If you look into historical accounts you will find quite a lot of dirty fighting from samurai, especially after Tokugawa became Shogun. Miyamoto Musashi's duels showcase this quite a lot, as he found himself being ambushed by rival samurai (who greatly outnumbered him no less) from a school he had defeated several members of in a duel (One of the few instances where he actually used his wakizashi in combat).
Indeed. Many samurai were nothing but licensed thugs with swords, disregarding the so called code of honor modern culture portrays them as adhering so strongly too.
@Toudou Yeah don't let media fool you lol--- Because Samurai were not exactly the brave, honorable, virtuous warriors that pop-culture and literature romanticizes them to be, granted there were some, but a lot of them were willing to use dirty tactics if it means it'll give them the win as seen Japanese history of warfare such as the Sengoku Period... Plus most Samurai in the 16th century like Hattori Hanzo were both Shinobi (Ninja) and Samurai, so it isn't out of the ordinary for Silver Samurai to also use stealth.
"Honor" for a samurai was loyalty and service to his daimyo. Things like fighting dirty were actually good. It's not "SHAMEFUR DISPRAY DISHONOR", it's being smart. I read somewhere that if a samurai attacked another from behind, the guy who got attacked from behind was the "dishonored" one for letting someone stab him in the back in the first place. The guy doing the actual literal backstabbing was respected for making the other guy look like a chump. Also as other commenters said, ninjas were also of the samurai class. In Ryu Hayabusa vs. Strider Hiryu, Death Battle calls ninjas "sneaky peasants who rebelled against samurai oppressors" which, as much as I love Death Battle, is a massive load of bullshit. Ninjas were more or less a subset of samurai, not a different category altogether.
Shredder peicing the armor had nothing to do with the tachyons. IT was the fact he has ninja-precision and can slash through the exposed spots in Silver Samurai's armor, which was shown in the prefight rundown
It actually wasn't just the Meatball he cut, there were two stick thingy's beside him as well, so that was one vertical cut followed by one or two horizontal cuts. _that_ is a bit more impressive.
If you want a genuinely terrifying and competent depiction of the Shredder, I cannot recommend the 2012 animated series enough. Most of the feats Wiz and Boomstick pulled from for this fight (the scene with the mob boss, his fight with Leatherhead, him throwing the tanker) originate from that show.
30:22 That's the problem, you haven't seen the original Mirage Comics, IDW Comics Reboot, 2003 Cartoon Version, or the newer TMNT Cartoon by Nickelodeon. He is a genuine and very frightening threat in those.
Ok, I looked it up. The next fight will be Smokey the Bear Vs McGruff the Crime Dog, apparently they've been planning this battle for over 3 years, and plan to make this the first Hand Drawn Animated Battle in the series history.
Oh my god have they been building this up. Several times on the DBC Podcast they have been building up Smokey the Bear vs Scruff McGruff the Crime Dog, and I'm laughing that they are finally going to do it.
Just so you know, the original comics are not always the best source for a comic book character. Case in point: Shredder died in the very first issue. I am not even joking. The main antagonist of every TMNT mythos was killed in the first issue of the original comics.
Hello again you beautiful son of a gun. It's been a while but I'll try to make as much sense as I can. First of all, the crew stated during Death Battle Cast that they were specifically looking at human Shredder vs human Silver Samurai. There are like half a dozen different versions of the Shredder (demon, alien in robot suit, transformer and even a computer virus) so using other versions of him would have been an overkill. (That also meant no mech suit for SS.) Second, the next battle (Smokey the Bear vs McGruff the Crime Dog) was a battle that an audience got to decide a long time ago (the other fight they decided was Kirby vs Ditto but that was changed to Kirby vs Majin Buu by the cast.) Yeah, it's pretty much a joke battle but I'm still hoping it'll turn out to be good. Plus it's supposedly going to be in hand-drawn animation! Third, there are quite a few nitpicks in this DB but the community has been surprisingly docile for a change. (Either that or literally nobody cares that SS lost.) Technically Silver Samurai is not a samurai but a ronin (a samurai gone rogue and/or without a master) but Silver Samurai does sound better than Silver Ronin. Some have also complained about the attack vs defense speed feat. Yes, SS was able to sheathe his sword and cut the bullet in half (in combat he'd be wielding the sword anyway so he could react much faster than that) but Shredder also sliced two candles in half along with the meatball using only one hand. Realistically he would have needed two or three slashes for that but again, this is human logic vs cartoon logic. Also, I'm pretty sure that SS's teleportation wouldn't be too useful since Shredder is able to sense people around him. Even without that he'd probably be able to predict SS's attacks and react accordingly. Overall I'm just happy that there hasn't been a massive outrage by the community so far. I'm just waiting for the battle after this one and hoping that it won't be another poorly handled rage-inducing debate. Especially if that battle would happen be Mario vs Sonic 2... because DB's last rematch went pretty well for them, right? PS. Shredder actually was called "cheese grater" during his early designs. He was named Shredder as an homage to that name. I'll catch you in the next reaction video. Cheers!
From what I gather, Shredder at first wasn't suppose to be a main villain, just that his legacy outlived him and the Turtles fought his clan and eventually mutated clones of him but Shredder himself was dead. Then I guess the company who made the first cartoon liked him and made him a villain and at first he was intimidating till it got goofy but the cartoon did not follow the comics at all so a lot was different but since Shredder was around longer he became a popular villain so later iterations like my favorite 03 version became MUCH more threatening and now he's typically shown as an intimidating monster. In 03 he's an insane alien criminal, in the newer cartoon and various others he's the leader of the Foot Clan and a serious threat to the turtles, in the recent comics he's immortal. He's not a joke villain anymore, at least not the modern versions.
YOUR FACE WAS ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS AT THE REVEAL OF THE NEXT BATTLE!!! Which will be Scruff McGruff vs Smokey the Bear And they'll be sharing the same voice actor. And it will also be their first Flash animated battle (so 2D animations that isn't sprites).
Ris, you look like someone I'd wanna hang with. I've been a fan of your Death Battle Let's Watches for a couple years now, and you just seem cool and down-to-earth.
I would like to see a Halloween monster themed one. Spinal from Killer Instinct v.s. Brook from One Piece or Sabrewulf from Killer Instinct v.s. Jon Talbain from Dark Stalkers
When Shredder uses the mutagen it mutates him with his armor that’s why his armor changes in tmnt many living organisms have mutated with non-organic material a cat and ice cream a cockroach and drone it and of course shredder a man and a pile of garbage and of course shredder and his armor
To explain that next time, the first part was showing off Voice Actors and their previous roles. Apparently, the'll both be playing the characters in the next battle.
josh graham TeamFourStar thinks so too. That's why they gave Cooler the line "Tonight I dine on monkey soup" in their abridging of the first Cooler movie.
The mutants in the series actually have powers. Even the turtles and some Innovations they learn ninjutsu aka ninja Magic the anime kind. Trust me if you look hard enough you'll find out to Shred a super dangerous.
it is Smokey the Bear vs Scruff McGruff. The voice DBZ characters and stuff, were the characters that the Two Voice Actors worked on, who are now going to play Smokey and McGruff.
For contrast to make the reveal funnier. Like "All these renegade badasses... are also these two poster boys for proper safety and respecting others! LOL!"
Next time is Smokey the Bear vs MacGruff the crime dog. They were showing the DBZ characters because the voice actors in the fight have voiced those characters in the show.
Check out the 2012 Nickelodeon TMNT series. The best so far in my opinion, and the Shredder that performed the two biggest feats that made up this decision.
The characters are what the voice actors portrayed and Smokey VS McGruff is a fight that SscrewAttack said that they'll do, it's going to be flash animated as well, as in hand drawn flash
The next time is smokey the bear vs mcgruff the crime dog ("Only you can prevent forest fires" vs "Take a bite out of crime") both of them being voice by Chris sagat (voice actor of vegeta) and Chris rager (voice actor of Hercule satan) for this battle, also it's been confirmed that this battle will be done in flash animation
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I loved your reaction of the next times battle! Yeah don't worry you definitely weren't the only one there stumped on that one. I still am.
Nice Reaction! and yes the next fight is Smokey the Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog. The DBZ characters were there because the next fights have voice actors and the two VA's voiced Dragon Ball characters in DBZ Abridged and stuff
Ris Grestar, I understand you very well in this video. I had a really hard time deciding who to choose for this fight too. I also took awhile to choose as I was stuck going back and forth between them. In the end I also picked Silver Samurai. Guess we all gotta learn from our mistakes every now and then, huh?
Also Ris, the collection of characters during the Next Time was showing off the Big Time voice actors they have portraying Smokey and McGruff. All their previous voices in stuff like dragonball and one piece.
for the anime characters, i think it's the voice actors that are starring in the next death battle (maybe, dont take my word for it its just speculation.)
Yes, apparently they are doing Smokey the Bear versus McGruff the Crime Dog, and I heard that it will be a hand drawn animation. Also,, Christopher Sabat plays Vegeta and Christopher Rager plays Mr. Satan from the main Dragon Ball universe
I don't think there was anything wrong with your logic, Ris. I went with Silver Samurai too, and I still don't agree with the verdict. This was just one of those times where I thought things got messed up toward the end and the research was wrong. But so far, this is the only Death Battle of this season where I think that. Also, yeah, next time is probably just a joke fight more or less.
For the record, in the comics, Shredder died in the first issue; a clone turned up later, along with later copycats. He was just so iconic the TV series kept him around.
I do think that that one time Vash the Stampede dodged a bullet from just outside point-blank range (from episode 2 of Trigun) was more due to prediction than reaction.
There are 14 species of crocodile of varying sizes. The largest species, the saltwater crocodile, can weigh up to 4400 pounds but usually weighs from 2202 pounds to 2643 pounds, whereas the smallest, the dwarf crocodile, weighs from 40 to 70 pounds. In all species, males are larger than females.
The Tachyon Blade isn't the sword itself its an ability that he can make any blade able to cut through anything. The sword is a normal sword. But with that much force behind it, even a non prime piercing weapon like a Katana would pierce armor easily. Sorry if you found this out or already been told this
Personally, I'm excited for Smokey vs. McGruff. They've teased this episode for a long time and now, they're finally doing it. Also, this means that, hopefully, they'll soon be doing another long-awaited episode that they've teased for a while: Galactus vs. Unicron!
"I dont think of either of them of being good at being bad" Oho ho...I love when people think they know a character and then get blown out by their actions
the bullet feat is a reaction one can react to the gunfire and when you see a shooting range and people are shooting you can see the bullets flying but with the shredder meatball cutting feat no one saw him coming to cut the meatball. The way the battle flowed made sense, also it's more of a fast paced battle than a slugfest
Calling it now, McGruff wins, hands down... although I'm just basing that on his voice actor, but I still think he's got !he upper hand. Anyways great video as usual Ris, looking forward to more. Keep being awesome. :)
I predicted Shredder for 2 reasons 1. They estimated his feats on the LOWER end of the spectrum (f.e. Taking Leatherheads toy-weight, despite arguing against it, not remeasuring Leatherheads bite strength, just saying "stronger than this"), so if anything, they were setting him up as being at least a certain strength - and therefore most likely the stronger of the two. And when they later used a lot of time to name any of the arts the Silver Samurai mastered (while they just listed all for the Shredder and said, they are complete), they were padding Silvy out more for comparably less. This clinched the deal for me.
I still think, they should have done the renamon battle differently. Just to be clear: I agree, that Lucario would beat renamon, but its kinda unfair, that they didnt let renamon use kyubimon, when Lucario himself is an evolved form, THAT CAN ONLY BE ACHIEVED WITH A HUMAN PARTNER. They put an adult pokemon against a child-level digimon, cause people were mad about the greymon-charizard fight.
proclarushtaonasat A Pokémon doesn't need a trained to evolve. It evolves when it is ready. As seen in the one episode where there is a random-ass Venasaur in the forest.
Riolu does need a trainer to evolve, since its evolution is triggered through friendship. And Digimon can evolve without a partner, it just takes longer, as shown with Gatomon.
Well I'm pretty sure mutagen messes with the cells and atoms of objects and creatures. In some cases mutagen will even fuse two completely different things. Take Karai for example, a character who became a weird snake hydra thing, but at the same time their armour fused together creating a creature with armour like scales. The shredder from the new series mutated with metal spikes and his helmet sticking out of his skin.
So I just noticed something did shredder and his ninja drill from New York to Japan and if they did then did they get in their pods upside down an order to come out upright
Remember ris experience fighting Zombies only helps when you are fighting zombies. When thinking of the universes and the experience remember to relate it to the fight in question, it wouldnt matter if some one has experience fighting iron man if the person they are fighting is nothing like iron man. Experience only means so much.
I was actually surprised by this outcome the first time I watched it. And yes, It's Smokey the Bear Vs. McGruff the Crime Dog. The actors are Chris Sagat who did a few DBZ characters and Chris Rager of what was showing did Hercule Satan in DBZ as well. Since the show is a parody to portray entertainment. They have to have some joke filled episodes. To take time to make the next episode. Like a few examples after Mario Vs. Sonic, they did Justin Bieber and Rebecca Black, Raiden Vs. Wolverine after that was Hercule Satan Vs. Dan Hibiki. They just need an episode to joke around every once in a while.
BJGVideos I mean it was kind of like that, but it was still a cheesy fight, plus it was a battle of 2 losers, one that cheated his way to victory, while the other, just sucks in general.
Danny1029ImmortalGaming Well true. But it wasn't really a "joke battle" like Bieber vs Black was (side note, I always felt that was unfair. She's supposed to be a very nice girl, just one who has no business in the music industry).
BJGvideos Well who can blame her? She made possibly one of the most annoying songs of all time. It got so many dislikes she had to take down the video.
I figured it would be close but we were both wrong you are still wining by 1. And Shredder didn't use Tachyons they said neither armor covered completely to allow free movement; so both had the means of taking each other down which is why speed was important as to who could do it first. and there are so many versions of sheared you should see if you could find the TMNT 2003 it was easily the best version of TMNT.
Smokey Bear vs McGruff the Crime Dog. DBZ abridged? no those are the characters the VAs voiced in the actual DBZ dub like Chris Sabat, voice of Vegeta is returning, (also there was Zoro and All Might as well) and Chris Rager, voice of Hercule Satan comes as well.
Never underestimate the power of the tmnt verse. It's actually quite powerful. There was a comic(albeit non canon) Where shredder went toe to toe with batman.
I find it ironic that Silver Samurai is a samurai who follows Bushido code but tends to attack from behind.

The Shredder good point.
@Toudou

Man, the foot, the hand. What's next, the kidney? The elbow? The knee?
The Groin.
The Foot is based on The Hand.
chaoticjusticezero That's because the whole TMNT franchise started as, essentially, a parody of Frank Miller's run on Daredevil.
I know that. I just didn't see a reason to mention it.
The arm.
30:22 That's the problem, you haven't seen the original Mirage Comics, IDW Comics Reboot, 2003 Cartoon Version, or the newer TMNT Cartoon by Nickelodeon. He is a genuine and very frightening threat in those.
Brother Malachai there are no reboots in tmnt only different universe
Especially the super shredder in the new version *shudders*
when you have to fight utrom shredder, tengu shredder, and cyber shredder all at once
Current objective: *SURVIVE*
Ok, I looked it up. The next fight will be Smokey the Bear Vs McGruff the Crime Dog, apparently they've been planning this battle for over 3 years, and plan to make this the first Hand Drawn Animated Battle in the series history.
WHAT!!?? THAT SOUNDS AWESOME!!
The next time was promoting the voice actors. All those characters were people the va's played.
Oh my god have they been building this up. Several times on the DBC Podcast they have been building up Smokey the Bear vs Scruff McGruff the Crime Dog, and I'm laughing that they are finally going to do it.
SMOKEY THE BEAR VS MCGRUFF
THE CRIME DOG
It's actually called Smokey Bear not Smokey the Bear
But, Only you can prevent wildfires!!!
Nepixsss who are they?
Smokey's gonna put out McGruff's fire before it even gets started!
#BadassDeathBattlePhrases

MysteriousTomJenkins yeah that's about right
28:25 RisGrestar.exe has stopped working.
Ris, I think you'd like the 2003 shredder. also, hey now Wiz and Boomstick, the 90's weren't always this nuts
YOUR FACE WAS ABSOLUTELY PRICELESS AT THE REVEAL OF THE NEXT BATTLE!!!
Which will be Scruff McGruff vs Smokey the Bear
And they'll be sharing the same voice actor.
And it will also be their first Flash animated battle (so 2D animations that isn't sprites).
I believe the next time is Smokey the Bear vs. McGruff the Crime Dog, and that Chris Sabat and Chris Rager will be the two people doing the voices.
Ris, you look like someone I'd wanna hang with. I've been a fan of your Death Battle Let's Watches for a couple years now, and you just seem cool and down-to-earth.
Thank you! :D
Oh Ris! You're face was priceless!!!
I want them to do a horror based match up for October.
DeltaPrime350 Darkrai vs Freddy Krueger?
I would like to see a Halloween monster themed one.
Spinal from Killer Instinct v.s. Brook from One Piece
or
Sabrewulf from Killer Instinct v.s. Jon Talbain from Dark Stalkers
Cool
I think Talbain would emerge with victory, due to having kung fu and freaking nunchucks on top of tooth and claw.

Am I the only one who thinks super shredder looks like coolers fifth form from Dbz?
josh graham TeamFourStar thinks so too. That's why they gave Cooler the line "Tonight I dine on monkey soup" in their abridging of the first Cooler movie.
+Platonix oh they did lol😄😄
Smokey the Bear vs McGruff the Crime Dog. They were showing the characters that the voice actors for the next fighters.
The next fight is Smokey VS McGruff. and the images before hand were showing the voice actors. They got anime voice actors for the fight.
The mutants in the series actually have powers. Even the turtles and some Innovations they learn ninjutsu aka ninja Magic the anime kind. Trust me if you look hard enough you'll find out to Shred a super dangerous.
it is Smokey the Bear vs Scruff McGruff.

The battle of two psa mascots
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA I loved your reaction of the next times battle! Yeah don't worry you definitely weren't the only one there stumped on that one. I still am.
Nice Reaction! and yes the next fight is Smokey the Bear and McGruff the Crime Dog. The DBZ characters were there because the next fights have voice actors and the two VA's voiced Dragon Ball characters in DBZ Abridged and stuff
+ Ris Grestar, Shredder is actually a ninja.
Personally I've always really liked the fight scene's in the first 1990 TMNT movie.
No offense but Shredder looks a lot like M. Bison
The next battle is Smokey VS McGruff (two commercial mascots from the '90s) featuring the voices of Christopher Sabat and Chris Rager.
What is that thumbnail, my man?
What you just saw was the two voice actors from those anime to voice Smokey the Bear and McGruff the crime dog.
Smokey and McGruff are going to be voiced by those Voice actors, so they were showing of their resumes basically.
Roy Mustang vs Fire Lord Ozai PLEASE! How have I never seem anyone suggest this before?!
dude did you even see the fight in the shop on fire that was awesome
Also Ris, the collection of characters during the Next Time was showing off the Big Time voice actors they have portraying Smokey and McGruff. All their previous voices in stuff like dragonball and one piece.
for the anime characters, i think it's the voice actors that are starring in the next death battle (maybe, dont take my word for it its just speculation.)
Yes, apparently they are doing Smokey the Bear versus McGruff the Crime Dog, and I heard that it will be a hand drawn animation. Also,, Christopher Sabat plays Vegeta and Christopher Rager plays Mr. Satan from the main Dragon Ball universe
to answer the question about Shredder's armor changing, the "ooze" transformed a man into a sentient humanoid garbage man
I don't think there was anything wrong with your logic, Ris. I went with Silver Samurai too, and I still don't agree with the verdict. This was just one of those times where I thought things got messed up toward the end and the research was wrong. But so far, this is the only Death Battle of this season where I think that. In the comics shredder fought the batman btw
Yes, and he is completed loses against The Batman.
For the record, in the comics, Shredder died in the first issue; a clone turned up later, along with later copycats. He was just so iconic the TV series kept him around.
I do think that that one time Vash the Stampede dodged a bullet from just outside point-blank range (from episode 2 of Trigun) was more due to prediction than reaction.
they were showing the characters voiced by Chris Sabbat and Chris Rager. who will be voicing Smokey the bear vs Mcgruff the crime dog
28:24 your face killed me i laughed so loud at my work 😂
I was just as confused by Smokey vs McGruff as you are.
The "Dragon Ball Z Characters" thing was them saying what voice actors are going in the deathbattle.
The Characters At The End Represent The 2 Voice Actors Who Did Those Roles
There are 14 species of crocodile of varying sizes. The largest species, the saltwater crocodile, can weigh up to 4400 pounds but usually weighs from 2202 pounds to 2643 pounds, whereas the smallest, the dwarf crocodile, weighs from 40 to 70 pounds. In all species, males are larger than females.

No no, that's what I meant. I was saying at the end that I had misheard them and thought they meant x when the reality was y.
Ahh well I must of misheard or something lol haha. Anyway have a good day
The "next time" showed characters that Chris Sabot and Chris Rager voiced.
The next time on death battle smokey the bear vs mcgruff the crime dog
yep that's right its Smokey the Bear VS Mcgruff the Crime Dog
Personally, I'm excited for Smokey vs. McGruff. They've teased this episode for a long time and now, they're finally doing it. Also, this means that, hopefully, they'll soon be doing another long-awaited episode that they've teased for a while: Galactus vs. Unicron!
shredder is a master martial artist, cunning stratigist and somehow he always drops the ball
I hope they'll do Red Hood VS Winter Soldier for DEATH BATTLE too
They did :D its an amazing fight as well!
It's basically Firefighter Bear vs Police Dog

No, Forest Ranger Bear vs Police Dog
do you think it'll be bear vs dog or axe vs gun....
The Dragon Ball Z carchters you saw were the carachters that those voice actors played in past death battles.
"I dont think of either of them of being good at being bad" Oho ho...I love when people think they know a character and then get blown out by their actions
It was showing the characters the voice actors have done lol
the bullet feat is a reaction one can react to the gunfire and when you see a shooting range and people are shooting you can see the bullets flying but with the shredder meatball cutting feat no one saw him coming to cut the meatball.
I predicted Shredder for 2 reasons
Also the ending it said Starring Chris Rager and Chris Sabat who I'm assuming are voice actors in the next one?
Ethan Smith your putting too much thought into this.
Man...you gotta work on that win streak.
Those Dragonball characters shown are just examples of the two voice actors' previous works.
I miss these reactions
The next one is Scruff mcgruff the crime dog vs Smokey the bear and chris sabat and Chris Ranger will be the voice actors for them.
The other character they showed was all muggy from boku no hero academia
Glad that your a good sport about these.
Love your videos
Also, silver samurai is dead, he was killed by Satan in the "death of wolverine" continuity which led to the "old man Logan" story
Remember ris experience fighting Zombies only helps when you are fighting zombies. When thinking of the universes and the experience remember to relate it to the fight in question, it wouldnt matter if some one has experience fighting iron man if the person they are fighting is nothing like iron man. Experience only means so much.
Silver Samurai would of used is "super sword" at a better time, like when blocking shredders attacks so that he could cut through shredders sword.
Confused... you and me both. Have no idea who the next time is.
moonlightblade11 They came out and said it. It's Smokey the Bear vs McGruff the Crime Dog.
BJGvideos that's true but i was refering to who they were. I'm very ignorant when it comes to voice actors and who they voice.
Danny1029ImmortalGaming Well, Mr Satan vs Dan was a more "serious" battle between joke characters rather than a full on joke battle.
Danny1029ImmortalGaming Well yeah. But like I said, she's supposedly a very nice person. Just she has absolutely no business being a musician.
So the Shredder's helmet has a name that translates to "The Black Beetle"? Cool.
Please post your competitive comments below like so:
Smokey's gonna put out McGruff's fire before it even gets started!
can you react to dragon ball z abridged by teamfourstar
The joke is two major and well beloved voice actors of badass warrior characters from anime are voicing two psa animal people.
For the record the turtles have had an insane amount of power ups just watch the animated series from the early 2000s
Smokey the Bear and Officer McGruff were big PSA stars back in the 1970s. A bit before your time, I fear.
The reaction after the next time though.
Have u restarted rvb yet
Never underestimate the power of the tmnt verse. It's actually quite powerful. There was a comic(albeit non canon) Where shredder went toe to toe with batman.
