Interesting... thanks for introducing Ibn Khaldun. FYI - In Tamil (one of THE ancient languages) grammar (aka. "Yappu") the land (earth) gets divided into 5 parts (Kurinji, Mullai, Marutham, Neydal and Palai) and the grammar describes about the people/culture/living styles etc about each of these areas .....all written about 2500 years ago !!! Nice to know that someone else has also thought about this albeit much later.
