Sounds great as always, Pete! I got to see Rush in 1978 (Farewell To Kings) and 1982 (Signals). Seeing the Club and Country makes sense now. When I saw them in '82, Alex had a rack behind him with all 4 of those C&C amps mounted in it. I never knew what those were until now. I definitely heard his amps Larry, Moe & Curly in 1978. Between those and Geddy's Ampegs, the whole venue rattled! They were a fantastic live band!
Rush music was always really goofy & silly, like so much 'rock' & other music = the 'random poetry sung to melody' stuff of Bowie & others. iFee ripped off iDidn't discover real music like Turkish $hit until well into my 30's =P ~> ruclips.net/video/BElsCxs42pM/видео.html
Alex is my fav and has been since about 78. When everyone was freakin' over Eddie, I was into Alex. Saw my first show in '80 with Permanent Waves. Life changing. Thanks for this composition, Pete, it was a very nice tribute. Made me smile. P.S. I saw the Grace Under Pressure show main floor, about 2nd or third row in Saginaw MI. Geddy was in a BAD mood but Alex was bouncing around like a wildman.
Incredible channelling of Alex there Pete!. Awesome job!. I just going to say it... Alex is imho the greatest all round rock guitarist of all time. Slotting into that monster trio and the kind of music they were dreaming up... hardest job in the world for a guitarist.
That was such a cool Rush inspired tune at the beginning, great guitar playing as usual, but also a clear love for the music of the band to be able to capture some of those stylistic characteristics without it sounding like a caricature. I haven't been using guitar plugins much lately, but that duplicating of a track and then running through a different model is something I've done many times in the past. On a solo, it can give that fatness and separation of actual double tracking but with much more tightness and clarity. I remember doing it once on a solo and someone asked if I'd used some kind of stereo octave fuzz, because certain harmonics just popped out and gave the impression of a high octave.
Alex has the best live sound I’ve ever heard. I’ve seen all of the 80’s Shredders besides Randy Rhoads unfortunately. I remember standing there with my jaw on the ground. I thought this is what a guitar is supposed to sound like. Best live band ever.
Just sayin, but as a long time RUSH fan since 1975 and 81 shows under my belt alone with 6 meet and greets, it would awesome, cool and everything else to have Alex Lifeson on Tone Talk let's make it happen! Pete, that opening song is really good!
Pete, when I saw Michael Nielsen's demo this morning, I knew you were probably a few hours behind him with a killer demo intro track. Really well done, love the sounds here.
Damn Pete! Listening to that felt like getting to hear a lost unreleased Rush demo or something. Blending the clean and crunchy REALLY was very convincing Lifeson sound.
Great job and nice tribute to one of my all time favorite guitar players....I think Al was sometimes overshadowed by his bandmates, but RUSH would never have sounded the same without his incredible, musical style....One of a handful of bands, along with the BEATLES and LED ZEPPELIN, where each member is so iconic, and irreplaceable
I was at, the Power windows tour, in London at Wembley, it is the one and only time I saw them. Absolutely fantastic. He has the best guitar tones ever, from the first album on, always fantastic and innovative! And such a nice dude!
great demo as always - I think Joe Bonamassa is blending clean & dirty amps together on his current shows - dumbles , fenders and marshall jubilee's in different grouping's and it sounds amazing - Pete Rules
Fantastic intro piece! Are you sure you don't have Rush in the back room somewhere!? Alex has great cleans with chorus. ToneX is killing it with these artist packages.
It is one of your best ever vids. The tunes were so strong. Yes the sounds were good too but a great tune and even a poor sound is still totally captivating. I just got so into it. It was like the old days hearing a new LP for the first time. THANX!!!
Killed it again. How you pump these videos out in a few days still boggles my brain. Do you program all the drum tracks as well? Looking forward to the Alex interview.
I've seen Rush multiple times. One time, he had 4 Marshall combo amps 2 stacked on each other must have been those amps. He was also primarily playing a white Strat that night. Cool song, Pete loved all the Rushisims. Is that a word lol
Pete the demos sound so good ,definately have the Lifeson vibe ,I went to The Signals Album Tour last minute decision and set right behind the band ,it was just the way the Arena was designed but it was so cool and so close ,I could see everything they were doing ,the pedal board that Getty was using looked more like foot pedals from a Organ was amazing to see ,I really think they are still underated ,I loved the first album and Listened to it everyday going to work ,great demo man you rock !!!1
I’m not a huge listener of Rush other than the occasional time they’re on the radio but the few songs I know of theirs always impressed me with the guitar sound Alex Lifeson had. As for the Marshall 6100, another major user of them back in the early 2000s was Joe Satriani if I remember correctly. That’s definitely a Marshall few people talk about but maybe it deserves more attention.
I play in a Rush Tribute and have settled on two Hiwatt custom heads with a Carl Martin dual Plexitone pedal in stereo. I may add a third head and cabinet as I have it.
Great job ! Go check out a guitar player phone interview Jas Obrect did with Al in 1985 for power windows where he’s using the Dean Markley combos and talks about how he plays loud for recording. He tells you he relies on power tube distortion as he runs the pre at like 2 and the post at like 7 or 8. Then that changed like everyone else did and the knobs reversed. It was the crossover to more gain saturation on the front end. It gets all squashed out. Back then it was tame the beast for tone
After watching and enjoying your content for years Pete, it wasn't until you mentioned the cancelled Power Windows concert story that I realized you're from Edmonton. I had tickets to that show too! Did you catch Van Halen on their 1984 tour? Aside from being a fantastic show, I clearly remember David Lee Roth coming out for the encore in an Oilers jersey and announcing that we'd beaten the North Stars in a playoff game in Minny, and the crowd went absolutely mental.
Hey Pete correct me if I’m wrong . I thought I read that Stevie Ray Vaughan used a Marshall Country club and Neal Geraldo (Pat Benatar ) as well . Killer demo . Thanks !
I think I've heard about SRV, not sure when he used them though. When I think of him, I always think Vibroverb, Super Reverb, Dumble. And then around in step you'd see a Marshall but I don't think it was the combo...
@@PeteThorn Yes SRV did you use the Marshall 4140 Club and Country along with Fender Vibroverbs. In fact, that amp was going to be on tour with David Bowie until SRV drop out in last minute before the tour was to start.
Alex stated in a recent interview he started using a Club and Country after hearing Allan Holdworth"s tone with U.K. on their 1978 album (titled U.K.). I would have loved to have seen that interview to hear more about it.
Omg Pete!!! That song was total Rush... Did you get Geddy to play on it. I know Jon button.. Wow.. the leads were great too, especially that one note that sounded like it came from limelight solo!!!You nailed that piece. Bravo
4 The #Rush Fans - #Rush has been releasing 40th Anniversary Boxed Sets with Vinyl LPs. The #HolyGrail is the #MovingPicture Set....so many goodies. #2112 50th Anniversary Boxed Set is due in 2026!!
I actually have one, but it's beat to shit and doesn't work very well. It was a bit misrepresented, by the guy who sold it to me. Going to need some serious work.
What still has never been recreated is the Moving Pictures tone. That album has the most unique guitar tone ever. Rush couldn't even duplicate this live, just never sounded the same. But like you said, it's the studio ability to blend clean & dirty tones from the different amps and what he was playing direct. Prove me wrong - play the intro to Limelight. It's impossible to recreate. Opening track was ridiculous. Should have ended with the 'hemispheres' flavor to the last chord
Really well done. The opening tune was insane. You and Jon went beast mode. Thank you! 🤘
Thanks guys!
@@PeteThorn this song needs a t-shirt
You should totally have Alex on as a guest. This needs to happen! Amazing intro song too, so many references to all his guitar periods.
You and Alex must do an interview, don't give up! SO many juicy details only you could fish out of him!!
As always, great video and great playing. Lets make the Lifeson interview happen!
Sounds great as always, Pete! I got to see Rush in 1978 (Farewell To Kings) and 1982 (Signals). Seeing the Club and Country makes sense now. Alex Lifeson is a genius. Great capture of the spirit of Rush PT. : )

Pete GREAT job getting the “Lerxst” sound and vibe, and still keeping your playing style. Excellent demo.
Woohoo! Sounds great Pete. Got my Hentor Sportscaster ready for this collection!
Love the playing and the tones!!! Long live Rush!!!
Sounds are just stellar .... really close to Lerxst but also totally usable in any context. Great demo, Pete.

Awesome track! Alex would be impressed. Makes me want a Tonex.

The opening composition was awesome 🤜🤛 RUSH 👍
Great instrumental and video overall!!
What a great tune you put together, Pete!! You really captured that Rush tone and style incredibly well. Thought i was listening to a Rush tune!!
I camped out for Rush tickets overnight for the Presto tour, Alpine Valley WI. Fun times. Sounds great, I'll definitely be picking this up.
My seats weren't as good for the Presto tour but still pretty solid. I think I was like 11th row floor or something.
@@PeteThorn lawn seats was all I could get. It was a great show.
One of the greatest bands of all time, Icons, legends.
Even before you said John played the bass I was thinking how great (and how Geddy) it sounded, along with the fabulous guitar, of course.
Pete, when I saw Michael Nielsen's demo this morning, I knew you were probably a few hours behind him with a killer demo intro track. Really well done, love the sounds here.
16 in 78, saw them at Maple Leaf Gardens on Dec 30
Next night max webster opened. Damn!
Damn Pete! Listening to that felt like getting to hear a lost unreleased Rush demo or something. Blending the clean and crunchy REALLY was very convincing Lifeson sound.
thanks!
Stellar job on the track, very Rush-esque and Alex would be pleased I'm sure!
Pete, that was uncanny. You know Alex's playing so well but it was a fresh sound. A lost tapes feel.

Bravo Pete Thorn. Great job with that track and channeling the Rush Lifeson vibe!
Ah, where was this 35 years ago when I first started playing in my Rush tribute band? Oh well, you have to work with what you’ve got. Great video!
Those are bass lines that would make Geddy proud, haha! Even though you were highlighting the guitar.
Jon Button is badass.
Great demo, thanks Pete! I hope you get to interview Alex sometime in the future, it would be amazing.
I've always been a Rush fan & your demo was extraordinary! I really enjoyed the demo & your commentaries.
Thanks!
Ô Canada! Thanks for the nice demo Pete!
Love it Pete! Particularly since Alex Lifeson's the reason why I pick up the guitar at all! Thank you!
Great review and song as always Pete. Huge Alex fan can’t wait to get this. That Suhr guitar collection of yours is badass. 🤘
Nice basplaying too❤
Absolutely brilliant playing and composition, Pete!! You totally have the Alex vibe!
Thanks! He was a big influence

nice demo & playing , seen Rush around 4 times back in the day .70s early 80s.
Killer tune and demo Pete. Thank you! Stoked to grab these.
Thank you!
Great demo - nice way to pay homage to the various eras of Alex's playing. \m/~~\m/

Please expand your demo track, title it "Rushed", and put it on your next album. Love your channel!

Pete..As many have commented on a regular basis demo tunes are great. However I have to say the audio quality is just as good even on my phone 😊

Pete… Great playing and you nailed the Lerxst vibe alive & well.
I have a 6100LM and 6101LM, I love them, my favourite amps.
Alex is in my top4 to5 favorite guitarist ever all equally my favorites!
Great tone ! Pete you get better every time I hear you .
Thanks!
Pete, since you brought up modulation and delay...are you ever going to do a Boss DM-101 demo? I thought for sure you would be first in line.

Yeah, the 6100 was Ty's Train tone.
I thought he used the GK ML-250. Surprisingly they didn't include that one.
He did around 85/87 I think! And it is super cool, but I think they hit some of the major food groups here
Love it. I'm feeling that
