
Totally love this song and its heavy synth beat, but more-so because of the lyrics. They sum up succinctly but lovingly how many relationships are. When you've been together with someone and still can't wait to see them each day, it says so much. "I Can't Wait" still stands the test of time in my books. Brilliant track.

Who would of thought something this funky could come from Oregon?!
That's why I want to live there if I ever afford it
@@merikajohnson2728 as a person oregon is not as good as it seems. Huge homeless population. And since californians keep moving here just about everyone is a shit driver. If you do move to Oregon live in the small cities avoid multnomah, washington, and clackamas county.
From Oregon???? Didn’t know that.
@@FreeTun02 same could be said for up north, here in Washington State. As a 4th generation resident, it's gotten unrecognizable in various places, during just a portion of my own lifetime.
Well oregon is more than grunge
I just turned 40 I remember hearing this song as a little girl. I always loved it!
1980's was the most diverse decade for music. There was techno/synth music. Bands like The Talking Heads, Devo, Pet Shop Boys were popular. Like rock music? No problem. Bands from the 70's were still going like Aerosmith, Ted Nugent and Bad Company. You want fun party music theres a huge list of Hair bands like Poison, Motley Crue, Bon Jovi and Cinderella to choose from. Want some heavy music? You could listen to Motorhead, Megadeth, Slayer, Metallica and the list goes on. Hip hop was getting popular but back then it was simply known as rap music. You could listen to Kurtis Blow, Doug E Fresh, Slick Rick, Sugar Hill Gang and Grandmaster Flash.
The 80,s was awesome for music.
And if you truly loved music, there was a song from every genre that you would put on repeat....rap, pop, rock, metal..r n b, country, techno....🎵🎵🎵🎵🎵

Agreed, I think the 80s and 90s were the some of the best decades in music.

This song still rocks! What a jam. My spirit soars...God bless Nu Shooz.
Yes, yes, they really DO, heard this on a soap opera in the 80s, glad I caught it🥳🥳🥳
We used to roller skate to this at the roller rink in the 80’s!! 51 and this still brings back those memories! 😃😎
Yes! Same here!
I like how they let the artists write their own songs back then.

The intro to this song sounds like a certain Japanese gay actor's wheezing voice.
In reality, however, not all Japanese know about it. I'm Japanese and didn't know about it until recently, but there was no escaping that fact.☠️

These movies were so much better back then. We even lost good actors like River. The drugs took away our best actors and musicians!

The 80s was the best decade for music in all genres: pop, rock, rap, country, R&B. The 80s produced more hits and classics than any other decade. Even
More than the disco era of the 70s. 😊
it was arguably the worst decade for both rock and rap but was absolutely the best for pop
@@matthewbanton7077 - obviously you are not a fan of rap or rock to not appreciate the classics that were created during that decade. The songs of that decade are the most used in commercials, movie soundtracks, music compilations and the most remade songs of any era. You might not like the rock and rap classics from that decade but you absolutely recognize them when you hear them today.
@@quinndeskimo4132 I’m a massive fan of rap and am in multiple rock bands lol, it’s just the 60s, 70s, 90s, 00s and 10s all were much better decades for rock and the last three were for rap as well
@@matthewbanton7077 - I find it hard to believe that a massive fan of rap would consider today’s rap as better than 80s rap. Unless he was born after 1995, which would explain why he doesn’t like 80s rap. It’s just a difference in generational tastes in music. I would guess that the reason why you don’t like 80s rock is because of the image of rock artists during that era. The makeup and the tight clothes and the big hair and even earrings. The image of rock artists wasn’t very masculine during that era. But the music was good.
